Avi left Pentatonix in 2017. His mother had been having cancer treatment and he was burning himself out with the ferocious touring schedule and his need to spend time with his family. What has become clearer since then is that musically he was pulling away from PTX. Since he left they have gone much further into the polished stadium vibe whereas Avi sings from his heart and his soul and prefers small intimate venues to connect to his audience. He has said recently that he only got to use 10% of his voice in PTX and although he still uses his deepest register, he only does so to serve the song. Almost all of his songs are originals and written by him (he does use co-writers). Although each song is different from the next (the Live at Sunset Sounds recording of 'When I'm a Fool' is a very different Avi to this one) but there is always a certain Avi feel to them - and of course that sublime voice. There is an Avi song for every emotion. Subscribed for more, please!

I’ve run out of things to say about this voice, the lyrics and this man. If you go back to when he started singing solo, his music has always been about healing. By healing himself, he has helped us to find healing. He’s a true treasure

Avi has one of the most beautiful voices of anyone singing today. Ive said that since I heard him sing his own songs before PTX. He sang 2 wonderful acoustic songs for Colorado Sound. During Covid, from his home, with his guitar. You will get lots of wonderful recommendations but since you love his voice I hope you listen to He Don't Love You Right from his recent album. My gosh it's stunning like this one.

Avi has a way of touching ones soul. Really hope you continue with Avi. One thing I love the most about Avi is that he is not in one box. You will see what I mean if you continue. Would recommend Change on the rise, Full moon and otherside. All very different but all are amazing.

Avi is classically/operatically trained and was offered a Basso Profundo position with the L.A. opera House but his heart was with A Capella and the next day, Pentatonix called him. He was the brainchild of A Capella youth Choir many years ago and along with the greats Ben Bram and Rob Deitz, the group A Capella Academy. Via Internet, he, Rob and Ben interview potential participants for this choir every year. They meet at a university every year, where they receive in depth training in A Capella performing. Avi is a talented writer, singer and composer. Always worth listening to.

You should hear his cover of Lean On Me. He has so many great songs, Change on the Rise, Get Down, Aberdeen, I'll Get By, Chains, Floating on a Dream, First Place I Go, any version of All Is Well (my favorite is live from Sunset Sound).

The Lean On Me cover is beautiful! I used it for my dad's funeral, since he loved the original and I love Avi's music. It has so much emotion in it, and I wish I could listen to Healing with my dad, I'm sure he'd have loved it.

This is the benefit of Avi leaving PTX, we might not have gotten this music had he stayed. Hope you will continue reacting to Avi's music. Change on the Rise is powerful, All is Well ( 7 Layers Sessions) is beautiful, When I'm a Fool ( Live at Sunset Sound) is rockin, then for his stunning lows he has a few songs my favorite is Black is the Color of my True Loves Hair.

Yeah, that's the effect Avi's voice and writing have on me (and his fanbase in general). His music has a way of feeling immediately familiar. His voice and words bring the kind of comfort that comes from someone who has been through the tough times himself. He always makes you feel the hope shining through the other side - even amidst the turmoil. I liken his writing to Haiku - he says so much with so few words (often using metaphors of nature). I would love to see you react to more. I am going to echo the recommendation for "All is Well: 7 Layers Session".

You totally get Avi! ❤️ LOVE your reaction and LOVE this song! Avi has a generational voice and can cross any genre. He still uses his “choral” voice while performing with choirs across the country for showcase events. Avi can sing bluegrass, folk, southern rock, country Americana, and anything else. The man has endless talent. Yes he writes his own music, does his own arrangements and is a master at expressing emotion. His main focus is the singer-songwriter folk genre, but he writes what is in his heart. I think you’ll enjoy all of his music (and there is so much variety!) but you might as well start at the beginning. That way you can follow his growth, musically and emotionally, and watch his own healing taking place. New sub! Looking forward to more Avi on your channel!

Two videos you might be interested in watching are a Q and A he did in Kansas City, MO, last year. I found it very interesting and showed a lot of Avi’s personality. Another, since someone mentioned it, his rendition of O Holy Night is beautiful.. it was recorded during a live concert so you can see and hear his gorgeous voice without being tweaked in a studio. He has several videos of just him and his guitar. These are often for fundraisers for the A Capella Academy. They (Avi, Ben and Rob, the cofounders of the ACA) want as many qualified students as possible to attend the camp, and they raise the money for scholarships.

You've been given lots of great suggestions a to what to listen to of Avi's songs, but my personal recommendation, based o your reaction to "Healing", is echoing what others have said - "All Is Well", the 7 Layers Sessions version which was filmed in a church in Utrecht, Netherlands during his 2022 European tour. It's just him, his acoustic guitar, and the wonderful natural reverb of the building. Not to mention beautiful lyrics. Another reactor, after trying to label Avi with a genre, decided that his music is too diverse in style and genre, so he said that Avi is simply his own genre. I agree.

I think Avi is bringing the voice control, training, constant practice, and deep understanding of music to Americana that you would find in the world of opera. I'm not saying he is an opera singer......I mean that he is changing Americana by bringing in those elements. He isn't just a good singer. He is a serious musician.

English isn't my first language so, next time, I'll do my best to express myself about songwriting but for now let me suggest you a Pentatonix original from the 2013 album PTX, vol. Beautiful reaction. I would love for you to react to his Seven Layers performance of All is Well. Performed in a church (in Holland, I believe) it is stunning. He has so many wonderful songs to choose from and they show his journey through stress and depression and becoming his own singer.

Avi left Pentatonix because he was struggling to keep up with the pace of the group, struggling with anxiety, and didn't want to be away from his family and friends as much as he was while with the Pentatonix. He didn't leave because he had decided to go solo.

Interesting thing I just learned. He said he went into the studio to record, did the scratch demo, and it ended up being the version he released. What you are hearing is Avi. One take. Raw. First take. The really interesting part is that he did all the bass and overtones used in the Soundtrack for the second Blade Runner movie. They called him to audition and wanted to hear what he might offer. He pulled over to the side of the road, did some samples for them......and he never had to go to the studio. It was exactly what they wanted and they used that in the movie. If you know Avi's voice it's all over the place in that soundtrack. You can hear it best in Wallace. My favorite work from him is always the live stuff when he just flows into the music. House of the Rising sun youtube video by Mace Huber( bad video, awesome sound) the version of Born in California he did sitting on his bed at home, Ill Get By the Colorado Sound performance, and of course live shows on his tour. Oh, and the Huston show Oh Holy Night.

Thank you for a wonderful reaction, you made me see a connection between the lyrics and Avi’s vocals that I did not understand myself. I just know that Avi’s voice and lyrics go straight to my soul. My first song was the mesmerising, almost etherreal “Otherside” and I was hooked immediately. Subbed for more Avi.

Fun fact about this one. Avi said on Instagram that he was going through some things when he went to record the vocal for this song. They did multiple takes, but ended up going with the very first take because there was a rawness and an honesty to it that he just couldn’t recapture in later takes.
