Audioslave named this song after the great Apache Chief Cochise, who was supposedly the only American Indian Chief in the 19th Century who refused and never did surrender or stop fighting US Army before he died. This song is a great tribute to him.

You need to see the video with this, it is perfect. This song was Audioslave saying “hello” to the world. It is a perfect debut song and a phenomenal album. Tom Morello on guitar is absolutely sublime. He and Chris Cornell were the perfect point-counterpoint to each other. And then the bottom end just kept that groove going.

This was the first single from their first album. This song takes aim at someone who seems to be wasting his life away, warning him that he needs to save himself. Chris Cornell did have someone specific in mind when he wrote it. He said the song is, "Me yelling at me, looking in the mirror."

This song is on my top 5 Audioslave tracks. Cornell's vocals are stellar and the groove is amazing! Great pick. Great reaction. Have y'all tried out The Struts yet? They are a great little Brit band. Been around for a while now. Toured with Rolling Stones and The Foo Fighters. I suggest giving " Freak Like You" or "Kiss This. They have 3 discs out, give them a try and pick YOUR favorite.

Now you know why this is my favourite Audioslave song. That intro and build up alone had me weak, and that insane long and high gritty scream towards the end? 4:08 Uuuuuuuhweeeee! Chris and Chester were male vocal diamonds, just gut wrenching that both had it so bad, that they both left us. So what happened was that Audioslave came together after both members of Rage Against The Machine and Chris from Soundgarden wanted to do something band related again. Soundgarden and RATM hadnt been active in a long time,so it was a perfect opportunity for a new super group to form. They did take a break at one point BUT they reunited to perform at Prophets of Rage's Anti-Inaugural Ball, which took place on January 20, 2017. And like it will explain to you publicly: Cornell's death later that year precluded any chance of further reunions. Just really sad.... Audioslave had great chemistry so if Chris had gotten enough help,im sure we would hear alot more Audioslave content. A tiny comfort is that Rage Against The Machine has found together after this, and has been touring quite abit. But yeah,Chris really vibed together with Tom,Tim and Brad. I know Audioslave brought most of Soundgardens and RATM`s supporters together behind the same band. Thats quite unique in the rock and metal world!

The impeccable Chris Cornell fronts this "supergroup," at least that's what we used to call bands like this. Velvet Revolver fronted by Scott Weiland would be another example of this kind of group. Great reaction as always guys. That was the amazing Tom Morello on guitar. And did you know that he modified effects pedals and in some cases I think even kind of designed his own effects pedals? The guy was so innovative. And of course rest in peace my brother chris. One of the best singers of our generation. I was fortunate enough to experience Soundgarden here in my hometown in a local small venue Maybe 750 people maximum capacity. A long time ago and it was a place moreover that I had played at a lot in various local bands and so I was so familiar with it. It was so spectacular I don't know that I even appreciated what I was seeing at the time compared to what would come. We just knew that they were popular on the alternative music scene and that they rocked really hard and I will say that for a small venue like that? It's one of the loudest concerts I've ever been at, laugh. I think Social Distortion would be pretty much up there as well and they played there as well at that time. But Asia when you were talking about his Rock voice and all that, you really really really owe it to yourself to check out some or all of his solo acoustic work after this. I think most of it was done leading up to before he died but there are a couple outliers earlier that are done in like a recording studio with a small audience like his cover of Billie Jean by Michael Jackson and maybe the Prince song that Sinead O'Connor made so famous nothing compares to you. But really, most of the stuff I am talking about not only includes those, plus this stupendous cover of John Lennon Imagine in front of this huge Arena mostly in the dark with people shining their flashlights and phones and he's up there with just an acoustic guitar in the spotlight killing it. It's the best cover of that I have ever heard in my life. But there are some once you get on to them on youtube, you'll see the cover thumbnail is looks like an orchestra kind of but it's him on a stage with his acoustic guitar. Some of them are Originals some are covers some are from audioslave. It's just his voice and a guitar and a fair amount of Reverb and it just kills. It's the only way to truly appreciate what a great singer and performer he was. To me it's just mind blowing. Rest in peace buddy. And BJ, when you were talking about the guitar dominating it, and like I said I'm a huge Tom Morello fan, but here's the deal as usual the bass guitar usually gets overlooked, laugh. In this song, the bass guitar line is pretty much solidly always in unison with the guitar riff. So what's your hearing that gives it so much punch is that super low end and body from the bass guitar line and then the edge to it and the more familiar rock guitar sound comes from Tom Morello but it's the two of them Blended together that provides this incredible linear moving punch. It's great. And let's not forget the drumming either. Great reaction guys. And I'm glad you covered the studio thing first. I read a few of the comments before I started watching and it seemed almost consistently to be telling you that you should watch the live version. And at this point I think that's good advice but I am so glad that you did the studio version first. As a musician, if you're not already super familiar with something? I think you should always listen to the studio cut first. Not only are you hearing it the way most of us heard it originally with audio only, with no visual to distract you, your brain can focus 100% on these amazing Creations that these artists and bands poured their heart and soul into. 100%, no multitasking. And then after you've heard it and if you like it, well then of course, watch a live performance and you can fill out the visual to it in your mind. But I'm saying, ignore all those people telling you that except for now you've listened to it well then you actually should go listen to the live, laugh. Anyway that's just how I feel personally. I'm a musician and I like when people pay a hundred percent concentration on the music and are not distracted by visual images until after they've already been exposed to the song and have felt it. .

Great reaction and commentary!!! The power of music is a beautiful thing. When Chris Cornell left Soundgarden and Zach De La Rocha, left Rage Against The Machine, this collaboration was seen with a lot of skepticism. I think part of the magic with a groove fest like this, is that apart from Chris, the members had played together for a very long time when they started Audioslave. That kind of indestructible groove is not something even the finest musicians can just pull out on day one, upon first meeting. You need to learn the finer points of how the others feel time, in order to come to a groovy consensus. And that takes, erm, time.
