This song is inspired by the quote “a dancer dies twice. The first time is when he stops dancing and the first death is much more painful”. Black swan is about their fear that they will lose passion for music and would experience their “first death”. BTS always has a deep underlying meaning in their songs and it’s my favorite things about their music. It’s like trying to solve a riddle. I recommend Blood Sweat and Tears and Dis-ease💜

RM wrote the lyrics to this song. In a recent Rolling Stone interview with Pharrell, he mentioned his fear that he would love art more than music (RM is a huge fan of art, visiting museums all over the world, building a private collection, and even named as a top influencer because he donates a fortune for Korean art and his art-filled IG drives people to visit the museums he visited and inspires people to explore art). To his relief, Pharrell said that kind of thing is temporary and RM will find his passion for music again. The whole interview is wonderful, both artists were curious and candid and have deep respect for each other. And BTS is featured in a song in Pharrell's upcoming album.

This is my favorite BTS song!!!!! The fear of losing your passion for what you love doing. Jimin is the contemporary dancer you were talking about. Just remember ....once you Jim in you will never Jim out ! I'm really enjoying watching you discover BTS! There's a lot to see. BTS always put their whole self into what they do, and you can always see it from the music, the dancing, the performances, clothing, and attitudes. You WILL stop being surprised that you are surprised. There's nothing bad. It's all good. Please continue to enjoy them. After you start checking out some of their shows and start to really get to know them...... Be prepared for your heart to grow 7 times bigger.💜

FYI, BTS has an old song called "Run", a recent song called "Run BTS", and a variety show also called "Run BTS". So when people recommend "Run BTS" from the Busan concert, they're referring to the song. The choreography is fantastic, and you'll see them all dancing hard.

While you are still new to this song there are a few things that you should watch that are also relevant to this song and how this choreography came about. When BTS new album was going to be released, Big Hit made a preview of this song before it was released by BTS and it was danced by a dance troupe in a music video called Black Swan : Art Film. It had 7 dancers who danced more of a contemporary/ballet type of dancing in bare feet and accompanied by classical instrumentation. There is a behind the scenes video of BTS watching this prerelease video and commenting how Jimin could dance the main lead dancer's part, as they knew his training was in Contemporary dance. They debuted their version of this dance, and this song with this accompaniment on the Late Late Show with James Corden where they danced in bare feet and did their version of contemporary/ballet style of dance not typical of KPOP dance choreographies.

It could take a week or more just to go through Black Swan content! You have the numerous dance practices for the various performances they have done, you have a few different behind the scenes shooting sketches for this video, one just with Jimin and his contemporary dancing. There are videos of them on photoshoots with a Black Swan theme and live performances on TV shows such as on the James Corwen and Jimmy Fallon shows etc, and that is all just this one song! It can get overwhelming but I would say stick with their videos as their music and lyrics are amazing. Try their track ON next. There are 2 videos (of course, this is BTS), the official m/v and the more popular Kinetic Manifesto dance m/v.💜

Black swan is one my fav! The meanings and messages of them as artists worrying about "what if one day i'll lose passion of what i currently love doing? And what if that moment would come faster than i thought?" Like.... Every people who has passion in creating art felt the same way. The hook is like a crying for help to fans. "Do your thang with me now", bts have always tell army the reason they continue what they do is bcs they have army that supports their passion and the arts they put out. So whenever they felt theyre losing it, "pls remind me again why i do this" which their fans is one of the biggest reason, "do ur thang of always supporting and lifting us up". And then they say "whats my thing tell me now" is also them asking fans to keep reminding them whats their thing, what they do best. Bts often tell us their vulnerability thinking about the future of "what if my fans leave? What if every reason that keeps me going now, would be gone?" And army will always tell bts that we will always be here. We want to be fans of bts for a long long time, so we just tell bts to be our artists for a long long time.

The "Do your thing with me now, what's my thing tell me now" is very deep, I can interpret it as when you no longer have anything that inspires you and you lost all passion for what you do, which in their case is their musical career, at that time they reached a point where music no longer excited them, that's why they tell the system/company. .. "already do what you want with me, if I don't even know what's my thing, I used to be passionate about music but now I'm lost" Those were their true feelings at that time, and I'm glad they shared them with us. (Probably this was because of overwork, at that time Suga used to live in the studio producing music, and they released so many content that year).

They have said that after getting global recognition they panicked. They never expected to get so big and they have no one to turn to and ask for advice, since nobody from South Korea had made it so far. They felt the pressure and it nearly broke them. A lot of people wanted them to fail, to say that they were just a gimmick or a one hit wonder, so it was a lot of pressure to make a new album that filled expectations. This song is them expressing this dark time when they were so pressured to be perfect and be relevant that they nearly lost themselves and their passion for music. Funny that they rekindled their passion by making more music. That’s how genuine they are.

- The shadow is important here: In the beginning it's large and over-powering, then as they face this darker side of themselves they become the same size and in the end they accept that this side is also a part of them and the shadow is absorbed back into the self. (The devil's in the detail in BTS's videos! 😏) It's a part of their Jungian psychology theme in their Map Of The Soul albums, revolving around the Persona, Shadow and Ego which is also a trilogy of songs by the rap line. - I suggest Dis-ease, ON Kinetic Manifesto or Fire for your next full-group song - Outro: Tear live or Cyphers 1-4 for a rap line reaction - Zero O'clock or The Truth Untold for the vocal line 💜

One of my favorite BTS songs but I have many, depends on my mood. They are so diverse so there are always songs to fit a mood or occation. The orchestral version is amazing. Jimin is the main dancer who have contemporay dance as part of his background in dancing but he is very diverse, started with street/hip hop and popping and then majored on cotemporary but he also incorperated some more martial art moves since he have a background in different kinds of martial arts too. There is a bts (behind the scenes) of Jimins solo dancing for this MV if you wanna see some more.

Yes, they can all dance. What it means to have a dance position is that they will get dance solos, special dance performances and they will most often be front and center in their formations. That way they can cover for the members that are not dancers who are usually at the back or sides. At this point it’s really hard to tell who isn’t a dancer because they’ve all improved so much.

this song is about bts members fear of losing passion for music, writing, producing, performance, dance, sing , rap etc when this was released we thought "oh theyre just going through a rough patch" then they released more music after so we thought okay everything is okay the black swan meaning happened a while ago and they just released it after getting through those struggles. however over the last few years especially this year we learned it was their current state of mind and only got worse as the time went on. so bts ARE still a group however besides having to do their military services theyre taking a break from group music to also work on themselves and their individual music. black swan was in some ways a warning for what was to come but because it was released right before the pandemic a lot of bts plans changed and the world was hit with so much hardship that armys didnt catch on to how severe black swans meaning was. like we knew the over all meaning of them being afraid of losing their passion but we had no idea it was their current state of emotions and would lead them to taking a break from group music simultaneously while they served in the military. but looking back it makes sense and was right in front of our faces. the members said they needed some time a part to grow as individuals as theyve been living together and with each other almost every day for the last 10 years so all their life experiences during that time was together. it was starting to make writing music difficult cause not only were new experiences scarce but so were individual experiences. they all love to create but when theres nothing to say how do you write a song especially songs with meaning. they dont want to make fluff music just for the radio they want their music to have meaning. so theyre taking this time now to each release solo albums and complete their services so in 2025 when they all return they can reunite as a group and make music together again. as you can see black swan has a lot of depth even without all the context i just provided the entire map of the soul 7 album is based off carl jung theories and coexists with bts true feelings during that time. 2019 - 2020. please also react to bts hardships 2013 - 2021 by xceleste it will help you understand bts music and bts in general to know what theyve had to deal with over the years publicly. we obviously dont know all of their personal struggles either i cant imagine how overwhelming it is to not only deal with fear of losing your passion but also deal with all the hardships at the same time.

ON is the next song in the sequence that Black Swan belongs to (an exploration of Jung’s ideas of the Self). It acts as a kind of sequel and answer to the fear expressed here. There are two official music videos for ON, one being a storytelling, cinematic treat while the other is a high energy, more dance-focussed version. The second one is called ON:Kinetic Manifesto and I’d suggest watching that and then the cinematic version. It’s recently become clear just how real the fear in Black Swan was for them at that time in 2019/20. To some extent they’re still dealing with it now.

@sunshineandsprite Жыл бұрын
I've always thought of Black Swan as contemporary hip-hop, if that genre even exists 😂You were pretty spot-on with the meaning as well; they wrote Black Swan about their fear of losing their passion for music. They were trying to express how it would feel if music stopped meaning so much to them, and they're basically saying they would be dead (there's a famous quote that they reference by ballet dancer Martha Graham: "a dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful". BTS is literally saying that losing music would be their first death). It's such an unconventional song because it doesn't really fit into one genre: add on the visuals, the vocals, the rapping, the dancing, and the message, and it's a literal masterpiece, pretty much living proof of why BTS deserves their spot as the most successful group in kpop history. As a gentle warning, it's going to be like this with all of their music - it'll leave you marveling over their talent. Good luck! (if you're looking for a good next track, I'd go for ON, specifically the ON: Kinetic Manifesto Film. Watching Black Swan and ON back to back is always so crazy to me because it feels like a different group; their versatility is just mindblowing)

just to explain to you besides the vocal line and rap line It has the dancing line. Dancers: Main dancers Jimin (contemporary dance) and JHope (street dance and hip hop) and JK and V. are leaders, they come after Jimin and Jhope JK has a more hip hop and American style and V dance is more artistic, he speaks and acts with his body. They will always be at the front or in the center or accompanying who is singing in the choreographies. The hardest parts are always theirs.

This song was so underrated during its release and it's now very common to call this one of BTS's best songs. I would put it next to their songs Fake Love, Ddaeng, Spring Day, Blood Sweat & Tears, and I Need You as their best in my opinion. I think I'd include Trivia: Love, Hold Me Tight, and Autumn/Dead Leaves to the honorable mentions list. Honestly it's rare to find a 'bad' song from them. I can only think of On feat. Sia

BLACK SWAN is about losing ones passion. For example, BTS losing their passion for their craft/music. The lyrics expresses the emotions the artist is going through once they lose they're love for their art. It seems like losing your reason of existing, your just there existing but not living, bately breathing. As mentioned on the lyrics it's like their second death. Jimin is a main dancer (the contemporary guy). J-hope is also a main dancer, he specialises more in hip-hop. J-hope is also the dance leader, they are NOT the same thing. His being the dance leader is more about monitoring the groups dance as a whole (not just his ability to dance). In my opinion J-hope is the best dancer in bts (The members have oftentimes said the same). Jungkook and V are lead dancers (in K-pop main> lead). Jungkook, J-hope, and Jimin are the best dancers in bts. They are the original dance line (they are known as 3j and have their own special performances as a unit). The term' line' is used commonly in K-pop to refer to a group/unit. The singers/vocalist are the 'vocal line', the rappers are the 'rap line', the dancers are the 'dance line'. They also have lines for ages (older members are the 'Hyung line', and the younger members are the 'maknae line').

That’s going too far saying J-Hope is the the best dancer. He is a master in hip hop, street style, yes. But then there’s Jimin, who is trained in virtually every genre, which he incorporates - along with his martial arts expertise - into his dance style. He’s considered a dance prodigy by experts in the global dance community and I agree with that assessment - as do many Army. That is why they are both the main dancers. There is NO BEST because the two are like comparing apples to oranges. Using comments like ‘best’ when it comes to ANY of the members is provocative and shouldn’t be used.

Thankfully they took a hiatus this year & then have gone on to their solo projects which I can't wait for. jhope has become a huge solo artist since debuting & RM is today. Hoping it's Jimin next. Jimin is my bias & he ranked #7 in the top Kpop male solo artists globally this year with only 1 song. BTS is most streamed kpop artists globally with Jungkook being #9.

Thanks for this reaction.:) I recommend ON kinetic manifesto film after Black Swan. Black Swan is a song that expresses their fear of losing their passion for music. And ON is their determination to overcome that fear and move on to the future. :) BTS member Jin said in his acceptance speech at the 2018 MAMA that BTS suddenly became famous worldwide and had a hard time for a year due to great pressure and fear. They even thought about disbanding. However, after a year of talking and contemplating with the members, they decided to stay in the industry only for the fans and members, and move forward. The albums that have been released since then are the Map of the Soul series. The albums are filled with songs that reconsider their inner self, the relationship between the seven members, and the relationship between them and fans. Black Swan, ON and Boy with Luv are one of those songs. Boy with Luv contains a message that they will fly toward fans, not the sun, with wings attached by ARMY. After listening to Black Swan, you can better understand how they feel by reading ON's lyrics. :) And at the last October's concert in Busan, SUGA told ARMY to grow old together because they will make music for another 20 or 30 years. The lyrics of BTS' songs are based on their own experiences, and their albums are organic because they contain their growth narrative. It will also be fun to listen to their albums in order and analyze them. :) Oh, there're many good Black Swan live performances. These two are my favorite lives. :) BTS Black swan The Late Late Show with James Corden kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbl-l5Nj0LzaaKM.html 2020 MMA Black swan & On & Life goes on & Dynamite kzfaq.info/get/bejne/htqRg5eG0MCvqZc.html Suga couldn't participate in the performance due to rehabilitation after his shoulder surgery, but this is one of the masterpieces.

It might be something new to foreigners but K-pop in general especially with BTS's music, one should not try to define what genre of a song is. They go in and out of different genres of music in a song and their final product is mixture of visual, music, dancing, acting, rap, fashion, make up and stage sets ..

Is there anyway you can also show us viewers the lyrics? For some reason even though you can see them, we can't when you upload a video.
