Back in the early-to-mid 1970s there was no such thing as Smooth Jazz (at least 'that' name for what these people were playing didn't exist yet) BUT, there was a vocalist in Milwaukee named; Al Jarreau, a guitarist out of Pittsburgh; George Benson, and a guy from upstate New York who played an, oh so rich sounding horn, called a "fugglehorn;" the great Chuck Mangione... these guys laid the musical foundations that made the s-m-o-o-t-h... that made us "Feel So Good!"

Thanks for checking this out - such an amazing cross-over hit, giving jazz virtuosity main stream exposure through a catchy funky rhythm section and an accessible melodic theme. Each instrument gets such excellent time and room to breathe and shine.

Still have his Children of Sanchez soundtrack album, love it even all these decades later! Here is the full album, starts out with a sad solo about children and humanity but then BAM! The power of the music it seques into is so gorgeous! I was only 15 when that album came out, had it on vinyl and used to listen to it over and over. Maybe kinda weird for a teenage girl, ha, but I've always loved the horns--trumpet, sax, you name it.When I was 6 I had the greatest saxophone hits of Boots Randolph that my mom had to play at night so I'd go to sleep, ha! Anyway, if you ever get curious to check out this Mangione album here is the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJ9le9eGzLW8e4E.html

Well you did it now, JJ...you are the freak of the internet. Know how long I've been trying to get a jazz-loving venue to play this? Well, actually I'm not sure, but I don't recall any reactor doing this, and I have bookmarked about 30 I visit every night. Everybody's doing the same songs from the same groups. But nobody's done this except this sticks-out-like-a-sore-thumb channel. Loved it. By the way, for anyone who's interested in the monster player who did the guitar solo: Grant Geissman.

@@hildat8 Hi Hilda! It's so nice to get a message from someone who actually knows who Larry Carlton is! No, Grant Geissman toured with Mangione and it was his solo: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mb-cqa56va66eXU.html In this video, where he's talking to Norm at "Norman's Rare Guitars," Grant actually mentions Larry Carlton as a contributor on a new album Grant's doing. Cheers!
