@Sadgasm I can appreciate your opinion, and they are definitely not for everyone. But if playing guitar and writing your own lyrics is a requirement for being metal, Ozzy would like to have a word with you. :) Moa and Yui can both play guitar, although that's not what they do for Babymetal, and wrote lyrics and contribute to the song making process. No they are not master song writers. No they are not master guitarists. But what they are is entertaining, very hard working, and humble, and don't pretend to be Metallica. They self admit they are making their own way, and are a great gateway band.

I really don't get the controversy around Babymetal. If you don't like them, that's fine, move on. It isn't a reflection on you as a person, it isn't a badge of honour, it doesn't make you special or unique. It just means that at the end of the day there's one less thing out there you can get enjoyment from, and the only person who loses out is you. Edit - I'm using "you" generally here, I'm not directing this at anyone specifically

@Sadgasm don't try to be so edgy please, you just make yourself looks like an idiot. if you don't like the band and only want express your opinion, fine. everyone entitled to their own opinion. But you don't have to insult other people, who genuinely likes them, as a bot who likes every song just because they don't have the same taste as you. well, unless you're just a kid (or an adult with kid-level maturity) who want to looks edgy or seeks attention... please no, i'm sure you're not.

this is the best live version of this song to me. some info. their set was delayed like 45 minutes because of rain. everyone stayed in the rain to see them. there is even a picture of Koba-metal, the founder of Babymetal, actually sweeping up the water on stage. he was doing it because he cared for them. Glastonbury is not metal. so people there didn't know what to do.
@Auron710

yeh i think withing the last decade if not before, glastonbury is fast becoming a bit of a poser festival and its always been full of pop music anyways but its seeming like one of those american festivals these days where people go to hang out and have instagram photos to show how cool they were being there but theyr not really interested in the music. I do think its because pop acts arent really for performing live anyway if you compare them to bands that write and tour their own stuff etc. metal and rock is more a place where people know more of your album and not just ur singles cus theyr fans of music, not just the charts and what radios play in shops. I think metal crowds would give a great welcome to babymetal and its cool to see they tour with the chili peppers a lot ^^

It should be noted that the thumbnail used for this video is a scene from one of the most famous incidents in BabyMetal history. At an awards show BabyMetal performed Karate and then Rob Halford of Judas Priest came out and they ripped right into Painkiller. Then history was made. Yui and Moa played guitar while Su and Rob sang Breaking The Law. It was the first and only time Yui and Moa played guitar together in a show and the performance absolutely rocked.

"Even if tears spill from our eyes, we will face it! Single mindedly, seiya soiya, we will fight on. With our fists more, with our hearts more, while keening all our skills. Still more, seiya soiya, we will fight on, even if our spirits are broken and we can no longer stand." Hi Drew, good reaction! That squealing note that you like is called a "pinch harmonic". I think BABYMETAL played Glastonbury probably because Su-Metal (lead singer) wanted to. She said in a few interviews after they played there that they know it's not really a metal festival, but it was one of her dreams to play there. The song the BBC put on youtube from Glasto was PA PA YA so you probably did a reaction to it? It was early in the set, and yes a lot of people were just confused by the music, however towards the end of the set.... there were moshpits... at Glastonbury. Live is definitely the way to go for experiencing BABYMETAL. They consider themselves performers more than recording artists. If you do more, and I would recommend you do, then you should always go for live performances!

That hand sign at the end was the fox god sign. I was in the crowd at this performance, in the second row. The crowd response was as good as it was coz we'd been standing in the rain for hours and most performances has been on late coz they literally were sweeping buckets full of rain off of the stage. I legit couldn't see for shit coz of the weather covering my glasses and I was stood on one foot for most of their set coz of the moshing being so mad :-)

That guitar thing is pinch harmonics or false harmonics and it's made by the guitarist picking the string with the pick and in the same stroke silencing the string with the edge of the thumb holding the pick which takes the pitch of that note up a few octaves, then the guitarist simply bends the note higher for style. Dimebag and Zakk Wylde are known for it.
@watcher2554
@watcher2554 4 жыл бұрын
That squeal you like is a pinch harmonic. When you pick the string, let your finger just touch it. It causes a muted resonance that, when combined with a high distortion setting, gives you that squeal. Thanks for the reaction! Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!

Bit of background to this performance. 5/10 minutes before they were due on the heavens opened and there was a torrential rain storm. You would not be able to tell but all those fans were soaked through, their performance was delayed by 20/30 mins because the stage was too wet for them to perform on, so we saw loads of people with mops and towels to try and clear the stage of water so they could do their performance. Safe to say they didn't disappoint!

I think the people @ Glastonbury would like to have a wider range, they did have Metallica play there in 2014, and I think Babymetal di it because it was Glastonbury, something you don't turn down when asked, when you want to get in to the world scene. You should try ijime dame zettai live at Sonisphere, it was Babymetal's 1st UK appearance, to a crowd of metal heads, most of whom, didn't have a clue who they were.

That little squeal is called a pinch harmonic. basically if you lightly out your finger over a certain spot on theguitar string you willplay a harmonic of the string which is a hihger note than the string. really good guitarists can hit the string with the fleshy part of the thumb and hit a harmonic anywhere on the string. Its not easy but when its done well it sounds great.

You are right, Download is more of a Metal festival, and BABYMETAL do have a bit of history with that festival. I think they love Download and Download loves them. Nevertheless I don‘t think Glastonbury was a bad decision, I‘m sure they made quite a few new fans there. Even if the crowd was nothing to write home about, they did warm up a bit towards the end, and BABYMETAL got some good reviews afterwards. One of their specific aims is to introduce Metal to a new audience, and I think they succeeded at that at Glastonbury. I like this performance of Karate a lot, the crowd interaction was fun, Su‘s „hashire“ at the end gives me chills every time, and even the rain added a little something to the atmosphere.

Lol I remember finding your channel during Blackpink's comeback and now the algorithm has brought me back for Babymetal. Amazing! 😂 Drew! If you're gonna stick with their live shows please for the love of The Fox God react to: 1. Rondo Of Nightmare (Mischiefs of God Intro) - every single Babymetal fan will respectively demand this!!! You will find out why we all request it! 2. Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Sonisphere UK 2014) - from what I've gathered IDZ is the catalyst that threw Babymetal into the Western starlight. After this performance, world domination was underway!! 3. THE ONE (Official) - I highly highly *highly* recommend saving this beautiful performance for last. It brings everything about Babymetal; Su, Moa, Yui ,Kami Band, and us Kistunes into One big ass family! Literally brings tears to my eyes. If you wanna go deeper into the Fox Hole, check these out, no order: 1. Akasuki BLACK NIGHT - Su's other epic solo, her voice carries!! So emotional tbh 😭 2. Catch Me If You Can Live (Makuhari Messe) - PLEASE DO NOT react to the Live Compilation version that has more views. The Makuhari one is complete and has the best video quality and crowd interaction plus The Kami Band gets a dope intro! 3. Syncopation - just epic, Japan-release only song! 4. Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai (Answer for Animation With You) - another great cover song that was Japan release only 5. BABYMETAL DEATH Legend 1997 (Complete) - haters say BM isn't metal, just show em this show (context: this was to celebrate Su's 16th birthday) Thank you! 🦊🤘🏽🍅

I would suggest that you do some research on the lyrics and meaning of their songs. They are quite deep and deal with many current social issues. This is definitely NOT just cute pop mixed with metal. It's much more complex than that, not least because of the variety of songs that are all different from each other. The music mixes and layers a variety of music scales from traditional Japanese Yo scale (a type of pentatonic scale), diatonic, traditional Asian achromatic, as well as the common chromatic scales. Given that Su-metal has been professionally trained and performing since the age of 8, she nails all off these complex melodies perfectly and despite her youth has an incredibly sophisticated, mature vocal range. BTW, I am a uni prof and teach about Kawai metal, J-Pop, K-Pop and other current trends in popular music.

Welcome back Mate! I was wonderin' if you were going to dedicate your channel to Tool! Lol. I love me some Tool, and Undertow is one of my top favorite albums. About your question about the hand sign... the Babymetal \v/ sign is called The Fox Sign. It's a salute, and also a clear message of support to the girls during their live shows. The Fox sign also ties into Babymetal's mythos that the girls, and the Kami band are the chosen ones of the **Fox God**. It is Babymetal's divine task to unleash their Metal Resistance and brand of Heavy Metal to the world, and the galaxy. By their definition Babymetal means a new style of Heavy Metal, not that they babies or children - which of course they were - but it's their Misson Statement, not ours! Bring on more Babymetal! It’s a fan made video of clips of BabyMetal/Sakura Gakuin (the idol group that formed BabyMetal) and or soundtracks brilliantly edited together with movie and video clips. There is a clip you may search out that has BabyMetal with one of the Metal Gods at a award show in Cleveland, Ohio. This is just a fun and random video and even Captain Jack Sparrow wants to see Yui. You won’t see or hear a complete song, but it’s fun to watch. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qZ-mgqqZ2LqUkok.html P.S. Their best live videos are from the Japan stadiums, even the Papaya, don't react to it since you have already but watch the japan video is much better crowd reaction.

Say Drew why do you have a screen shot from when the girls played Painkiller with Rob Halford (Yui and Moa played the guitar) as the thumbnail for this react🤔🤔

Every metal head I know that isn't an insecure, wannabe tough guy loves Baby Metal. Not that it's what they listen to on their own time, but they appreciate the musicianship of the band and the fun, and frankly humor of what they bring.

Nice reaction definitely a difference between Download and Glastonbury. The acts headlining where Stormzy, Karlie Minogue lot of hipsters in the audience. Who buys tickets withòut knowing who is performing . The thing is they got a lot of fans from that performance . 🤘😀🤘

That guitar noise is likely an octave-effect pedal paired with a wahwah pedal that varies the pitch. There's no specific name for it as it's pretty idiosyncratic, but Tom Morello from RATM does it all the time.

Whether they're metal or not is besides the point. They're entertaining as fuck! Is it pop? Is it metal? Who cares? It's its own thing. It's something new and it's entertaining. And isn't that what music is all about? Being entertained? You've got heavy guitars and blast beats, EDM, Techno, Rap, Prog, Indian, Latin, and everything in between mixed all together into an entertaining stew of sounds. Is it metal? Not really. Is it pop? Not that either. So what is it? It's Babymetal! Shut up and have fun!😉

they have a bunch of great songs, and it was like your record was stuck on 4 tracks. 😂 and don't watch the clips. The best are compilations of live performances in Japan.

This is a great performance (or "pahomance" as Moa calls it) is awesome but the sound quality is sooo bad (not your fault, it's the original vid). Nice vid! Glastonbury was a pop fest and Babymetal was added AFTER tickets were sold out so very few fans were there, and most were new listeners just trying to figure out WTF was going on!

"fo" is not really a sound that's native to japanese. the sound is transcribed as "フォ", which is literally just "フ" (fu) with a miniature "オ" (o) set next to it. not all japanese people are comfortable even trying to make that sound, and it's not uncommon for it to be "simplified" to "ホ" (ho).

Glastonbury was a shitshow. The mix was way off. One of the bass drums, Su's mic, even the guitars were either off, or too low. Glastonbury 2019: Kylie Minogue, The Cure, Miley Cyrus, Sheryl Crow, Carrie Underwood, and Lauren Hill, etc. Download 2016: Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Korn, Amon Amarth, Disturbed, etc. So Download was going to be more receptive to BABYMETAL than Glastonbury. Download is meat & beer. Glastonbury is qinoa & Zima.

Yeah, that squeel is pinch harmonics Metal music and World Metal is growing around the globe and Babymetal and a few other metal bands were invited is really recognition of that. You can go to Mongolia or Indonesia and and find metal bands. Glastonbury wants to stay relevant, Babymetal wants new fans, so they play. The reaction will be better next time at Glastonbury. It takes time to process the first time you hear them.

Hi Drew! Glad to see you re-visit Babymetal! Give a listen to "Catch me if you Can" - vimeo.com/313465929. This version is probably the best in terms of video and sound quality. Keep up the good work....and have a Happy New Year!

Pinch harmonics! It's pinching the string and muting it just enough with your thumb to get that screech. A band that are masters at it, especially live, is Killswitch Engage.
