Tír na nÓg, home of the Tuatha Dé Danann, ancient Irish gods. It's amazing how much of the western world's mythology comes right from the ancient Celts. Banshees, pixies, fairies many others were a part of old Irish, Scottish and Welsh tales. If Amber is really interested in her Celtic heritage she should read up on chars like Cuchulain, Finn McCool, Cormac mac Airt and so many others.

Firstly, the mental image of your amazonian Irish grandmother and your short little German grandfather delights me to no end. That sounds like a perfect pairing, imo. Secondly, I hope you listened to the music during the credits of Fellowship of the Ring! The song May it Be sung by Enya never fails to bring tears to my eyes. It was also covered by Celtic Woman, Lisa Kelly was the vocalist and there is a beautiful performance of it if you want to watch it.

Nope, it's Irish. Gaelic or Goidelic is the group of languages that includes Gaeilge (Irish), Gáidhlig (Scottish Gaelic) and Gaelg (Manx). Welsh, Cornish and Breton are also Celtic languages but from another branch of it. The Celts also covered most of Europe at one point - what's left now is just the insular Celts in the UK and Ireland. And Brittany in France.

My first concert was Pat Benatar, February1981. It was a high energy concert. It was so good that the audience refused to leave after the band left the stage and the arena lights came on. After 10 minutes of chanting, Pat and her band briefly appeared to thank us for the encore. After that, it was diminishing returns. She still put on good shows in 82, 83 and 89, when I saw her, but by 1992, she had dialed it way back. It is that way with a lot of bands. Presently I love BABYMETAL. Nothing will match their September 2016 Tokyo Dome concert. Amuse Inc. probably went into debt putting on that show and we are unlikely to see a show of that magnitude again. In 2013, when Nightwish appeared at Wakken, Floor treated the appearance as one great audition. It was a magical show. She has since dialed it back. So, there was logic in seeing Celtic Woman just once.

A note about languages: The term Gaelic refers to two languages, Irish and Scottish; what you're hearing here is Irish Gaelic. The term Celtic refers to the larger family of related languages; it includes the Gaelic languages, but also Welsh (spoken in Wales), Manx (spoken on the Isle of Man) and Breton (spoken in northwestern France). I find all of the languages incredibly beautiful; I'm learning both Gaelic ones. Here are some suggestions for more music: Ashley MacIsaac, "Sleepy Maggie" (in Scottish Gaelic) Choral Scholars of University College Dublin, "Mo Ghille Mear (My Gallant Hero)" (in Irish Gaelic; sick beat drop in this one) And you really should hear the Chieftains; they're the most important band in all of Celtic music. Their song featuring Sinead O'Connor, "The Foggy Dew" is about the Easter Rising of 1916. Not to be missed.

Seeing this title, about this mythical land, reminds me so much of that scene in _Titanic (1997),_ where the young mother was trapped down in 3rd class / steerage with her two young children, about 5 years old. Steerage was where the poorer folk traveled, and she'd been trapped there because all the gates to the outside had been locked by the crew, so that the first class passengers could take all the spots on the lifeboats, of which there were too few. As this young mother was putting her precious ones to bed, calming them as they all three faced certain death from the icy waters of the North Atlantic, which were already flooding their level, she began telling them about this magical place. "And so they lived happily together for 300 years, in the land of Tír na nÓg, the land of eternal youth and beauty." And her trusting, innocent little babies lay there, falling asleep as their mommy had told them to do, so they could wake up with her in that wondrous place. Heartbreaking....

The main distinction between the violin vs fiddle is in the genre of music played. Violins are primarily used in classical music and jazz. Fiddles are violins set up for playing folk, bluegrass, country, and other similar non-classical music.

Van Morrison wrote and sings a different song with the same title Tir Na Nog - it's a mid-tempo song rather than the Irish jig that this song is ."We were standing in the kingdom And by the mansion gate We stood enraptured by the silence As the birds sang their heavenly song In Tir Na Nog" Magestic , beautiful song with many verses - have a listen 🎧 !!

Mairead Nesbitt describes herself as a fiddle player. My wife and I have seen three of their performances live in the Tampa Florida area, and all three were wonderful.

Tír na nÓg was the land of youth and was the Otherworld home of the Celtic gods and other supernatural creatures like elves and fairies. In traditional Irish music or dancing the instruments used are fiddle, Bodhrán(drum), flute, tin whistle, harp, accordion, Uilleann pipes(Irish version of bagpipes), and Concertina.

I'm so glad that you listened to Celtic Woman. I got the chance to work with their former producer for some projects along with one of the singers. They didn't know they were going to make it on their first PBS special back in 2004, but so many people around the world fell in love with their music, so they've been touring and performing for almost 20 years.

Irish people speak Gaelic, at least the ones that still do. It's a dieing language, very old but deeply ingrained in Irish lure and culture. It the language of the Mystic and of the Wee people.

The violinist Maeve has left the group. Chloe Agnew left and has returned. I once asked a violinist, what was the difference between a violinist and a fiddle. The response was, the type of music being played.

I think you are thinking Mairead who played the fiddle with Celtic Woman for many years. Maeve was a gifted singer from the original lineup/group. I have seen them in concert a few times and it was a joy to see and hear Mairead play. It was treat to watch her kick off her shoes, kick up her heels, dance around the stage and play her heart out as she felt the music. Such a talented group!

Lovely, as always. The violinist is Mairead Nesbit, who is so Elvish it fair kills me. The silken wildness of their music speaks to the Irishman in me.

Love the Celtic Woman addition to Female Friday. Please consider Karen Matheson as a Female Friday addition, Karen is one of Scotland's Best singers as lead for the band Capercaillie. I'd recommend you look at "My Love is Like a Red Red Rose". Her voice is truly beyond compare. Her Version of "Amazing Grace" sung in Scots Gaelic will bring tears to your eyes even though you don't speak Scot's Gaelic.

If you guys like the sound of Celtic Women than I would recommend especially around St Patrick's day to keep an eye on your public tv channel. They often will feature one of their concerts during one of the channels fund raising drives, and guys it's step dancing not tap.

One of my favorite artists is Julie Fowlis. She's a Scottish singer, specializing in Scottish Gaelic folk songs. Her version of "Tha Mo Ghaol Air Àird a' Chuain" was featured in the 2012 Disney movie, "Brave". If you like Celtic Woman, you may want to watch Ms Fowlis and her live version with the lyrics that I posted below. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jd6dd5eUtarRgZc.html
