She definitely immerses into her music. Fearless in her lyrics. There is a hidden lioness inside of what looks like a fragile person. She moves me.

I couldn't agree more. I am actually a little frightened of her. The piercing stories she presents are not ones I would be brave enough to lose myself in, as she does when she is on stage. This song is a fine example. But her voice! and her very essence makes the performance achingly visceral and beautiful, even with such a dark theme. The fact that she wrote this makes the entire experience overwhelming to me, and that feeling returns each time I hear this.

Thank you for the Reaction. I asked for it because I just love this song. Aurora wrote "Murder Song" after reading in the newspaper that a man had shot his wife, who had terminal cancer and was suffering greatly. Aurora was very concerned about that and she then wrote this song. I think she was 15 years old when she wrote MurderSong. My mother also had cancer for many years. In her last days of life, my mother called for a veterinarian. Here in Germany, animals may be euthanized if they are terminally ill. Euthanasia is not allowed for humans. This song by Aurora means so much to me. I hope someone would be willing to help me if I were ever in a similar situation as my mother.

Thank you for making the request. Such a beautiful song about such a hard topic. Voluntary euthanasia is legal in some places in Australia, with more still deciding. There!s hope that we will soon treat terminally ill humans as humanely as we do sick animals.

Hello Rosalie, the song touches almost everyone. Let me put it this way: you've only scratched the surface of AURORA. If you dive right in, you can lose yourself in their songs. This is probably the saddest love song I've ever heard. A man shoots his wife to end her suffering. Can love be bigger and more painful at the same time than in this story? AURORA manages to make this pain palpable with her voice and her movements. You have seen AURORA's eyes. She wasn't on stage. She was somewhere else. You saw how deeply she was thinking about these two people, that she sometimes shook herself uncontrollably. I believe that she is not conscious of her movements. She's so into the story in her head that she's doing the moves in the story. I heard that AURORA was horrified by these movements when she saw the recording of the performance. That means for me that she did it unconsciously. Her empathy must be beyond measure. She spreads all her feelings that she has in this moment in front of us and lets us look into her heart and soul. There is no other way I can explain that almost everyone who saw this performance was affected by this story. AURORA is more than a storyteller, more than a singer. AURORA is a true artist. This is from an interview with Aurora: "First of all, I have a really vivid imagination. You know that these things may be happening to someone right now. It's kind of a terrifying thought. I just had to get that thought out of my head - and that's why I wrote this song. But the two characters are actually just made up in my head. I've written many songs about them - maybe I'll make a book with them." And in another interview: It’s just fascinating that some people can have in them the desire to kill while some people cannot pick a flower without feeling bad. That's about this I wrote 'Murder Song'. How can a man kill someone he loves and it happens often in the world. But he doesn't really understand what he did, it's a very complicated story. Her, she didn't want to be in this world anymore, and she knew that this man would do anything for her. She asks him to kill her and he said: 'Ok, I love you, I would do anything for you.' After he killed her, he became sad because she didn't move anymore and he didn't understand where she went. He didn't understand why she left and he start crying. And it is sad, because for the rest of his life, he will not understand and he will be sad." ------------------------ The World Climate Summit is currently taking place. AURORA has the right song for it: - The Seed (Official Video - VEVO) - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbOTkrJ-mtWycWw.html - I call it AURORAS “Earth Song” - Exhale Inhale - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nrCTfLmW2JOaomg.html - This is "The Seed 2.0" I usually prefer her live performances. But in this case the VEVO video is more impressive. Many Thanks und liebe Grüße aus der Nordheide

Thank you, Rosalie, for fulfilling my request, and giving this amazing performance the respect it deserves. I appreciate the fact that you had to put in extra work on some audio difficulties too. 👍 This was the performance that took me from curious, becoming a fan, to hardcore Warrior and Weirdo. Her authenticity and commitment to the music and telling the story is just amazing. It never fails to blow me away! Of course, it doesn't hurt that her voice cuts through my soul like a hot knife through butter. (Ha! That's a good thing, right?) It's interesting that you noticed her coming back to reality at the end. It's even more noticeable at the end of Runaway, from the same concert. It's like she forgets where she is. It's interesting to watch her growth as an artist and a person over the years. She's way more "present" in her performances these days. She's still very emotional and committed to the music and story, but she's equally connected to her audience. She didn't really like performing early in her career (and she was pretty scared at that Nobel concert), but she loves it now, and it's awesome seeing how much fun she has now, because she deserves it!

Greetings from Scotland! Oh, when I saw this reaction I just had to watch because I know how this beautifully sad song gets right into your soul! Yes, Aurora can't ever be described as a "singer" because she is so much more that that! So much more! I rarely get through one of her deeply emotional songs without crying like a baby! She is one of the very few singers who just seems to push all my buttons ALL together! To me this has all the hallmarks of a mercy killing (Euthanasia?) and one of the most difficult decisions a loved one can ever make! Do you let your best friend/lover die slowly in pain from a horrible illness or do what must be done? (Just my own personal views of course!). An extremely difficult topic to discuss. Great reaction as always Rosalie! 👏👏🙏🙏

I know some hear these lyrics, and come away with the impression that 'he didn't mean to do no harm' is the killer lying to himself. But the way she sings it has always felt to me like she was describing a genuine desire to spare her some kind of awful pain and suffering, like from a terminal illness. She seems appreciative, even thankful. Regardless, Aurora does tackle serious subjects, and she doesn't shy away from uncomfortable implications. Even in the happy ones. 'Cure for Me' is just a joyous song to listen to, but it still deals with a very unfortunate problem in the world.

The song is sung by the victim all the time. This also means the countdown at the beginning. She counts down herself for her husband. These are all her thoughts, not those of him. He does not justify anything. He's just crying. She sings "I know, he knows, that he's killing me for mercy". Both know. The man does not want to kill her, but does so at her request. And for him to make it, she counts down. He redeems her from her suffering. He becomes a murderer for her. Euthanasie for a terminally ill wife. And if you pay attention to how the duet is sung, you hear Aurora singing "And here I go, oh oh oh", while the man just sings "Go". After the shot her spirit prepared to leave and he gives her his permission that it's okay to go, He will be okay again without her. Of course, this is an interpretation, but taking into account the things that are actually offered. For me, this is the only comprehensible interpretation. In others, there are too many logic gaps for me.
@rosalieelliottofficial

@@TheVirtualWatcher I'm not talking about logical gaps in Aurora's songs. So this has absolutely 0 effect on her in any way. And even if it did, it would have no effect on her. @@TomTomson81 Have I hit a nerve here? You seem to be putting your interpretation forward as the 'best' one because you see 'logical gaps' in others. But no interpretation is required, what matters is how the song emotionally affects the listener. The words of the story are triggers to elicit a response. The danger lies in people listening to and believing you.
@TomTomson81

@@TheVirtualWatcher Oh not at all. Why do you ask me if you hit a nerve when I put forward conclusive arguments. Because I called you a drama queen for your overdramatization? "a dangerous conclusion to reach" I don't push anything at all and don't undermine other interpretations. I wrote all the time "MY interpretation" and FOR ME other interpretations are holey. What others do or don't make of it is up to them. Are welcome to have other interpretations. For me, however, most of them are full of holes. As I said. There will certainly be other conclusive interpretations, but I haven't read them yet.

@notvochkin

Songs can be interpreted in many ways. For me, I interpreted this as a euthanasia event. He really did not mean her any harm and was saving her from something awful that neither of them could stop (painful, terminal disease?), and he was devastated afterwards. One of the reasons I hold this interpretation is that, although domestic abuse survivors do sometimes go back to their abuser again and again, this is the final act, one she saw coming (5 4 3 2 1) and she offered no resistance and was understanding of his actions. I'm not saying you are wrong, really great art can mean different things to different people, which is the beauty of it. Also, her performance of Runaway at this same concert is definitely worth a look even though you saw her official video.

Hell yeah another aurora reaction - i just had to watch it straight away :) I absolutely love watching you work through these profound and moving songs with so much insight, it's always such a pleasure I found your approach of the song incredibly interesting actually, because it wasn't quite Aurora's intent while writing it if I remember correctly - this song was born of her reading a story in the news about a man killing his wife who had terminal disease, to spare her a life of suffering. In her words, she wrote this song to get the tragedy of it out of her head. But your interpretation was so insightful and heartfelt, and made me see new aspects i hadn't quite thought of before - which is why I like the fact that you don't look it up too much beforehand :) A few reflections that I've had while listening to this : It's not just the perpetrator who justifies the murder as essential... The victim is trying to convince herself too, in my eyes. In the "original" meaning this makes a lot of sense, but i think it still holds a lot of truth in the case of domestic abuse And yet you can tell from her tone and expressions... She can't quite convince herself. She's not relieved at the end, but resigned... And almost, betrayed. Like she can't believe someone she loved would do this to her Anyways, a wonderful and thought provoking reaction to a profound song, this has been a pleasure ! I hope you'll keep making your way down the Aurora rabbit hole... You won't regret any of it, trust me :D

Those few seconds are the most powerful moments of the song in my eyes

Spot on lyrical analysis, including the connection you make with It Happened Quiet. I highly recommend Churchyard live at KXP…it kinda completes the set. It’s my favorite performance along with Runaway from the Noble Peace Prize concert. Really enjoy the insights you bring in every reaction that I’ve seen.

Nice reaction 😊 The song is not connected to “It Happened Quiet”. “Murder Song” is about mercy killing, it’s she who asks him to kill her. While in “It Happened Quiet” it is about domestic violence where the victim comes back to haunt the one that hurt her. Could you please react to: “The Seed” official video A cry for Mother Earth “Exhale Inhale” live at VEVO A beautiful song from her latest album

The remarkable thing was her ability to compose and perform this theme at such a young age ... to get the image she had in her head out. Maybe it was a news article or story about an incident. Possibly a terminally ill wife that the partner had mercy on her. Another wonderful reaction, Rosalie.
@Smaugyyy

Great reaction, Rosalie, thank you! Aurora has a lot of sad songs and had those deep thoughts already as a child. She is introverted yet empathic. Afraid of people yet not shy. Who could imagine what this child was pondering about alone in the parents attic or the Norwegian forest. Another song that deals with domestic violence (and revenge) is "Church Yard" (preferably the KEXP version). But I think it would be nice if you would react to "Nothing is Eternal", a small documental to discover how unique and different a person she is.

Another interpretation of this is that it was a mercy killing of one partner by the other due to an incurable disease and how both people were victims of an unbelievably tragic situation that left both of them, deceased and survivor, heartbroken and scarred and having to live with the consequences on their memory/conscious. If true, the survivor is left with a lifetime of pain knowing what hey had to do to end the others suffering. Regardless of the interpretation it boggles my mind how Aurora can tell these stories without assigning judgement or blame.

I recommend "Lucky" from the Nidarosdomen concert. (Her anti suicide song.) Also "Little Boy in the Grass". To put it bluntly because there is no other way to say it. Aurora lost a very close friend of hers in the terrorist attacks in Norway. That song is about the whole event. That is one of three people she has lost at her young age. One reason why her audience ranges from teen girls to old war vets. One of the reasons I didn't get her at first. Until all of that clicked. Now I can't imagine who I was before I new about Aurora.

The song "Murder Song" is about a woman who is held at gunpoint by her partner. She closes her eyes and expects to die, but instead he pulls the trigger and accidentally kills her. He is upset and cries, realizing he did it to spare her from the struggles of life. The song ends with her dying and the gun being gone.

I'm not sure you are interested, but here is an interview interspersed with music (which is unfortunately blocked). Anyway she talks about Murder song from about 3:00 to 5:30 minutes in the one hour video. Also a little about about the title after the song plays. Apparently Murder Song was too brutal for the BBC, so it was called 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for them and now she uses both with the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 in ( ). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qcyRipOHu-Csn3k.html

My interpretation is completely separate from it happened quite, in this song for me it’s about someone possibly in pain and the murderer not actually being a bad person they euthanising their lover to end the pain. Alternatively could be someone that’s about to be tortured or in grave danger so to spare them the horror the other person kills them swiftly. This would make the lyrics “I know that he knows” she is certain that he is certain he’s doing the right thing.

I find it interesting that this song on her album is the worst one on that album. She definitely made it better as she went along and found its fundamental core. My favorite of this song was done at Nidarosdomen. She is special live, and always better than the official cut or album, live, other than The Seed, which is best as a Vivo official video. My favorite of hers is Lucky, at Nidarosdomen.

I think Rosalie misinterpreted the song a bit, but everybody can understand it differently. My two choices are 1. Crime of passion - murderer kills the victim and then regrets his deeds or 2. Euthanasia - loved person is "murdered" to spare her the potential horror future. In both cases this song is about justifying the murderer from the point of victim's view. Strong story magically performed - as usual for Aurora.

Aurora was 19 at the time of this performance. Try finding another teenager who is able to write so brilliantly on sensitive issues and deliver performances that are so utterly compelling. More successful would be finding the proverbial needle in the haystack. Aurora is the total essence of the word unique. Once you watch the HAIK documentary/concert and check out some of her interviews, you will see that Aurora has a personality as amazing as her performing and writing talents.
