The theatrics is very integral part of Babymetal. Crowd participation, choreo, set design. Think of them as more like Rammstein performance. If you're not into that, sadly you'd miss out on half of what Babymetal is. I'm sure a lot of Babymetal fans will give you suggestions. I'd toss in mine with From Dusk Till Dawn from there 2021 Budokan concert. it's one of their few all English songs. Hope you're willing to explore more of Babymetal. Have fun. 😁🤘🦊🤘

Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance. BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii (cute) metal group (a metal subgenre that they created) that formed in 2010 when the original 3 girls were 11-12 years old (yes, they were very young), and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. Also, they are currently on another world tour that includes many dates here in the USA, and released a new amazing album just a few months ago! 🤘🦊🤘

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey.🦊🤘🔥 Nice reaction, I'm glad you got this suggestion, pretty soon you'll get a lot of BM fans flooding in your comments to help you out with everything about them, but one of things you gotta know is that live performance is when they really shine, you won't get the blaster sound of the live band in the studio album, not even the same musicians, some tracks are nice either way but the core way to experience this, is at live concerts, they bring the best live shows with top notch production. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal". They are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25. *MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. *MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently. None of them are related. After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said. They were part of Sabaton's Europe Tour, recently finished the Asian and Australian Tour, and everyone were having a blast with them coming back to the stage in this live tour and more is coming such the Babyklok Tour in the US along with Dethklok and another return to UK and Europe for a headline tour. Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind. Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday. 15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date. This was at Legend 1997 (that's the title of this live concert referring to SuMetal birthyear) in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are: - "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad - "Babymetal Death", be ready for this insane ending, The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to the greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore. The statue behind is SuMetal resemblance and is a tribute to Metallica's Lady Justice. The official MV is also creepy for some fans, I guess the organ gave that effect, you'll also see the neckbrace there for the first time which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan. Another thing that you don't see so much here in their live performance is, when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are having fun with cryo or smoke gun, the choreography on this part is with them down on their knees and doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is like bowing down back and forth summoning the metal spirit represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal is standing with the mic rise up and her relentless death stare, that's another moment we called -NotACult- The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities. They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists). They are: - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.) - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks. - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday". - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father is very famous in Japan music scene. Right now they are touring with another complete different set of musicians, we called them Western Kami Band, they've been playing with them since 2019, so the Kami Band musicians aren't official members and the girls are the only front women of this group. Like i said live is always the way because diving into BM is full of lore telling us an story but if you wanna see some really good MV i suggest you these: - Megitsune - Iine! - Karate Oh btw the girls are not just there for the theatrical, they're in charge on hyping the audience and crowd participation. In early days they even got their own duo performing 4 songs, so they're more like just side partners but you're right about the lead singer SuMetal, she's phenomenal and the whole project was build around her stage presence and powerful vocals. And please don't limit yourself with the language barrier, another thing that helps this group to cross those boundaries is the dance choreography if you look closer and pay attention, but either way they got 4 songs full English lyrics although you can hear some others with English lines here and there, one of those songs are entirely dedicated to the fans abroad who tried so hard learning everything about them including the Japanese language. If YT allow me, I'm gonna leave in my next comment where to get safe clips to react since sometimes is very hard to watch some of their vids. See you next time!🦊🤘🔥

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions: - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grR2nKeIr86WdnU.html - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZhjapV0mraufIE.html - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mrtja6aK0Nampn0.html - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pN2jnNGe3brckqM.html - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oLiTbMeTzM-mgH0.html - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pM1oiMKblc3UfH0.html - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/br1yd8x9srS-k3k.html - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eLmaqZyAvtq7imQ.html - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j9BdiLR60dfXeYU.html If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7mqjJyVsZyVY4U.html - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z8qEZNyovriZg6M.html - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9lzqbyHs8uoYKs.html - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fLF_f5mnmLPIYpc.html - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official, this one is easily to find but be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case. - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g552ftie286Rp2w.html Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo. - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fs1ghdydyM2cdmQ.html This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p5pgidCFrbnMZJc.html And here's a BM guide (the long one). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/naqemJOp3NTNhJs.html There's a more recent beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until this year unlike the other one.🦊🤘

I’m just going to be honest with you. I was a little shocked on my introduction to this band. You bet this has a ton of theatrics and I have grown to love this band and fan interactions. I don’t normally state a favorite band, for fear of insulting other bands I love. However, Babymetal has been my favorite for years and they were my gateway to countless other Japanese bands. They have been around for 13 years and are the most profitable group to come out of Japan for 40 years. I appreciate your coming back to them and they have some of the greatest musicians on the planet, but they are theatrical. In fact their choreographer has worked with many groups, studied on Broadway and had a hand in the production of the closing Olympic ceremony in 2016 and opening in 2022. Note dates may be off a year or so. If you just like heavier Metal, then as was commented, Nemophila, Lovebites an East of Eden for starters. I’ve seen Band-Maid live and they are great, but more Rock than Metal. I can toss in about 25 other bands if you like, but those are my favorites. PS - To my knowledge, none of the current bands have headlined shows of more than 8,000. Babymetal performed back to back one man shows at the Tokyo Dome with 55,000 in attendance each night. That was back in 2016. You probably need to look back to X-Japan in the 80’s for that kind of draw. X-Japan did perform at the Tokyo Dome something like 12 times over their career and were previously the most successful band To My Knowledge! I may be incorrect.

I'm Japanese. Thank for your great reaction. BABYMETAL's members are famous star (acting in TV. CM. etc) in Japan from when a child. The agency they work for is the largest listed entertainment company in Japan and has many stars. It is very difficult to get into this office, and female applicants need to be exceptionally beautiful, first of all. Many stars have been with the company since childhood and take various lessons from leading instructors, such as dancing, singing, acting, etc., and usually become an actress. And among them, a small number of people with high singing ability (like the lead vocal of BABYMETAL : Suzuka Nakamoto) becomes a musician. This is because it is extremely rare for a person to have both a beautiful appearance like an actress and a high singing ability. We can see many videos of her singing song since when elementary school on KZfaq. BABYMETAL was created to make use of her talent in 2010(When she was 13years old). When Babymetal song is voted in popularity by Japanese, 'Akatsuki' usually comes in first place.😀

The thing with their performance is that it kind of helps tell the story of the song itself, granted songs like this one is kind of hard to understand unless you know what it's about, but they actually really do sound better live. The recording studios and mixers tend to add a bit of autotune to the main vocalist's voice (her name is Su-Metal) which none of the Babymetal fans like much, as you said yourself, she has an amazing voice. So why hide it with any amount of autotune. Also, they LOVE incorporating the audience into their music. It is part of their genetic makeup I'd even say. They actually have said in interviews that they regard the audience of Babymetal concerts as part of the band and group. So even IF you're not really a big fan as much of the "theatrics", I'd still at the very least keep up with the live music and just focus on the music then. I'd also recommend Rondo of Nightmare with mischief of gods intro. It is a song that is just Su-Metal (the 2 dancers, Moametal and Yuimetal, get to take a break for this song) and the musicians, so you won't have the dancing as much really plus it's an amazing song. There are other songs too where Su-Metal takes a break and instead it's the 2 dancers singing, but I think you'll like Rondo of Nightmare more. With all that being said, the look on your face when you first saw the girls was absolutely priceless. You had the wtf look on your face and you also had the how old are these girls look on your face lol the singer was 16 and the 2 dancers were 14 I believe in this recording. They've been around since 2010. They also just released a new song about 4 days ago which is amazing and also has Tom Morello, the guitarist from Rage Against the Machine in it. The song is entitled Metali if you want to give that one a try too. It's a music video, but it was very well done and so far most of the Babymetal community have really enjoyed it.

@@ashlenamusic (Subscribed!) I second this suggestion for the 2014 Sonisphere performance of Ijime,Dame,Zettai. The main gist you'd want to know about this song's translation is that it's a call to end bullying, and to end the collective blind eye that is so often turned toward bullying. I'm not the best lore-keeper about Babymetal, but I can offer an outline of the legend about this day. The story is that it was their first tour outside Asia, and it wasn't until late in the preceding days that they were upgraded from a side booking at this festival to play on the main stage instead. An important part of the legend is to say that UK metalheads are famously rowdy and vocal about acts they don't like (I can't confirm this personally), so it was a dubious honor to put a largely unknown band on the main stage when they might be faced with the wrath of these fans. But the girls mustered their resolve to win the audience, and as you'll see, by the end of the performance the crowd was "into it" and chanting for more. Their merchandise outsold all the other acts at the festival, including some of the biggest names in metal. I think I picked up somewhere along the way that this performance is known to fans as "The Miracle at Sonisphere"... but a quick web search doesn't turn up much about that term, so maybe my memory is confabulating it.

Was actually taken aback about the comments regarding theatrics and speaking in Japanese. Babymetal is an experience that incorporates metal music, singing, dancing, screaming, and spectacle. They are not just a Japanese group, they are an international group that has written music that takes from all cultures and genres. Their basic goal is to bring all people and cultures together to celebrate music... metal music. They sing in both Japanese and English, and when performing in different countries have learned to speak phrases in each country they perform in. In all honesty, their early lyrics are not deep, they are basically about things teenage girls would he interested in; chocolate, getting ready for school, making sure there are no sissy boys in the mosh pits, and fox god worship. You know stuff like that. Their lyrics mature as they age. And it is easy to find translations. Anyway, hope you give them a few more chances. If you give them a chance, they will infect you.

@@ashlenamusic I guess a comment like, " I probably won't listen to much of this band because it is in Japanese " (not a direct quote) kind of rubs a lot of fans the wrong way, because we have all listened to them based of the entertainment value, talent, and passion of performance without really caring that much about what they are saying. It kind of is a thing that honestly shouldn't need to be translated to enjoy. Plus the fan base is a bit sensitive to the idea of them being called theatrical, as it starts to get close to the general critique that they are just a gimmick. Anyway, I am fine with it all, just trying to inform you on who these ladies and performers are and what they are about. If you end up not liking it, no harm. I appreciate your honesty. And although I'm sad that you limit yourself in expanding your music experience, I understand language and performance style can sometimes hinder that experience when you aren't used to it. Like seriously, can you understand gutteral heavy metal screams, mumble rap, or Voicoder , even if it's in English? Sometimes you just have to enjoy musical entertainment for what it is. Musical entertainment. I don't know, to me half the fun of music in different languages and from different places around the world, is discovering new things. Babymetal is a very visual type of musical group. Live performance is where they thrive. Mixing genres is what they do. They do everything from Death metal to Rap. From Latin to Indian. From Celtic to progressive metal. And everything in between. Babymetal can't be categorized by just one song. Give them another try. Try something newer like Monochrome. That's a good headphones type of song, no visuals needed.

I HIGHLY suggest "Akatsuki - Live at Budokan Black Night" or "Rondo of Nightmare (w/ Mischiefs of Metal Gods Intro)" for two of BABYMETAL's heavy songs with the least amount of choreography and minimal theatrics. ALSO, If you want songs with more English, I suggest "Mirror Mirror" or "Believing", both are from their latest album. Then there are "The One" and "From Dusk Till Dawn" from older albums.🤘🦊🤘

9:42 This is something I have heard from many native English speakers that surprises me a lot. As their language is one of the most widely spoken, they have little or no interest in other languages, which as a Spanish speaker bothers me a bit that they don't have to make an effort and the rest do have to learn English. One piece of advice that I give you is to get to know different parts of the world, not everything revolves around your country, the cultural richness is beautiful, and we can learn a lot from each other. The experience of hearing other languages and delving into other cultures is beautiful.

I’m not saying, I don’t listen to non-English music. I’m just saying, I don’t go and search for it. Maybe I said it in the wrong way. I am well aware that not everything revolves around my own country. I listen to a lot of Spanish-speaking songs, I listen to hell Rammstein. So it’s not like I’m closed off to the idea I just don’t know about it and hence why I have this KZfaq channel to learn more.

That's precisely why they made sure to use the best session musicians in Japan and hired the Kari Band (Kami Band when performing with BABYMETAL). Another KZfaqr made a wonderful comparison between them and Weird Al. Weird Al knew his music would never be taken seriously unless he had some of the best music writers and band members backing him. Same thing here; their manager was concerned they would be considered a gimmick band if they just had anyone playing with them, so they sought out the best for musicians, writers, and choreographer in Japan. It helped legitimize them quickly and build a major fanbase there which grew overseas. I think I saw someone describe BABYMETAL as the "biggest band you've never heard of" because there has been so much gatekeeping in the U.S. by the metal community with them over the last decade (there was a lot in Europe, but the people actually opened up to them a lot quicker). In short, they are NOT a gimmick and should 100% be taken seriously because they are professionals, they are incredibly talented, and they're doing what every other metal group does: they put on a show. You think the guys from Slipknot stay in their masks 24/7 and are actually messed up in the head? A couple of them, maybe, but largely they're just normal guys putting on a show. Why is it fine to accept them as serious but consider BABYMETAL comedy? Because they're girls? Japanese? It can't be their look or talent, because again, Slipknot exists and is huge. I know you said you like them, so that last part is more for the people who might say they don't or try to give people crap for liking BABYMETAL. Literally the opposite side of the same coin to Slipknot.

Haha, well, whether to take a Babymetal song seriously or not, it depends! For example, there's no way you can take Gimme Chocolate!! and Catch Me If You Can seriously, both are just funny goofy songs, ableit extremely heavy. Former is their meme hit song about wanting to eat chocolate but worried about gaining weight, other one is like a rediculously heavy and dark song about a game of hide and seek. Headbanger and Megitsune is kind of in the middle? Former is an upbeat song to get you going while still carrying a deep meaning, although not dark, and Megitsune is a very fun and energetic song, but a great song empowering women. On the otherhand, Monochrome, and Starlight has very deep meaning. Former is about experiencing dispair while maintaining a hopeful outlook (framed around the bombing of Hiroshima, without getting political at all), and the later is a tribute song to their late guitarist Mikio (RIP). So yea.. it depends! I suggest checking out Andrew Hartley's chanel, he's a professor and Babymetal fan, and does really great in-depth breakdowns of their songs, lyrics, and cultural meaning. Learned a lot, and allowed me to enjoy their music even more! 🤘🦊

@@Ganimal83 Ok, let me clarify. When I say take it seriously, I mean the music and performances as they are all professionals, even when they were younger. Those songs either told a story or had a message behind them when you look at the lyrics, so I still look at them seriously as good music with a deeper meaning, but yes I 100% agree that they are fun/funny. I mean playing tag/hide & go seek with an ogre is ridiculous, but the song is straight up good.

Japanese does not translate into English very well. As to the language gap, don't think, just feel....They are best live. But Karate and Megitsune official videos are as good as the live versions, so I would recommend them. IMHO, The creators of this collaboration truly caught lightning in a bottle!!! Haha, nice! The joy of getting your ears rocked by a couple of 14 / 16 year olds for the 1st time, priceless 🤣. Yea, google translate is terrible sometimes, lol. This song is about a girl turning 15 (coming of age year in Japan), and taking a train to go to her first rock concert, and that fleeting feeling of euphoria first time headbanging (and also becoming an adult), that she will never have again. Thus etching it into her heart and memory forever. Also, Babymetal is definitely a show band. While there are plenty of songs to jam out to, you'll definitely get the best experience seeing their live performances. With that said, here's a few suggestions for ya: 1). Metali ft. Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine - Fun and heavy summer festival song. Just released a few days ago. 2). Akatsuki (not the unfinished version) - Su-Metal solo, power metal ballad. 3). Very cool!!! This version you watched is from the show “Legend 1997 - Apocalypse” from 2013. Babymetal is not a “band”, it is a project thought and executed with perfection. The stages of the big shows are crazy, the performances keep the choreographies and yet each show is different. No two songs are the same. You'll see a lot of well-executed metal mixed with pop, rock, reggae, rap, Latin, Indian music... The arrangements are written with the audience in mind, which is also part of the show. You can listen to the tracks, or even watch the clips, but it won't be the same. Babymetal is for watching playing live, on stages with their fan base. Welcome to FoxHole!🤘🦊🤘

I'm sure someone has said this already, but in the words of the lead singer, Su-Metal, "Don't think. Feel." Turn off your brain to thinking like you're missing out because of the language barrier and just enjoy the songs. They are incredibly well put together and many of them do carry a deeper meaning. As for this one (not sure if anyone explained it yet), turning 15 is like becoming an adult at 18 in the U.S. - you no longer have to go to school if you don't want to continue and you can start looking for a job and such. I could be wrong on this, but I seem to remember others saying it in the past on other videos. This song is about turning 15 and going to a metal concert on the birthday. It's kind of ironic because Su was performing metal concerts before she was 15, so it was a bit reversed for her.

For lyrics there are actually a number of sites with decent translations - google translate is crap lol. There are also a number of yt vids that have the translation in captions which might help with the foreign language listening experience. The other 2 girls can sing well as well, and have some duets/solos, but have less strong vocals compared to the main singer so they dont do whole shows singing. This is one of their more theatrical performances, but in general they do have a lot of crowd interaction. Su has some solo songs with less crowd interaction - akatsuki, amore, and rondo of nightmare are all solid songs

Nice reaction! I don't understand what they are saying either but I don't really care. When it comes to rock or metal bands, lyrics are the least important thing for me. I can never understand them or relate to them anyway. That's just how it is for me, not intending to say your opinion is wrong. Since Babymetal always sounds better live and they are fun to watch, most fans ignore the studio albums. That might be why Spotify numbers aren't that high. As far as the theatrics, if I'm gonna pay money to see a concert, I don't want to see the band just playing instruments and staring at their shoes. I could stay home and listen to the album in that case. I think there is a misconception by some others that a 'show' distracts from the music or some even claim, tries to mask poor quality in the music. I think you will learn soon that is not the case here. The theatrics and the music interact together beautifully.

Good feedback and welcome to the BabyMetal Galaxy. The first thing you should know about this band is that it is not a traditional heavy metal band (as it is known in the West). They are an idol group. In Japan, idols are a group of boys and girls who dance and sing. The peculiarity of this group is that instead of doing it with traditional Japanese pop (J-pop) they do it with heavy metal. These 3 girls started very young in a larger idol group (15 girls between 10 and 15 years old) that emulated the Japanese elementary school. Sumetal (the singer) was 12 years old and Yui-Metal and Moa-Metal (the chorus girls) were 10 years old. Babymetal was created to represent the Heavy Metal Club (the main group called Sakura Gakuin represented the traditional school clubs such as basketball, painting, cooking, etc. very traditional in Japan). The producer himself declared at the time that when he decided to present the idea of fusing j-pop with metal to the Amuse company (he was a great lover of metal) he was not very convinced, but they opted for it. The surprise is that it became a phenomenon. Although the natural audience for Sakura Gakuin and Babymetal by association were girls between the ages of 10 and 15 (their songs on their first album were aimed at that audience, so many of them can be considered children's songs) they managed to break that barrier and reach the heavy metal public, making their concerts an authentic hodgepodge. Their success was overwhelming in Asia, playing at various festivals in the area. However, it would not be until 2014 that the group tried to make the leap outside of Asia. They did it neither more nor less than at Sonisphere in England, a festival with a reputation for dispatching groups they don't like in very bad ways (even throwing urine bottles at them). At first they were going to do it on one of the secondary stages (about 5,000 viewers), but due to their overwhelming success on KZfaq they were brought to the main stage, before 50,000 metalheads, 95% of whom had never heard of them. SuMetal commented in an interview that they were terrified, but that he didn't know what scared him more... that they won't understand their band and their music or that it was empty... Well, today they are the Japanese heavy metal band that furthest away has arrived in history, so they did well. They currently have 4 albums: Babymetal (2013): an album, for me, childish which is perhaps its purest essence (they would have been between 15-13 years old during its validity) Metal Resistance (2016): a stage where his music began to mature without finally moving away from its roots. (between 17-15 years old) Metal Galaxy (2018): here their music had matured a lot, just like them, and they began to experiment with the fusion of different musical styles with metal, such as hip-hop, Indian music, European folklore, dance music, etc Finally we have The Other One (2023): their fourth album that they are presenting. A more evolved music. Babymetal is, at present, the most influential Japanese metal group in Japan (not better, more influential, since then everyone has their opinion) that reaches programs that other groups cannot, such as the main Christmas program in Japan , for example (it is by its nature idol) and the one that has gone the furthest in history outside of Japan. A recommendation: always live. Babymetal has a staging that increases the quality of the song, because you can see, live, how talented all the components are, especially the KamyBand

The only BABYMETAL videos that don't have choreography or theatrics are a couple of ballads or slower acoustic versions. So if you want to focus on the songs and not on their performance, I suggest just playing any of their live performances and just ignoring the visuals, because their live performances sound better than most of their studio recordings.

Wow!!!, reviewing your channel after Lunario's live I found this gem, another of my favorite bands, although Babymetal is no longer what it was for many reasons, it is and continues to be the band that has the most connection with its audience , since they are highly important for each song due to the choreographies that have been created over the years, headbangers, is the "story" of a teenager who goes to her first heavy metal concert, it should be noted that everything is very to the Japanese, the entire Budokan recital is legendary. Nice reaction. Welcome to the foxhole. The happiest place in metal. Each of their songs are different from each other but they retain an overall Babymetal sound to them. I know how you feel about not understanding the language. But as it's been said music is a language all its own. Music breaks down all walls. For Babymetal the live performance is what it's all about. They think of their albums as business cards. Just an introduction to them. Babymetal is the total package. The music the singing the dancing the audience participation. They think of the fans as part of the band. Because of this they shout at the end of their shows "We Are Babymetal" referring to everyone there. They do have a few songs all in English. They're from Japan and noticed fans worldwide started to learn the Japanese words so they could sing along with them. So honored by this. They learned some English to sing with. Now they've been around for over 10 years. And they speak English a lot better these days. Su-metal is the lead singer. Yuimetal and Moametal are listed as scream and dance, but they do a lot more than just that. As Su's hype "Girls" and I feel comfortable writing that because they were around 10 years old when they started. Yes, you read that right. 10 and Su was around 12. I hope you continue down the foxhole. Where you will See Yui and Moa in their duos without Su. And Su doing solos. Something for everyone with Babymetal. The group was formed around Su who is an amazingly talented singer. Over the years she's learned some fantastic skills to go along with that talent. Enjoy the journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

Another hard part is that these days the instrumental musicians are more in the background and wear masks. Alsmot everyone knows whi they are, but the fact that they're placed in the background is a little upsetting. For a while they didn't wear masks and were more upfront and part of the performance. If you see them on tour outside of Japan though at keast the instrumental musicians are closer by and you can see them since the stages are smaller. To be honest I don't think you can truly judge Babymetal until you go to one of their concerts. Their concerts are like a heavy metal party with everyone going nuts. It's just a lot of fun. It's kind if a joke but the music is so good you have to actually take them somewhat seriously.

As others have said, the theatrics is sort of their thing. The 2 side girls exist to solve a specific problem with live shows in Japan. In Japan, it's considered rude to go to a concert and sing out loud along with the band. The rest of the audience is there to hear the singer, not you, so Japanese crowds tend to not join in and sing along. The side girls are there to give the audience a part in the song that it's OK to chant and yell along with. They act as sort of an interface to bring the crowd into the performance, and as you can see from the participation levels here, they're pretty great at it 😁 But when you go to the studio recordings, they can seem a bit pointless.

Good first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊I will just start by saying you would be making a mistake if you go for the studio recordings rather than the live performances - even if you are not into the theatrics (yet) BABYMETAL are one of those very rare bands who sound better live with the Kami Band's instrumentals and especially lead singer Su-metal's live vocals not being spoiled by the compression and over-production of the studio. You have just found one of the best and the most entertaining live bands on the planet (they have international awards to prove that is not just my opinion). Is the language really such a barrier? There are so many bands where I don't understand a word despite them supposedly singing in English - at least with BABYMETAL the girls will also be acting out the meaning of most of their songs with the choreo, so that gives me half a chance of understanding - and if I still don't understand Su-metal is particularly good at expressing and making me feel the emotion of a song. As Su-metal said when they started and Metal was so new and different to the the music they were familiar with, they couldn't understand English so they couldn't understand what any of the songs were about, but they watched Metallica for the first time from side stage and it hit her: "Don't think. Feel." They formed in 2010 so you have a lot of catching up to do. They started as a sub-unit of a school themed J-Pop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin which was set up by the Amuse talent agency as a way to coach and train about a dozen of the most talented girls on their books in all aspects of entertainment (singing, dancing, acting, modelling, writing, stage management, TV presenting etc) with a view to their choosing how they would like to continue their career when they were at school leaving age (15 in Japan). BABYMETAL was the pet project of one metalhead producer who was inspired to experiment with this fusion of Metal with JPop aesthetics after seeing Su-metal (the lead singer) singing with her previous JPop trio and being very impressed with her no holds barred singing style and stage presence - she was only 10 or 11 at that time. He pictured her fronting a metal band and got his chance to work with her when her previous group ended and she joined Sakura Gakuin. In 2013 Su would be 15 and would graduate from Sakura Gakuin (having the school theme it was for girls aged 10 to 15), but it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her vehicle as she furthered her career as a vocalist (not forgetting her two very good and also very talented friends Yui and Moa, their role was crucial to making BABYMETAL original and unique) and should separate from the Idol group to go with her as an independent band in their own right. They are Su-metal (lead vocalist), Moametal and, since the start of April this year, Momometal (backing vocals, harmonies but mainly in charge of dance, leading the audience, getting everybody involved and joining in ... their role is just one of the things that makes them stand out from other bands and it is key to how they control audiences of thousands and have done so from a very early age ... you spotted the crowd jumping when they did, their choreo is designed for that to happen, the crowd take their cue and follow their lead). This is not the meaningless dancing with scantily clad girls (or boys) mincing round doing the same old standard moves taken from the grab-bag of dance to fill the stage and to take your mind off bland music that you may be familiar with from American, European or Korean pop acts. The third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues. After Yui left Su and Moa chose to continue as a duo for the next 4 - 5 years through to their 10th anniversary in 2020 and a bit beyond, supported by 3 dancers (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) taking turns dancing in the third spot. Momoko was the only remaining Avenger from about March 2020 and was finally revealed as the official new third member at concerts on 1st and 2nd April this year. BABYMETAL really are unique in that they invented their own genre and their own way of doing things. Do not try to categorise them as just one thing or to put them in any one box. You will not be able to predict them, just expect the unexpected. They don't copy anybody or follow the same format as nearly every other band we've been watching and listening to for the last 6 decades (as you saw for a start they have brought choreographed dance to metal ... something I absolutely never thought metal needed before I found them). Yes, they could just have Su-metal singing and the Kami Band playing the instruments, but then it would just be another band like all the others - a band with exceptional musicians and an incredible vocalist, but same old format as virtually every other band. What BABYMETAL are is original, innovative and unique. Nobody has been able to do what BABYMETAL do (some have tried, none came close). They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. There are many people who have played in the Kami Band as they all have their own bands or other commitments and they swap in and out depending on their availability, but the same hard core of about 6 musicians have played the vast majority of concerts and they are the ones you will see in most live performance videos. The Kami Band became the full time support for all live shows at the start of 2014 and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions. The Kami Band of the West - American musicians - have supported BABYMETAL in the more extended foreign tours since 2019. They have about 60 songs now, each one different to the last, they have songs in virtually every metal genre but will also mix and blend so many other musical styles and genres with the metal. Some songs are good hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. This video was filmed at their Legend 1997 concert in December 2013 - it was the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday and was her birthday party, she was born in 1997. Yui and Moa were still only 14 .... imagine having the talent to be able to lead and control a crowd that size at that age - not just for this one song either, they had been keeping that up right from the start of the concert and this was the 12th or 13th song. 'Headbanger' is one of their most popular and most liked songs - and it was one of their earliest songs as they recorded it in 2012 when they were still in Sakura Gakuin. I was so happy it was on the set list for their European tour in 2020 so I could experience it in person.🤘 The song is about a girl going to her first concert on her 15th birthday, but it is also a coming of age thing - compulsory education ends at age 15 in Japan so the girl is realising life will never be the same, she will never be considered as a child again and her first 15 years passed by so quickly, so she is etching this special night of her 15th into her heart so she will never forget. There are many special performances of 'Headbanger' and all of them worth watching. On or near their 15th birthdays in 2014 Su handed the mic and stand to Yui (in Paris) and Moa (in Cologne) half way through the song and they took over lead vocals. There are fancam videos for these. In 2019 the same thing happened at Legend M for Moa's 20th birthday - the lyrics were changed to "...this special night of my 20th..." That one is known as Moabanger.

Good start on your trip down the foxhole. Found your comment about views on Spotify CA interesting - US Spotify 2.5 M monthly listeners. As you noted 2.75 M subs on YT with 735 M YT views. Of course this doesn't include ten of thousands of reactor/reviewer views. Many reactors comment about the language barrier. I stopped listening to western music a long time ago, because I couldn't understand the lyrics and grew tired of hearing all the disjointed eminations from "singers", "rappers", etc. I find Babymetal and most Japanese female bands, despite language barriers, to be more rewarding and enjoyable. Plus I've learned more Japanes, than when I was living there. Su-metal: "Don't think, just feel."

Just arrived, direct from hell, BABYMETAL. The lead singer Sumetal has a father who played bass in a band called the Hooligans. One night in Osaka at a dingy club Sumetal's father led the band in a rendition of blue oyster cults Godzilla. He was drunk and did a pretty lousy job of it. Godzilla was in the crowd and took great offense and swore that if any of his children made it in entertainment he would come back and destroy them. Fast forward to 2010 and Kobametal was forming a band with Sumetal as the lead and upon hearing the legend, he found two girls who had a unique friend called Mothra. He gave them roles in the band. So while Yuimetal and Moametal might seem unnecessary, Their constant summoning of Mthra throughout the performance and the battle with Godzilla that ensues far away from the concert keeps everyone safe and allows Queen Su to go home at night.
