"What a field day for the heat; a thousand people in the street." The heat was slang in the 60s for the police.

This song was written about '60s L.A. scene for pre-drinking age teens. The 'locals' and cops wanted to shutdown a non-alcohol club where the teens could come and hangout. The demonstrations follwoed.

Timeless song just as true today if not more so. ( young people carrying signs- mostly say Hooray for our side. )We got to talk to each other , try and understand each other. Don’t buy into the people keeping us separate by scaring us or feeding us lies. ( paranoia runs deep, into our lives it will creep) I have wished many times a young artist would revamp this classic for the new generations ☮️

Mugs, sorry for the mistake. I read this song was written about a protest in LA about a restaurant closing. I think this is a better sound than I sent. "Singing songs and carrying signs, mostly say hurry for our side" But it could fit many other situations too. Thanks again.

The song was about a particular protest in LA. But with the aid of Hollywood, the song became a mantra for the Vietnam War , the counterculture moment, and civil rights movement.

This folk rock band was formed in 66-68. It included Stephen Stills & Neil Young. This was their biggest hit & is considered a protest song. The group disbanded in 1968. Stephen Stills went on to form the supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash with David Crosby of the Byrds and Graham Nash of The Hollies. Neil Young launched his solo career and later joined Stills in Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in 1969.

What a field day for the heat, The heat was the police. Legendary Stephen Stills. For one of his best solo pieces listen to "Treetop Flyer" its about a former military pilot during the Vietnam era who ran guns and drugs for a living after leaving the military.

Thanks for doing this! In these days we're in it really fits. There's another version of this running around with videos where people are in the streets setting things on fire, etc. (It's videos from the Vietnam protests back in the 60's, but it looks just like today). It all feels so familiar. It's the same over and over and over and over. Can't we all just come together. Everybody picking sides, and only saying "hooray for our side!" (I think, frankly the maga people are only about "hooray for our side!" and "paranoia strikes deep" and the maga don't care the outcome at all. Autocracy? Dictator? Cool. Just WIN at all costs.)

If you’ve ever watched a movie centered around the Vietnam War, you’ve likely heard short clips of this. The Vietnam War protesters. Without a long lesson, up to you to explore why this song is what it is. Neil Young is in this band. And Stephen Stills from Crosby, Stills. & Nash (CSN, and CSNY when they added Neil Young)
