Japanese have been shredding for hundreds of years. Shamisen is classically tuned into a D-G-D power chord (with perfect fifth at the top instead of at the bottom, gives it that Japanese sounding feel.)

“Wagakki” essentially means “traditional instruments”. The band was founded by the singer, SUZUHANA Yuko. The “lute” thing is a Shamisen. The “harp” thing is a Koto. Yes, you’ve heard them a million times, in movie soundtracks, when they want to convey a Japanese atmosphere. What can I say? America may be the land of innovation in tech, but in music we've lost our mojo. All the action has moved to Europe and Japan. Here's my pick for your next one: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h5idmLqcvNfHXX0.html

Yuko Suzuhana (vocal) is a professor of Shigin (traditional Japanese recitation of ancient poem) which incorporates chants, singing and reciting. She even won grand prize in a contest. She is also a piano player since the age of 3 - graduate of Tokyo College of Music in piano. She probably also learned Laido (Japanese sword drawing); she performs sword dance during some of their sets. Yeah, she can sing. The band is a collection of stellar musicians.

Suzuhana Yuko, the singer of the Wagakki Band, is a certified teacher for Shigin and learned Kenshibu ( 'Sword and Poetry Dance') This is a category of Japanese interpretive dances performed to traditional music with poetry. Kenbu refers to dances performed with the help of a sword and Shibu to dances with one or more hand fans called Sensu / Ogi (folding fans).

Do you mean Iaido? There is no "La" in Japanese. o:

@@byakurenhoujuu I think he already means Iaidō 居 合 道. The big i looks like an L. But I'd rather say the Yuko here Kenshibu ( 'Sword and Poetry Dance') dances. Good choice, man. The Wagakki Band are quite unique and have a hell of a sound - that mix of traditional and Rock/Metal works really well. Getting into Babymetal led me to discover bands like Band-Maid, Wagakki and Ningen Isu - Japan really is making music for the 21st century!

Just an amazing band, they have toured in the US and there are some great interviews with them in the US. Okay the transitional instruments: Shamsien played by Beni, the stringed instrument Shakuhachi played by Daisuke, 4 hole flute 3 on top 1 on bottom Taiko played by Kurona, drums Koto played by Kiyoshi, large stringed instrument

Their name translates to "Traditional Japanese Instruments Band." They started out doing Vocaloid covers, from video games. Then they started writing their own stuff. Suzuhana Yuuko, the lead singer, is a master of traditional Enka singing; she's actually a certified instructor of the art. Their songs have been chosen repeatedly over the years to be the opening and closing songs of anime shows. WagakkiBand was originally going to be the showcase for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics before the Coov shut everything down. :( Two great, more well-known songs by WagakkiBand that really showcase their skills and how huge they are: Hoshizukiyo live: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gtR2atOQzcyUeZs.html Senbonzakura live (one of the Vocaloid songs): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qdmodq15va3Go2w.html They also did a Bring Me To Life collab with Amy Lee of Evanescence, live version: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hsucmappzdSRZ5c.html And try Synchronicity for a jazzier sound (also live, of course): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbqHfrFn1Jnce3k.html Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

you nailed the pronunciation perfectly on first try. vocalist yuko suzuhana is fantastic and very cute. she was elected miss nico nama in 2011 some kind of talent contest. and the girl playing the tsugaru shamisen [the weird looking thing that resembles a guitar or banjo] beni ninagawa is another great musician and also a cutie. as you can tell i really go for the girls in these japanese bands! unfortunately yuko does not sing as much till the last half in this song so i would suggest the song senbonzakura to see her as she is really the frontwoman of the group

Hey, I just found your channel and binged some videos and I have a couple of recommendations for you. I'll give a bit of info on each. Firstly, I noticed that you did a lot of Epica videos so this first one is directly related to that. Mark Jansen, the mastermind/guitarist/growler of Epica has another project called MaYaN which has some similarities but is a much heavier band. The first album described itself as "Symphonic Death Metal Opera." Mark is a pure frontman in the band rather than playing guitar. I'm going to actually recommend the first song off of their first album because it still remains my favorite to this day and I think you'd like it (that's not to say that they don't have plenty of other great songs). Check out "Symphony of Aggression." You're probably best going for a studio version because I don't think there are any official live versions and it's better than a crappy cell phone recording or something. For follow-up tracks, check out "The Savage Massacre - In the Eyes of Law: Pizzo," "Course of Life," and "Paladins of Deceit." Secondly, there is a bit of a supergroup called Alkaloid. It has members of Obscura, Necrophagist, Dark Fortress, God Dethroned, Aborted, Blotted Science... This one is really hard for me to pick a single song but I'm going to also go with the first song off of their first album since this would be your first impression if you just checked out the album without knowing anything about them. It's also a really good song. Check out "Carbon Phrases." This is another one where you'll want to check out the studio version because they have very little live footage. If you want a good follow-up, just go into the next song on that album, "From a Hadron Machinist," and a song from their second album, "As Decreed by Laws Unwritten." And if you still like what you hear go for their big epic, "Rise of the Cephalopods." Hope you check these out because I think they'd really be up your alley.

Hey Aaron, thanks for being active on the channel! I have listened to Alkaloid quite a bit. I really liked their first album, haven't gotten into Liquid Anatomy much. As for MaYaN, I have listened to them some but it was a few years ago and well before I knew anything about Epica or Mark. I plan to bring them to the channel soon. Thanks for the suggestions. KEEP IT HEAVY!

a couple of thoughts about your video. now i know I'm not the best but i hope it helps the split screen in 720p. you look very blurry. i hope you ripped the video so you could add it in post. if you are adding it in post you should try and do it as an and in floating video instead of a split screen. you being the floating video or the reactionary video as the floating. even try using OBS it is free. i think that could really help with capture and broadcast style video creation. i did enjoy yourvideo. you have a great set. way better than what i use hope this helps
