When I met my husband I had gotten out of a abusive relationship. I was still getting threats. I only wanted to be friends. One day he sat me down and said, This song can say what I need you to know better than I can. I cried so hard. I realized I was making him pay for a crime he hadn't committed.

So timeless, creative, wonderful study of the human condition. The genius of Billy Joel. What a gift he is. Only human is good To all though popish. You won't find a bad Billy Joel song.

this song is underrated, it's really awesome! It holds up the test of time, could have been recorded today or approx 40 years ago (like it was). True artist this Billy Joel. thanks for reacting to this gem. P.S. I also like "when the night is still young" by him, another underrated song of it's time.

The album was a fusion of two of his biggest influences growing up, The Four Seasons and MoTown. The intricate harmonies, mixing of r&b, soul and rock all in a stunning collection of songs that would have won the grammy if Thriller came out in any other year.

Billy purposely made this song in the style of The Drifters, you can hear that in the bass line and finger snaps. A fantastic album, not a bad song in sight. 🔥

This is by far my favorite Billy Joel song. I love the lyrics from start to finish, especially the couplets that come right before the chorus. eg. Although this is a fight I can lose, the accused is an innocent man.

Billy Joel is a Tropical Taurus but is a Sidereal Aires. You are a Tropical Libra and a Sidereal Libra. Music gives you a chance to explore mundane relationdhips whether be it in a marrisge, in a shop, cutting your hair, going to yhe beach with ftiends etc. Billy Joel becsuse of his sign combination, he id at home both in love ballads and songs with a strong beat signified by Sidereal Aires ruled by Mars.

Thanks to Jami A, Harri is getting a great sampling of the scope and magnitude of Billy Joel’s genius! And I get to revisit so many great songs I haven’t listened to in many years. The rest of the Harribest family gets to enjoy all of this regardless of whether this material is new or old or foreign or familiar to them. Harri, this is why yours is the best channel for music appreciation. 🌺✌️

I thought that this song was genius when I bought the album back in the day. So great to watch someone who appreciates it the way I do - deep lyrics and beautiful melody, and a great arrangement. The whole album is a nod to his musical influences. Deserves a listen in one long go.

Billy Joel is such a great singer-songwriter from the 70's-90's. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. The whole "An Innocent Man" album has lots of great songs on it such as "Tell Her About It", "The Longest Time", "Leave A Tender Moment Alone", "Keeping The Faith", "This Night", "Uptown Girl" etc. My favorite album is "The Stranger" album. All the songs on it are great too.

Great song choice, great request! Billy Joel paid homage to The Drifters when he wrote and recorded this one! You have to keep on reacting to Billy Joel, Harri, at least until you get to "Until The Night"! And you don't need to tell us you are an innocent man, Harri - we have no doubt!

You nailed it. Joel wrote this song specifically in homage to and in the style of Ben E. King and also the Drifters.
@chrisoakley58302 жыл бұрын
The reason that this reminds you of music from the 1960s is because that's the music Billy grew up listening to. In many of his hits from the 1980s he purposely pays homage to his musical heroes.
@seanscanlon90672 жыл бұрын
The whole An Innocent Man album was a homage to the music Billy grew up listening to from the 50s and 60s and this song was in the style of and a tribute to Ben E. King and The Drifters, whereas Uptown Girl was to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.

I was in high school in the 70s. There was some great music, but some horrible music as well. There were several groups/performers that would ALWAYS cause a quick channel turn. Billy Joel was definitely one of those. Can’t stand the guys voice. I dislike his lyrics, his rhythms. Everything. Can’t stand his music. Never did. Never will.
