Glad to see you loving this incredible band. I'd imagine the huge amount of requests for 'Thrill' were for you to watch the MV from 8 years ago which brought them to the attention of a wider audience. But this live version from one of their online concerts last year is a fine choice too, especially as they hadn't performed the song live very often. Only another 100+ Band-Maid songs to react to! My recommendation would be to try...hmmm...I'd have to say...their entire back catalogue and anything they make in the future.

About the "Battle Gear" the Maids wear (at least from what I've gleened over the past year.) Saiki (Lead Vocal, THE Queen) is dressed in a Spanish style maid outfit. Misa (Bass. The Barefoot Assassin) is dressed in a Chinese style maid outfit, but....she's an assassin...so... ??? Next Band-Maid reaction? Doesn't matter. It's ALL golden but "Onset" would be a good one. Band-maid are one of those rare bands where the lead guitar player is actually the bass player. Misa is a truly great bass player.

You enthusiasm is infectious and so relatable. "Where has Band-Maid been all my life?!" A good next song is Play. It was played right before the Domination Live performance (you can hear its outro in the beginning of Domination), and is absolute killer! For another fantastic Japanese band/song: Hanabie - We love sweets. I can guarantee you that you will have your mind blown already in the first 15 seconds

When they started, Misa and Saiki wore maid costumes. The both of them decided to wear an alternative maid costume. Misa called her outfit Assassin Maid. Since she goes on stage barefoot, she's called the barefoot assassin since she slays the base. Saiki decided to wear a dress more suited for a diva. I call her dress Diva Maid. While they play quite a bit of hard rock, they also do rock ballads. You should check out "Daydreaming" a rock ballad with a killer guitar solo. It shows the absolute talent and versatility of these young women.

ONSET (Live) - it got me playing Bass again. A masterpiece and an Instrumental. Lost count how many times I have listened to it, but you can still hear more each time and pick out the individual instruments. Sooo good.

Glad to see you back on Band-Maid. I would suggest that you react to "Alone" (the first published song written entirely by them and allowing them freedom to write all their music from that point on) or Moritorium (BIG BANGER) (official live version). You will never be disappointed in any of their 100+ songs. You havent seen anything yet. They are in a genre all to themselves and cant be compared to any band, let alone any Japanese band. All other bands, you basically know what they will do or sound like but Band Maid is always a great surprise.

You GOT Game buddy. Band-Maid is the most consistent Rock band anywhere. Playing, writing and performing at the highest level of great music for 9 years now. Even their online concerts without an audience of their fans are fantastic. MISA is the most forefront bassist I've ever heard. Every song. Playing lead bass in her bare feet? WTF. Five incredibly talented ladies make BAND-MAID the most Awesome Rock band you'll find anywhere. Try ONSET-LIVE which is an instrumental to top all Rock instrumentals. Keep it going. Peace.

The one who worked at the Maid Cafe was Miku (rhythm guitar, harmony vocal). It was her idea to put together a "band of maids". Akane (drummer) and Kanami (lead guitar) were on board with it. Saiki (lead vocal) and Misa (bass)....not so much. But they went along with it at first. As time progressed, Miku allowed them to have their own input on their costume designs. Huge fan of Nemophila! Looking forward to that reaction! You also might like Rolling Quartz. They're sort of a Korean version of Band Maid. My favorite song of theirs is "Azalea". Cheers!

Great reaction like always. If you want a really good solo intro from BabyMetal, check the song: Rondo of Nightmare (w/ Mischiefs of Metal Gods Intro)-LIVE at Budokan Black Night (HQ). This intro is crazy and the song is a SU-Metal solo song. In this one we can really apreciate her beautyfull voice. Am sure this song and this Intro will blow your mind :)

Originally they were all in maid uniforms (see original Thrill music video), but MISA quickly dropped the maid outfit. MISA went to an all-black dress that the other girls dubbed the 'assassin maid dress' probably because it reminded them of ninjas in movies. What is funny is that one of the words used for assassin in Japanese is 殺し屋 which sounds like Croatia, so many BAND-MAID fans incorrectly thought she was wearing a Croatian maid uniform. She now normally wears a black Chinese-style dress, which is a black version of a popular style of dress in Japan. Saiki also switched to wearing black dresses after Thrill, however, her early dresses had elements of maid uniforms such as an apron or French maid style lacing, but her dresses moved further and further from maid style, her latest dress has some Spanish elements to it so fans have called it a "Spanish maid outfit", however, actual Spanish maids don't wear anything close to that. The rest have stuck with maid outfits although they change frequently, Kanami, for example, has moved to much longer skirts for a more modest look.

A couple other bands to check out from Japan. Nemophila and Wagakki Band. You won't be disappointed with those either. Nemophila is another powerhouse female heavy metal band with a different flare than either Lovebites or Band Maid. Better to go into Wagakki Band pretty blind. You'll be pleasantly surprised by their sound.

Thrill mv was actually their first music video. It went viral in the U. S. And this is what actually saved the band. Without Thrill there would be no Band-Maid. They definitely got better though. You should really watch the Dice MV and Real Existence Official live.

About Saiki and MISA not wearing maid outfits: they didn't really want to wear maid outfits so over time they developed their own style.

Yes! Thrill hooked me into Band-Maid. I love the grungy sound of the guitars. Speaking of grungy sound, Moritorium would be a great choice if you can find the video. The bridge has a great southern rock feel... almost Soundgarden like. The chorus also uses the phrase "dilly-dally" which you don't hear very often now-a-days. You can also go the instrumental route and react to Onset and Without Holding Back. Those songs will not disappoint. Another Japanese rock band you might want to "experience" is Maximum the Hormone. They will blow your mind as they play whatever they want... but make it sound awesome. You will definitely be left scratching your head confused but wanting more. Thrash metal, hard-core punk, mixed with commercial jingles and catchy EDM.

My understanding of the bands formation. The rhythm guitar player Miku started the band. She was the singer, she did not play guitar. They decided to add another singer, and found Saiki. She of course is awesome and became the lead singer. Then Miku decided to start guitar. She became the rhythm guitar player at that time. 2 of the others knew each other from music school.

As far as Band-Maid songs that are on KZfaq, I would check out Awkward, Non Fiction Days & for something softer: About Us. Still my current favorite is a hard to find song called: "matchless GUM". Not only are they insanely talented, but they are so diverse in their styles of songs that they create! Please Enjoy!

Band Maid Info Dump Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku contacted her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her. Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. Now we have the "Core" members. I'm not too sure about the part but if I am wrong other Maidiacs will correct me in the comments. The 4 members worked out some songs and a setlist and from my understanding, they had actually performed 2 or 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. I may be wrong on that so don't take that as canon. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. (I'm not sure about this part as I can't find the comment I read over on Reddit) She had been a member of a group with 8 other people and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool Clothes", and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until I believe it was 2 days before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which only charted to #26 in Japan. Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album hadn't even charted, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their KZfaq channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid.

Initially they all wore similar maid outfits. Now, Saiki (lead vocal) and MISA (bass) wear all black outfits. Saiki's outfit is called the queen/gothic maid outfit. MISA calls her outfit as a China-ish maid outfit, but Miku (red rose/band founder) calls it as an assassin style outfit (fans call MISA as a barefoot assassin).

I discovered Band-Maid with the Thrill MV. I watched with my jaw gradually falling further to the floor. Then the slap bass hit. I was all in at that moment.

I would recommend reacting to the video for the 2 songs in one 'Manners' which has a bit of a CLUTCH vibe, and then 'Black Hole' which is like nothing on earth and shows the more extreme side of the band and is mindblowingly awesome.

What makes Band-Maid different from other J-rock bands is Saiki. Because she can sing in a lower octave she's able to add grit to her voice like all the great R&B female singers. I don't know of another J-rock/pop singer who has her range

Greetings from Germany... I know exactly how you feel, i discovered them via KZfaq and first i was like: maid-outfits? japanese? WHY is this in my recommendations? Oh boy, i am so thankul i am not THAT narrow-minded and gave it a listen... I am an total maidiac now for round about 3 years and they are the reason that music is still a part of my life. I was listening to totally other stuff for round about a decade (DnB), because rock and metal music was dull, not enjoyable and always the same, at least for me... I hear Band-Maid daily, my wife accepts it, but it took a long time, she always thought it was because they are cute etc., but realized that it is all about their music and they are the most talented group by far i have ever experienced, especially Kanami (lead guitar, main composer) is an genius without limits, she does not care about genres, does not shy away to try new things, gives every member an spot to shine in their songs and is SO creative and all of them are on an INSANE level! Have a nice week everyone and yeah... You can take any song, they have 120+ songs and they are all GREAT!

This song is the opening song for their album New Beginning. The next one is FREEZER, which is even more heavy. Another "must to listen on" from this album is Shake That. As many have said, whether it's Onset or not, can't go wrong with any selection; they are just all good. Hey, Sir! Live Maids are always the best Maids. I'm not sure about the UK, but they're actually coming to the US in the fall, and I'm SO GOING!! (Houston show) Last year, they had a big show get canceled (you understand), so instead they held a streamed show, and then started releasing those songs in pairs. So if you want a broader picture of what the Maids can do, check out "Manners / Black Hole". One is groooovy, one is *insane*. Oh yeah - do it. And Rock on, Sir!! 🤘😎👍

Great reaction! You're passion and sincerity really shine through. The first time I heard them was Feb 2021 and they have since become my 2nd favourite all time band behind Led Zep. What separates them from most other bands is their diversity. They're essentially a hard rock band who can easily transition into other genres. In essence they've created a new genre simply known as Bandmaid. I suggest you stay with live performances for a little while longer. Try Play and Freedom from the same concert as Domination. From 2018, try Real Existence ( a banger!) or Onset ( a hard rock instrumental classic). Only 100 plus more to go after that. I'm looking forward to more BM reactions.

Welcome to the world of japanes all female bands. Band-Maid is one of the best band in my opinion they are soo talented, I'm glad u like them. The live version of Freedom has a great drum solo in it, that makes me smile every time I'm listenig or watching it. There is just too much band, but If u want some heavy stuff I'm suggesting Ignite by Bridear, sadly they are not that popular, but they make some really good stuff.

SAI_CHAN's vocals have evolved dramatically.　 If you listen to her early live performance of "THRILL", you will understand. It's a wonderful evolution. It is the result of her hard work and physical improvement.

This is the band that saved rock music for me thanks to a KZfaq recommendation about six years ago. Imo they are the best rock band of my lifetime (51 years old). Some other bands you should check out are Nemophila, Wagakki Band, Gacharic Spin, and Doll$Boxx. I found Doll$Boxx the same day I found Band-Maid, then Gacharic Spin (Doll$Boxx are actually a side project of them), and Wagakki Band a few years later. Recommended videos to start with: Take My Chance by Doll$Boxx (I'd do the official MV first), Homura + Akatsuki no Ito by Wagakki Band, MindSet By Gacharic Spin, and Revive by Nemophila. If you want some great classic metal, I'd add Heartless Scat by Ningen Isu to the list.

Actually, BAND-MAID consider themselves to be Hard Rock, but they have many influences, Metal just being one of them. Punk, Funk, Power Pop and Jazz to name a few. If you're a Hard Core Maidiac when you run out of KZfaq videos you'll have to go to the Chinese site Bilibili. That's where all of the videos that were taken down ahead of a DVD release. There are great versions in the Zepp Tokyo LIVE concert, including Bass and Guitar Call & Response "Battles". Don't forget to check out their April Fools Day videos as BAND-MAIKO. I love this version of the song its "dirtier" sounding & i love it. Anything is great. My fav song is Onset or Daydreaming. Imagine a power ballad by U2 but only better. Onset just melts your face. Keep up the reactions. :)
