A youngster that is not a Tupac fan... kind of unheard of these days!! You didn't recognize the sampling and was able to focus on the musical talent of Bruce and the strong message, rather than the similar parts of the song 😊 I loved your reaction!!!

This came out when I was 15 and was on the radio constantly. Bruce was brought up in the deep South and witnessed segregation growing up. His take home line is *don't you believe them* Bruce has been a campaigner for equal rights. He still plays this song and announces he's going to play a Tupac song, which always gets a laugh.

Thank you for the review! Tupac’s song Changes samples this beat. Hornsby was talking about the socioeconomic divide and discrimination. The last verse he mentions the Civil Rights Act of 1964, but that it won’t change the minds of racist people and they’ll still discriminate regardless. Tupac’s song speaks to societal issues too. I was a kid when Hornsby’s came out and it was my stepdad’s jam.

Tupac stole this song. Tupac was gangster, now he's dead. Tupac was really dumb.
@charlesnyckd11 ай бұрын
@@objectiveobserver4278Pac didn’t steal anything. He had to get the clearance to sample the song, to which Bruce happily did. They both highly respected each other.

@@G_Demolished Bruce was very saddened by Tupac's early death and needless killing and paid homage to the talent and artist that Tupac was. The fact that his takings, as the writer and composer, would be doubled or more by both his original track and the relevant sampling (given the content and context of the original) by Tupac was a welcome side of which he made a wholly appropriate comment about.

I’m almost 67, lived through the turbulent 60s and 70s. Things have gotten better slowly for minorities, women, etc but prejudice still exists. I hope when you’re 67, things will be even better. It’s a great song about ignorant and abusive actions by others, but the important part is to not believe that things will never change. Only ignorant people think things won’t , they do, often for the better.

This song is as close to musical perfection as there is; Tupac chose this song because he FELT IT, just like you did

Hey hi from Australia 👋 he's saying the idiot racists may justify their fucked up behaviour by saying that's just the way it is....but the whole message of the song is Don't you believe them. Don't accept that. How awesome is this song? How brilliant is the piano!! I'm old so I remember this being released in 1987. It's as refreshing now as it was then. Loved your reaction - so cute ❤ And maybe check out some Aussie talent. John Farnham, Guy Sebastian, Matt Corby. Or New Zealander Stan Walker doing Ultralight Beam 🔥

Great reaction. Read the great Rep. John L. Lewis' graphic autobiography "March" to get a bit more perspective on the Civil Rights era. The "line on the color bar" isn't an analogy - they really existed. There were places a black person could not enter (or be hired) unless their skin was lighter than that line. Hornsby captured a definite slice of the South, which unfortunately has not gone away.

This is called Easy listening music because no matter your own personal taste, most reasonable decent folk are going to enjoy listening to this. The fact that you are only 21 years old and you are clearly able to appreciate it, says a lot for you young man. Good luck to you and I hope that you continue to enjoy your musical journey of exploration and that you find many more great songs or tracks to enjoy.

I think Bruce comes from Virginia and when he discussed making the song, he said that he couldn't really avoid the issue of race given that he comes from a Southern State. Although that's not to say that Bruce Hornsby agrees with it or thinks that it's right.
