Here's my 3rd time returning back to the band BABYMETAL. I came in with an open mind and simply want to let the music speak for itself. Will I appreciate the talent these girls have (as well as the Kami band) or let everyone know that my BABYMETAL journey is over?
Fyi, I've done 2 other reactions to this band in the past so check them out if you'd like. "Distortion" and the song "Gimme Chocolate" are uploaded on my channel.
If you haven't see any of my previous reactions here on KZfaq then I'd like to welcome you to DannymikReacts. I react to all genres of music and am now branching out to the beatbox genre and short comedy skits. So please, kick back and relax... I hope you enjoy!!
If you enjoy my reaction(s) then please hit the like and subscribe buttons to help support me. Don't forget to click the notification bell as well so you know when I'm uploading new material. Thanks and ALWAYS strive to make your day count!!

The way the guitars started off in this song were complete fire... that's the type of sound I'm looking for. Are people still having trouble with Road of Resistance?? That's the one that some have told me to be careful with. Rondo of Nightmare NEEDS to be on my list of future reactions. You just reminded me about that one so THANK you! @@DannymikReacts Generally speaking Road of Resistance Live in Japan doesn't get blocked to be honest. You have a good 99% chance that it will be fine to upload. Also lol I commented with the exact same 3 recommendations haha ! Rondo of Nightmare is amazing. The "Mischiefs of God Intro" part is because the Kami band that you like so much does a solo-section, each of the musician shreds on their instruments to summon the Queen Su-Metal to sing and lead the Metal Resistance to help unite the world through music. And no, we're #notacult ffs ! (maybe)

@@DannymikReacts Pa pa ya live is ridiculous. Its not a full on classic metal song. Its a great Babymetal interactive song to get the crowd going live though. Remember Babymetal was started as a group to battle the continuous role out of Jpop bands played on Japanese radio and to bring the audience back to Metal. That's why they are a sort of crossover. Their formula is exciting and fresh. That's why everyone likes them. However check this 2015 concert out on Dailymotion. Babymetal live in Japan. That's something all bands and audiences should aspire to be. Check out the first song on this 2015 concert as I think you already reviewed it and see what I mean. The second song "iine" was one of their first singles and this is blatant crossover trying to drag the J-poppers over to the Babymetal side. Yet live, iine is amazing.www.dailymotion.com/video/x49sqy2

Thank you for being open to their different style! I think crowd interaction has a higher priority in Japanese (Pop) music in general, and BABYMETAL have brought that along into Metal as well. And the fans gratefully accept it, a real BABYMETAL crowd is a real joy to watch (especially in Japan, in my opinion). "Karate" is one of the more "accessible" songs for metalheads, I'd say. Many songs in their catalogue are more on the "kawaii" side, it will be interesting to see if you can get used to those. Personally, I can't really put myself in your shoes, because for me the fusion of Pop and Metal works perfectly. I think they are doing a fantastic job integrating them. For now I'd like to recommend two more songs that I'm pretty sure you'd like: - "Road of Resistance", a fast and heavy song, and what's more, an incredible performance: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLp1jLh3zLLalY0.html - "Rondo of Nightmare", a Su solo with awesome vocals, and in this version a great instrumental intro as well: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h96JdMZ63tGWc6M.html If you are still here after that we can tackle the more poppy tunes. ;-)

Taking on a band like BABYMETAL is really switching gears for me but that's part of why I do this channel. I WANT to learn about new music. Some bands will take more listening to than other bands and that's the thing about this group. The poppy harmony is the hardest part to deal with. Su has a great voice so it's slowly working; and I'm not PUSHING to like them. Thanks for the view and comment!!
@DannymikReacts
@DannymikReacts 4 жыл бұрын
It's the poppy harmonics in the chorus parts that don't sit good with me. SU as a vocalists is growing on me but the backup vocal stuff isn't. It's like in the late 50s/early 60s years when the Beatles were very much pop music. Then they explored a bit into a more "trippy" sound with more rock roots. That's the Beatles catalog that's when they grabbed my attention. Just my 2 cents here. Su and the Kami band are keeping me coming back for more.

Yes, there is a new album out. It's called "Metal Galaxy" and it's their third studio album (first was "BABYMETAL in 2014 and second was "Metal Resistance" in 2016) so far. You definitely have to make some more BABYMETAL reactions because they are beyond awesome! Many will suggest you react to "Road of Resistance" live in Japan (and yes, it's an absolutely epic performance) but I want you to react specifically to *"Ijime, Dame, Zettai"* live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 in the UK. This was their first big exposure to a metal crowd in the west and the song was the last of a 40-minutes-gig: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html P.S.: The bald guy is Daisuke "BOH" Bohte. If you only did Distortion, Gimme Chocolate and Karate. you haven't even started to appreciate how good of a signer Su-chan is. Try Rondo of Nightmare (with the intro), or No Rain No Rainbow, or Akatsuki. I think you have to let go of your preconceptions about what metal should be or shouldn't be... Metal is foremost attitude, and BABYMETAL has tons of attitude... Think about the balls it took for 14/16 year old girls to perform kawaii metal at the biggest metal festival in England (watch the whole 30 minute set of their performance at the Sonisphere Festival of 2014 to find out how it turned out). Also, you'll enjoy a wider range of music. Some people say that women can't sing metal, unless they sing low and growl like men... (not saying YOU are saying that, it's just an example). Those people will never enjoy Jinjer or Nightwish, for instance... Or the amazing array of all-female Japanese metal/hard rock bands... Finally, it seems this is your first real live video (Distortion is an MV and Gimme Chocolate is a mixed bag...). Try some real live performance, crowd participation is always encouraged, and in some cases it is really epic, the most epic, I think, is Road of Resistance (Live in Japan). Kitsune up, Po!

Good reaction again - and nobody can ask for more than an honest reaction. It's good you heard that something in Su-metal's voice this time that the rest of us hear every time she sings, she really is a special talent. It is no coincidence that she was the inspiration for the idea of BABYMETAL and it was no accident that the whole thing was built and developed around her. On the new album she has really stretched her talents and taken on some very different vocal styles and techniques - and she masters every single one of them. 'Rondo of Nightmare' (with 'The Mischiefs of the Metal Gods' intro) is a great suggestion for your next reaction as it showcases the talents of the Kami Band, but it is also one of Su's solo songs that really allows her to show her vocals off. It will also be a little less 'weird' for you as there is no choreo to get your head round and it isn't metal + Jpop, just the music and Su singing a metal song in her own clear style. I do have another suggestion for another reaction video. This is a song with all 3 girls that I think you would enjoy and that might help you come to terms with what makes them special and unique as it showcases all the elements of the truly energetic Jpop type of performance with Yui and Moa leading the audience, getting the crowd fully involved and immersed plus some great vocals and stage presence from Su and the Kami Band playing good, fast heavy metal instrumentation. This song and performance bring all the elements together into a perfect whole thing. It is from Legend 1997 (Su's 16th birthday celebration show filmed in December 2013) and the song is 'Headbanger!' kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h6ujgsR-x7Sqp6s.html

@@DannymikReacts Thanks for your reply - and I'm sure nobody wants you to sugarcoat anything. If anything it is far better to watch your progression as you notice those things that make a band special or unique (both in Babymetal's case, but that is just my opinion) bit by bit that the rest of us noticed at the same stage you are at. As we can't watch them or listen to the songs for the first time again, we are basically reliving what we experienced through you and other reactors doing the same now as we did whenever it was we first heard them. "Desu" is a form of introducing someone or something. For example, you would say to a Japanese person that you meet : "Hi, DannymikReacts desu" which would roughly translate to : "Hi, I am DannymikReacts" or "Hi, this is DannymikReacts". They used this song as an introduction to their shows. The lyrics just say "Su-Metal desu", "YUIMETAL desu" and so on. But it sounds more metal to say "DEATH" obviously :). The crowd then spells in unisson with the girls "B A B Y M E T A L". I tell you this because it's hard to catch at first listen. I'm glad Su's vocals are growing on you. After Rondo you may even elevate your opinion again ;).

Being a metal head for such a long time i was super confused and unsure on BM when i first heard them. I listened to a couple songs feeling unsure about it. But the more i listened the more i started to appreciate the fusion of genres and what they are trying to achieve. But what really sold me was their live performances, it is where you see every aspect of them shine from the Kami band to Su's amazing stage presence and vocals to Moa and Yui doing flawless back up and choreography for entire shows. They truly are talented and if you want to see some more stand out performances I agree with the other comments of Road of Resistance, Rondo of nightmare and if you're okay with just hearing a beautiful rocky/power ballad where Su shines above and beyond No Rain, no rainbow live in Hiroshima is amazing. I think its also worthy to check out some videos such as Onedari Daisakusen or GJ to see the 2 girls rocking out with their "black babymetal" songs, unfortunately that no longer exists since Yui's departure but very fun to watch and see them shine a little back in the day. Thank you for the vid, love seeing people remain open minded to BM rather then pigeon hole metal and say they're nothing more then a gimmick etc. Look forward to the next reaction :)

I'm 71 yo and have heard just about ever style and version of rock. As to Heavy Metal old men screaming with a band that is more loud than good doesn't cut it for me. Babymetal is a band with highly skilled musicians fronted by 3 highly talented girls. Suzuka is an exceptional singer that can cut through metal music and with Moa and now the Avengers makes the concert experience far better than the "normal" metal band. If you think that bass player is out of control, watch Flea when he played on stage with them! My personal favorite early MV is "Megitsune" (official), but I include a test for reactors. What you have trouble with is what I find appealing about them. I am a Boomer. I do not like today's music. It seems stale for the last 30 years. I normally do not listen to anything after 1989 if I can help it. I lived through the 60s where the music was changing and we were always getting something unexpected. Babymetal brings me back to those times. Getting something unexpected is not just from song to song. It happens within the song. It can go from poppy to dark. Start slow than speed up. Stop is the middle of the song and go on the another direction. Some of that is found in Headbanger. It is the song that got me hooked. I recommend that one. It is expected at every concert now.

To me the whole "talent or gimmick" thing makes no sense, because the answer for most metal bands is both. What other genre has embraced gimmicks and stage production/theatrics more than metal? From Kiss to Twisted Sister to Slipknot to Gwar to Nightwish, they're all some combo of the two

Agree! Karate was the first song that kind of spoke to me. Suzuka was a talent from early on, and was in a Group named Karens Girls from 8 or something? Might be wrong. When the band split she went to Sakura Gakuin which is this talent School/reality thing where she met Moa and Yui who was a big Karens Girl fan. From early on they heard Su had a very powerful voice for her age, and one of the leaders/managers deicided to make a metal Group around her. Which is not very common since the concept usually comes before.

Hello @andreas pedersen! Appreciate the information. Some are not happy that I don't LOVE this band (yet). I don't want to sugarcoat how I feel but I also want to point out the progression that's happening (after 3 songs). The "pop" harmonies is where I'm struggling here; Su's vocals are honestly clicking in my head and I'm enjoying them. I might be hard headed but being honest is what a reaction should be. Rondo of Nightmare is where I'm headed next (just so you know). After that there's a good 3-4 that are on the list. Songs like Akatsuki, Road of Resistance, & ljime, Dame, Zettai are on that list as well. Thank you for the view and comment... Happy Monday to you! "It's different" is honest, as you say, but most peoeple have a "WTF?...uh...uh...I'm not sure if this works, I'm not sure if I like it or not, etc, etc" moment on first seeing Babymetal. It's often - but not always - followed by "I love them!". I'm 58, went to see Sabbath live in 1976, Zeppelin in 79, Floyd in 89, etc and am feeling very excited because I'm going to see BABYMETAL in Feb, here in my home city of Cardiff, Wales! Su Metal's voice is stunning (it's gotta be good to get above the amazing Kami band!). She puts her heart into all the songs and has evolved over the years to be well deserving of the title of Queen of Metal. Here's a fairly recent song (2018) showcasing her talents solo, with a sad and beautiful ballad (worth checking out the lyrics, which are poetically soulful) - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pqqXpNJny8nQmY0.html . Nice to see an honest reaction for once. Their 'heaviest song is probably 'Headbanger' especially the live versions. Also, worth seeing the reaction of 65,000 metal fans at Sonisphere after their first appearance. Their finale with the song Ijime, Dame, Zettai sold them to every fan there! Look forward to seing more of your reactions to LIVE Babymetal, cos it's the best way to see them.

The thing to remember is that these girls knew nothing about metal when they started this band. Since beginning they have been learning more the history of metal and the different aspects of the corners of the genre. So when you listen to them, it's almost becomes like a love song to the history of metal. Though not the greatest clip ever, it's cool to check out their live performance with Rob Halford from Judas Priest.

Good reaction. There's a couple of hurdles that western (US) music listeners have to overcome when first encountering Japanese rock/metal; language, cultural difference, style. Since rock/metal is primarily western in nature, most of countries have listened to English rock and adapted it to their musical heritage. Over time, listening to Japanese language begins to fade, it just becomes part of the music. Cultural differences are harder to overcome, but I think the main difference is that the Japanese have an attitude about mixing/mashing styles that we don't have - they seem more willing to experiment, try just about anything (early Ladybaby is a good example). Style is similar to us, but they seem to have an attitude about the technical aspects of striving for perfection - "do your best" is (at least it seems to me) to be one of their guiding principals. I'm old enough to remember listening to the beginnings of rock back in the 50's and over time have listened to all the genres. For me some types come off better than others, but when I discovered Japanese hard rock and metal (first Babymetal, then Band-Maid), it opened a new door for me. My guiding principal is to just embrace it, change is good. Babymetal is that way for me, at first a bit odd, but later applauding what they do and now fully supporting their music. Someone commented once "when was the last time you listening to metal with a silly grin". Their music is joyous.

Syncopation Live .. the band is incredible .. and Su is an incredible vocalist … I first saw them on late night with Steven Colbert and I was wtf I never seen anything like this so get on youtube and start seeing this huge live shows and find out they are for real .. I do love whole lot of their songs .. but also for me what is so intriguing is watching this journey they are on since they were little teenager and where it goes .. now they are adults and doing a world tour and the music is legit as a musician what grabbed my attention most at first was the kami band then seeing how professional the girls are .. its just amazing somehow it all works … Tc D

Suzuka have a very powerful voice but only a few songs let her voice "shines" But if maybe the problem is because a lot of metal vocalist have a more low register, like a tenor maybe you must try to see babymetal playing "Breaking the Law" and "Painkiller" with Rob Halford. Yeop, Rob Halford, Judas Priest´s vocalist sing with them once, and Rob was very happy to do it. And if Halford put his seal of "this is metal" who am i to say anything else?

@@DannymikReacts Don´t even try to do it Babymetal is a very strange "band" (not really a band) and have a very particular style. They do a lot of different fusions and touch almost all metal forms. They have from very poppy songs with lots of "j-pop" inside to themes were they simulate a crucifixion on stage. They do mixes with rap, indian "bollywood" music, disco... It´s something a little strange. Of course all with the back band doing the work flawless but it´s something different. You can like or dislike, there´s no more about this. In my humble opinion, some of the best themes can be Rondo of Nightmare, Akatsuki (really a masterpiece) and if wanna try a power metal ballad "No Rain no Rainbow" The last CD have some very hard themes, more "metal" like "distorsion" and others. Maybe "In the Name of" is also a very classical piece. Beside this, more themes are experimental fusions

The songs you are headed to are very, very good and also very popular to react to (understandably!).....AMORE does not often get reacted to, but it is always a joy for me to see it done. Hard rocking, SuMetal solo (in the vein of Akatsuki, which you have coming up). Appreciate you reaching out, and keep up the great, and honest, reactions!

If you do Papaya, just know that that's a "summer festival, party song". There are way better songs from the new album that might impress your tastes a little more. Brand New Day with Polyphia's guitarists as guests. The Indian inspired Shanti Shanti Shanti. The beautiful heavy ballad Shine. Or the totally out-of-left-field shocker BxMxC. That's the thing about Babymetal. Every single song is different. Different genre. Different style. Different global flavor. I mean... they even do a program metal masterpiece homage to Dream Theater called Tales of the Destinies. You should really check that one out btw. It's pretty amazing. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gLeUlcd1lr6dfok.html

Hello @Aldo Metal! Lots to consider here. Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays (if you celebrate this time of the year) 🙌👏☺

I'm the opposite. I'm currently into K-Pop when I watched my first BabyMetal's video - this one! I liked it a lot ..except the metal background. I wanted to see what other reactors were saying about this video. So, the more I re-watched it, the more I got 'acclimatized' to the metal background. BUT, it's still a struggle for me to listen to their other songs with heavier metal in it. The clashing, everything goes background music (as in metal) gives me a headache - which goes away when I stop watching... I'm glad that you're beginning to 'like' their music. =)

You have discovered the key to entertainment...when you lose the elitist bullshit, you can finally start enjoying the music for what it is, instead of trying to put it into some genre compartment. Japanese rock is kicking US/UK/EU rocks ass...and I say that as a former lead singer and bassist who has been making tunes for money since 1966. Peace...and keep groovin' on what makes you happy.

For a metal head the best Babymetal song to watch is Road of Resistance. Babymetal are one of a kind and are different with every song they do. If your find it hard to get yor head around this, then don't try Broken By The Scream - koi ha otome no daidokoro. If your willing there are a lot of other really good Japanese metal bands out there for you to react to: Unlucky Morpheus - Black Pentagram The Gazette - Ugly Yuzukingdom - Eyes Shut Tightly Mary's Blood - Marionette Lovebites - Shadowmaker The list could go on, but that should get you going. They are all different styles and as I said really good.

I shouldn't really worry about not loving Babymetal. The majority of fans understand that they are not every one's taste. So do not think to much about it. Babymetal can be a lot for a metal head to take in, because they are nearly everthing that shouldn't be about a metal band, well what I mean is they have things about them that we are told a metal head should not like, the pop element, the dancing. I have even had people say thay don't like them because they do not sing in English, then you find out they are big fans of Rammstien, who only sing in German, with out them understanding German. So yes there are a lot of things that make Babymetal wrong to a metal head.
