This is my first time ever catching stone crabs. At first we had no luck with the stone crab traps but this episode ends with a happy ending. And what's a happy ending on the South Florida Fishing Channel? A catch and cook of course! A stone crab catch and cook to be specific is what's happening today in South Florida!
I use iguana for stone crab bait. Yes this is a crazy bait, but I heard that iguana for bait works! So i'll give it a try, this is my first time ever anyways so let's have some fun while setting stone crab pots.
This is how to catch stone crabs. I am still a noobie since this is my first time I ever go catching stone crabs so let's see if we can get a catch and cook going here!
I tell you what, this will not be my first time cooking crabs. But this will be the first stone crab claws I cook that I caught myself. So it's my first ever stone crab catch and cook. How to catch stone crabs with iguana haha
Do you think iguana is a crazy bait to use as stone crab bait? Remember my iguana catch n cook hah?! In a lot of how to catch stone crabs I see them using pigs feet. Maybe i'll pigs feet as stone crab bait next time, when i run out of iguana for bait.
I hope you enjoyed this first time ever catching stone crabs using iguana which I think is a crazy bait! And ending with the best ever stone crab catch and cook episode on the South Florida Fishing Channel where we are fishing out of Key Largo, Florida. Please leave a like and comment to show your support. Thank you!

Hello Heiko, the easiest way to catch plenty of stone crabs and lobsters is by hand. Of course, it is a dying art. I encountered a stone crab in a hole who's claw was bigger than my own hand. I gave up quickly as I did not want to drown. But that is rare nowadays. Another thing is to buy yourself a good set of binoculars, plenty of poachers on the water. I have been diving the southern Keys for over 50 years. Good luck!

So, what were you popping those iguanas with? Pellet gun? It sounded like it had some force behind it, and you could see the projectile going through and through, but unless it was a 22, it wasn't a very big projectile.

That first tiny stone crab in your trap the way you talked about it was hilarious.I do not know how many each household can have but twenty seems to be the amount you need to catch a decent haul. After you cook them and cool them down with cold water move them to a ice water bath for about five minutes it makes the meat come out better.Stone crab claws are better chilled then dip in melted butter. Also check out a Stone crab eating contest on the west coast around Tampa or Clearwater there is one at some festival that happens each year.I missed it last year.It sounds like you like them as much as I do.

Excellent kill shots on those iguana. I watched video on an iguana exterminator. He removed 150 iguana in one day from this lady'a backyard and it wasn't that big of a property. I didn't know how destructive they were until then. She had a lot of repairs to make on her home. The stone crab looked great! Glad you had fun with it. Never had it before and i would likely eat the hell out of them! Great vid, thanks.

2 Things, Are you sure that your traps are laying on the bottom with the opening up, with the rope tied on the side, may be better to attach to somewhere on lid so you can feel them "sit" on the bottom. 2nd, use a butter knife's handle to smack the crab's shell, the blade is not sharp, and the round shape of handle is perfect for cracking shellfish easily. Oh, and what did you shoot the iguana's with...
