Gloria Estefan and the Miami Soundmachine seem to have been overlooked in today’s time. She was huge in the 80s. “Here We Are”, “Cuts Both Ways”, “Don’t Wanna Lose You”, “Anything For You” and others. They really were a machine, hit after hit. Gloria is a great role model.

They were really good weren't they? Like other groups that stood out they had their own unique sound while still being like everything else we all liked at the time. This isn't the best example of her vocals either, the ballads are good to show that.

"1-2-3" and "Get on Your Feet" are two other great singles by Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine. I always loved this music group. Later, in the 1990s, Gloria Estefan would achieve another hit that I enjoyed, "Turn the Beat Around" as a solo artist. Hope you guys get a chance to hear these three songs in the future and experience more of her wonderful talent as a singer.

Oh this a great rabbit hole! Gloria Estefan was a trailblazer. We had never heard this type of music before, and she became a legend. Here We Are, Destiny, Steal Your Heart, Oye, Bad Boys, Music of My Heart, Anything for You,...so many more. She had many Spanish-language albums, but Mi Tierra was just a masterpiece to me. Con Los Años Que Me Quedan, Mi Tierra, and Volverás are three beauties. Coming Out of the Dark was another powerful song. She was involved in a horrific tour bus accident where she nearly died. They told her she would never walk again. When she walked out on that stage to sing Coming Out of the Dark,...it still makes me teary-eyed remembering it.

Another favorite! *Jordan* , the "piano/guitar" is called a keytar. Keyboard held like a guitar = keytar. You mentioned horns. In Latin music, you can find some amazing horn sounds, like in jazz. Hint-hint. Next up by Gloria (with/without the Miami Sound Machine).... "1-2-3" "Bad Boy" "Don't Wanna Lose You" "Everlasting Love" (Carl Carlton had a hit with it in the '70s. I think you reacted to his song "Bad Mamma Jamma") "Turn the Beat Around" (Vicki Sue Robinson sang it before Gloria) "Coming Out of the Dark" (beautiful inspirational song. She wrote it after she and her family survived a terrible bus accident. Gloria was seriously injured, but pulled through and a few years later, gave birth to her second child, a daughter.) 🙂
@kevinhodgson2990
@kevinhodgson2990 Жыл бұрын
With regard to the "keytar", the purpose is mobility. The artist can come out from behind a stack of keyboards or piano and interact with the audience in a similar manner as the guitarist and bassist. Roy Wooten did the same thing with his drum kit and called it a "Drumitar".

Technically it's not by Gloria Estefan. It's Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine. Prior to that it was Miami Sound Machine. The group was founded by Emilio Estefan Jr. Anyway, it was the Miami Latin Boys, then Gloria joined the group. Eventually the group was dissolved, and it was just Gloria Estefan as she married Emilio. When this was released it was Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine.

I have always loved Gloria Estefan and the MSM. They were such a big influence for the culture and broke the glass ceiling in the industry for that time. Still, you should look into her album, Mi Tiera. Great, great music that will make you want to move your body. It is in her native language. If you dive into that album, I suggest the song TRADACION. It has horns, congas, and a Big band ensemble that will take you on a journey that will melt your heart, get you up to dance and smile the whole way through. As always great job you two! 🤘🏽

I used to play this song on my car stereo cassette player when my kids were little. For months straight! Every time the guy does that low "oogh" sound, my baby one-year-old son would do it on the exact right timing! We have a family like yours, the two sisters then a baby brother. The girls would just get in fits of giggles when he did it.

Another great song is Turn the Beat Around. But they also do love songs like Anything for You. Her husband Emilio is also in the band.

"Falling in Love (Uh Oh) is a great ballad from their earlier chart days and "Live for Loving You" will get you on your feet as well. Both are worth a listen.

They were a GREAT band, and she was the perfect voice for them! They had a lot of great songs, but you should check out "Conga" next. It'll make you want to book a trip for Miami after hearing it.

I'm a long time fan, and to me, this is the most "Gloria Estefan" of all Gloria's songs. It's a more mature and sophisticated version of the idea in Conga -- a get up and dance song. It has all the elements that make her work great. The complex Latin rhythms, a melody that makes full use of her amazing voice, the call-and-response opener, the synth slide up to a stop-bang, snappy horns, and a party attitude. If you're a ballroom dancer, it's a great cha-cha number, but you're going to need to sit down and drink some cold water when it's over.
