This is my favorite song of his. I can just imagine someone playing a mandolin on a front porch during a light rain. A mandolin is a string instrument, kind of like a banjo, but played flat, not against the body. The words of the chorus are: "Listen to the mandolin rain, Listen to the music on the lake, Listen to my heart break, every time she runs away, Listen to the banjo wind, A sad song drifting low, Listen to the tears roll Down my face as she turns to go." So atmospheric!

A mandolin is a musical instrument commonly played in bluegrass music. Sometimes in country too. It has violin strings double strung on a smaller instrument that is strummed. If a person can play a violin they can easily transition to playing a mandolin.

mandoflin is a stringed instrument in the lute family. Jimmy Buffett had a song that had the line, "There's sometihng so feminine about a mandolin." In this song, it"s the stringed instrument that "tinkles quickly."

Hey AB, I'm so glad you enjoyed this song. Bruce Hornsby can really tinkle those ivories can't he. Here's another suggestion, if interested. "Bruce Hornsby, The Noisemakers - Dreamland (Live at Town Hall, New York City 2004)" --Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers are his band. Hornsby has played with some highly influential bands throughout his career. He has been a touring member of the band "The Grateful Dead" and has played over a hundred shows with the band. He also crosses over into many genres of music. He played with Ricky Skaggs which Skaggs is a bluegrass and country music singer/songwriter. Great reaction AB thanks for sharing. I was out at a club dancing in the late 80's when the song finished I sat down in a booth. These guys came over and said How are you? I said I'm great and you? One of them said We're the range. 🤔 I think you're an oven? The guy over there is Bruce Hornsby and he wants to know if you would like to have V. I. P. tickets to our show tomorrow night and backstage passes. I said has he lost his voice? He can't ask me? The guy went over to him and he came to the booth and said I would really like for you to be my guest at the show tomorrow night. I said that is so sweet but I have to close down the bar tomorrow night. 5-2:30 a.m. He asked me where I worked, I told him and he sent 10 V. I. P Tickets and backstage passes for me to give to my friends. Classy man. Very kind. My friends had a blast. I have a feeling that I royally screwed up. 😱
