What Suga was alluding to when he said that "if loving this culture is a sin" is pretty much because they got so much crap for doing hip hop as an idol group. So in this song they pretty much were letting people know that these greats were their influences, they did their homework and appreciated the hiphop culture.

I just wanted to clarify that a lot of artist that both RM and Jhope mentioned influenced Yoongi as well. It is just Yoongi went and decided to talk about a abbreviation of how he got into music/rap/producing…. By the way I highly recommend watching this song live. It is awesome live… Thanks for reacting!!

That is indeed RM speaking english. He know english, japanese, korean, and some chinese (don't forget he have an IQ of 148 when he was tested in middle school, Iq 85 to 115 is average, 115 to 129 counts as bright/above average, 140+ count as genius. RM can actually apply for MENSA if he wants (one of the oldest high-IQ society) but anyway mainly the rappers of BTS writes lyrics but one thing about RM is he love word play and alot of his lyrics have double meanings which sometimes unfortunately get lost in english translations . Like the song "am I wrong" which have a line and choreography mocking the former south korean president which had a leak recording of the president calling korean citizens "cows and pigs" and BTS in the song and the dance is crawling on the floor like "cows and pigs" BTS don't get too political because it might cause them problems for example the former government at one time was blacklisting people about speaking a certain incident but BTS made it into a song with alot of hidden symbols in the music video with double meanings taking a risk if they will be in trouble but BTS certainly isn't afraid to talk about problems in society

The SONG was about their friendships - friends they lost throughout the years (due to not having time to spend with them, because they got jealous of them, etc.) while pursuing music. The video, however, yes. It was ALL about...that incident...and NOT exactly subtle. I'm still surprised no one (officially speaking) realized it at the time.

Their title tracks are made to appeal to everybody, they are made to be popular. But Army knows that the real treasure is hiding on their B sides... Some of their best songs are only known to those who really dive into their discography, otherwise you will never hear them. 😊

I love how this song shows the different relationship each of them has with hip-hop. My favorite lines: RM: I had so much to say that the stories told by others were not enough that was when I became myself J-hope: Yo how did I start learning ma Hiphop? I got into it by feeling it with my body I stood out and now I’m in the intersection of rap and dance Suga: Everyone around me asks me, “What is hip hop?” I answer boldly, “It’s my everything” As a result, I buried my life itself in music If loving this culture was a sin, I would have died hundreds of times (Actually, I can quote Suga's entire part. I love every line. What can I say, he's my bias.)

I like that they simply say 'I like hip hop, I do what I want, our roots are real and deeper in this culture then yours' ... RM choose to go with homage and thru this showed who he is and from his passion comes, plus little bit about his start with rapping like in school he was writing on notebooks, it give him a way to show and share his emotions, He actually have some fight with his parents but when they saw that he is serious about it they did what they could to help, He was first person that was sure will be on BTS it was almost 3 years before group started and group was created around him, Suga was next and then Jhope... , Jhope talked mostly about dance, how his lifestyle was dancing hip hop, before we become Hope and learned another way his moves here full of rhymes he had always support from family, his mom especially was there for him... And Suga decide to put in song how he started from elementary school, simple verses and that he go to work, He stoped care for school and did minimum so parents would be chill and choose music, He worked in his town, before joining company and BTS, He started in record studio for free, people called him beat maker Gloss (his name then), He was part of crew D-Town as a producer, he worked on music there and he was fighig with his parents, and fights like fist flying etc... bc they didn't want him to make music then he moved go to seoul find flyer for rap battle that was competition were they looked for BTS members, He was actually first was signed as producer in company but ceo talked with him and rest is history.

@@JenAvaShei I wouldn't say that WAB: The Eternal has the same impact. Sorry. It is a story of BTS and their hardship and how they finally become their name. So it is a good song for BTS and Army but pretty much for no one else. Spring Day is for me all the stages of grief with the hope/healing at the end. For Koreans she is the very embodiment of the Korean emotion "Han". MV and choreo remind us of one of the greatest tragedies in recent Korean history. But the song hold soothing/healing qualities, too. That is the reason why the song is in Korean charts since it's drop in 2017 - for 6 years now. The longest by far. No other song comes close. 💜

@@ruthfischer7615 The queen definitely deserves her title, I always thought that. It was definitely always among my favorites but I think you may have pushed it to my #1 now. I know about the fact that it has been on the charts since forever and also about the story surrounding the ferry incident but I didn't look into "Han" before (which I now did). After your explanation and what I found even with a short research I can understand why you have that opinion. Since I'm not Korean I might never fully understand "Han" in the way it's supposed to be understood / felt. Maybe it's not really comparable but as intensive as the feeling of guilt many germans (I'm german) have due to the history? I'm not that old to have lived in the times around WW2 or even have relatives who lived in those times (my grandparents were just born around the time the war ended or shortly after and my great grandparents died before I was born) but I STILL feel guilty for the german history and have a strange urge to never let something like that ever happen again. I don't feel any national pride at all, like many german people in my social circle, no matter the age or background. I know it's not comparable since the emotions "Han" seems to include are different from what I feel (and I don't think we even have a word for our emotion) but it's the only thing I can think of that has similar impact to me personally and the people in my country as I imagine "Han" feels like for Koreans. That thought alone brings me to tears. Your explanation has led me to new insights and knowledge, thank you very much

Ich will keinen dritten Weltkrieg! 💜

I think hip hop is more accepted in Korea now but it wasn't back then for sure. In the 90s you weren't allowed to do hip hop songs unless you had someone singing on the same track. You guys should check out tiger jk, yoonmirae. They're known as the godmother/father of k-hip hop and have done songs with RM from bts. Song suggestions Timeless - Tiger JK and RM. Buckubucku- Mfbty (this is a group that yoonmirae and tiger jk are apart of with another rapper called bizzy.) But rm has a verse on it and it's 👌🏻

Not sure that the first is true. True democracy came with direct election rights in 1987 with a student rebellion. The result was that clubs that catered to the US GIs opened their doors for the general public, too. The first Hiphop SK came in contact with was the one style you can dance to as a result. But that isn't actually what Hiphop is and so the hour of the Korean-Americans came and the english spoken Hiphop. Understandably Koreans said that that ain't it either and with a bit of hit and miss they developed the third style K-Hiphop. Ironically BTS is probably the first artist all three styles are intervined again. Hiphop went mainstream with Seo Taiji & Boys. They even touched Gangsta rap with "Come Back Home". Than the Idol style and K-Hiphop divided. 1TYM is already not accepted as classic Hiphop while Seo Taiji was - the secret lies in the Idol chorus 1TYM used. K-Hiphop as it derives from Hiphop has the highest bar for authenticity: truth to power (to quote a reactor). While Idol music wants the aesthetic but does (usually - there are exceptions) not know what Hiphop really is. So that is the conflict. There are few artists that are respected in both ways: Zico, Jessi, RM, Suga and probably J-Hope now and 3Racha from Stray Kids come to mind.

This song, along with their song Born Singer (a remake of J. Cole’s Born Sinner) really embody where they came from and the passion and work they put into making it as rappers and artists. They grew and chose to experiment with a lot of other genres but their core is and always has been rap/hip hop. Please check out We On! It’s another older song but it’s really good and will give you an idea of how hungry and unafraid BTS were as new artists on the scene.

Yes, Suga's family was poor. His mother used to throw his equipment away and prohibit him from doing music because she was afraid that he wouldn't be able to support himself. He went and did it anyway, sold tunes to survive , was frequently ripped off. Even worked as a delivery driver while a trainee for BTS. On one of the nights he was working, he got into an accident and the car crushed his shoulder. He told BigHit he tumbled down the stairs. He nearly left the company because he couldn't continue support himself with work. He got stopped and asked why he was leaving and when he said the truth, BigHit paid for his education. But he also worked with partially mobile shoulder and in pain until 2019 when he finally took a break and had an operation to fix it. Honestly, that guy's dedication is astounding. He has a song called First Love about his piano which never fails to make me cry. Which rapper you know who would ever talk about this?!! I love these guys 😜🔥💜
@ruthfischer7615

I'm not sure that Suga's family is poor. I mean they paid for a therapist in a country that has trouble to believe in mental health and had a piano. But they did not suport his dream which is why he financed that himself. For this you would have to know what n-po generation is (it's on wikipedia). The car hit him but I doubt it drove over him. He spoke about how close the wheel was to his face. The fall ripped something in his shoulder and did not crush it. The OP was in fall of 2020 when he couldn't lift a can over his head for a commercial and 2 of 3 doctors suggested it. The piano also stands for music itself and his love for it and how diffcult that was for him.

For Suga, this song was the beginning of a purging process that continued through his first mixtape. He had a MUCH harder childhood than RM or J-Hope. He knew from the time he was a child that he wanted to be a musician and his parents kind of tried to beat it out of him. They didn't have enough money to support his dream and they were terrified that he would end up poor and busking on the streets. He loved the same people mentioned by RM and J-Hope but he had to stubbornly start pulling from deep inside himself at a very young age. He started writing and selling songs in middle school, and sometimes bigger guys would Steal his songs! No lie. That's why his lines are so different from theirs on this track.

They didn't "beat" him. And they are closer again probably since "that" concert. You should look up "n-po generation" to know why the idea of Yoongi's dream probably terrified his parents. There were also others (inlcuding his teachers) that told Yoongi he would "ruin" his family if he kept going on his chosen path. We are also talking about someone that battled depression early and had thoughts about suicide.

It's really hard to choose when they have so many bops and it gets harder when you start knowing more of their discography because they have so many songs with different styles or genres that it's hard to compare or pick favorites. I guess I have like a top 15-10 instead than a top 5 bc i just feel bad if I don't mention the other ones lmao 😭 Anyways, for me It's easier to make a top for each style but since the majority of what you have reacted is in the rap side, just ignore what I said 💀

You should definitely rank your Top 5 BTS songs! You should just also definitely be prepared to do it again... and again... and again... as you hear more from them. With the size of their catalog, it becomes an increasingly difficult game even for those of us who have strong preferences for certain genres over others. Then if you want a new challenge, start ranking various live performances of specific songs -- BTS, the gift that keeps on giving! 🤣

I appreciate you learning the lyrics of their songs thats important but I would also like to see you do like live performances right after. I know you might not have time to do back to back videos but I do believe BTS really needs to be seen live. I also want to respect how you want to put things on your channel but there is something about watching bts doing their songs live so thats why I suggest you might want to do both if you can . I know you already did ugh and the Cypher but if you go and watched them from the Busan concert you will be blown away. A good channel to use for live videos is the channel enjoy bts more she does an amazing job and has the English subs as well. With that said I love your reactions and how honest you are about BTS . Thanks again guys.

Actually, hip-hop is well beloved in Korea: the issue was that BTS (an idol group coming from a small company)was doing hip-hop. Most of the criticism, if anything, came from the hip-hop world because they were considered fake and too "effeminate" to partake in the "swaggy, macho" hip-hop culture (real things that were said to them).

I suggest you to now watch some bts history and introduction videos as well. You will get more familiar with the members and their personalities. If you want to include it, then the first video must be Guide to bts: bangtan 7 by Taylor.

At the 2019? Grammys they sang the Little Nas X Old Town Road and got to perform (kinda) with Nas. RM remixed it (Seoul Town Road). Anyway Nas is one of RM’s favorites. It was great to see them together (kinda).

@@ruthfischer7615 yes, I know. The song is Little Nas X’s. Big Nas was also there. He didn’t perform along side Bangtan, but he did perform with X during that performance. That’s why I said “kinda.”
