If you’re not a guitar player, it’s impossible to appreciate how incredibly difficult this song is to play… and then to sing on top of it! Dave himself claims to be a hack at guitar but honestly he’s a generational talent when it comes to writing music and playing it. He invented a style on his own that have inspired many after him. And he’s still going strong! Absolute legend

This is a fact. I can both play and sing this song and it requires almost complete detachment between your hands and the vocals. The man IS a genius.

Best Live Band of the last 30+ years. I've seen them 20 times and they've been amazing everytime. You're right about the Jazz Influence. Both Carter Beauford (Drums) and Leroi Moore (Sax) were Jazz Musicians before DMB. Boyd Tinsley ( Violin) was a classically trained Violinist and Stephen Lessard (Bass)was a 16 year old Bass prodigy when he joined the band. Finally Dave Matthews is a self taught musician from South Africa. You'll hear a lot of African Influences in their music. Please check out songs Tripping Billies, #41, All Along the Watchtower, Seek Up (Epic Wailing Version) and The Dreaming Tree. You'll be blown away by all I promise.

Watching people react to Dave Matthews for the first time never gets old 😊truly the greatest band of my lifetime! I have been searching for decades for another band that comes close to them and it doesn’t exist. They were always classified as Alternative Rock. I met Dave when I was 18 years old (25 years ago) and he was the only famous person who ever wanted to meet. He didn’t disappoint!! Every single member of the band is so incredibly talented it’s hard to explain! You guys should definitely do more reactions to them and look at Dave and Tim Reynolds live performances! It’s just two acoustic guitar players!

I love this band, we go see them every summer and they never play the same song twice. If yiu hear a song at the Friday show, you won't hear it at the Saturday show. Great reaction, ya'll ❤

Saw these guys for the first time in 98’ and have been to about 30 shows since. I’ve seen many bands in concert, a lot of music in my 40 years…. Dave Matthews Band is the greatest live band I’ve ever seen… and it’s not even that close.

DMB rules, & I became a massive fan when “Before These Crowded Streets” came out. Their best work to date. Also, love the “Lateralus” pic. That’s my favorite album ever, by my favorite band ever with “BTCS” a close 2nd. 👌🏻

That’s awesome. Yeah I started getting in to both these bands in the early 90’s. Seen DMB over 30 times and Tool about a dozen. By far my two favorites… As far as albums go, my all time favorite is Aenima, followed by Crash(I’ll admit, BTCS is probably the “better” album, but Crash holds a special place in my heart). Lateralus and BTCS definitely make my top 5 though

There is so much to choose from their catalogue, my three MUST watch/listen recommendation: 1- Dave Matthews Band - #41 (Live in Europe 2009) 2- Seek Up - Dave Matthews Band - 7/30/01 SPAC 3- Curious about an acoustic version...? The entire album is absolutely fantastic but try this masterpiece: Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Bartender ( Live at Radio City Music Hall )

These are the exact 3 songs and performances I would recommend, I would just flip the order of #1 & #3. Bartender @ Radio City is so unbelievably beautiful. Seek Up @ SPAC is a borderline spiritual experience.

Been a Dave Matthews Band fan since 2005ish Didn't go to shows back then because of the Frat Boy Atmosphere here in Hartford, CT surrounding the shows Finally went to my first show in 5/25/2012 and they opened with The Stone and have been hooked every since I will be going to my 50th DMB show next month. Highly recommend going to a show if you get a chance as even these videos don't do the live experience justice.

This song *is* beautiful, thanks to this band of musicians who make everything seem so effortless and tight. Trying playing through this entire song on guitar and your hand will be reduced to a claw. Carter's timing on drums is impeccable, never mind how large his kit is. Stefan was/is a bass prodigy. Past members LeRoi (RIP) and Boyd were awesome. Add in Tim Reynolds (not with the band for this show) as a guitar virtuoso, and it's almost not fair how much talent is on stage. Oh, and the lyrics...!

Dave says he made a new noise. I agree with that lol I'm a huge Dave fan and can list a million I would want to watch you listen to for the first time, but I'm biased, so I'll leave you three to pick from Tripping Billies - for the wild blend of jazz and blue grass and bluesy undertones Crush - for it's coolness She - for it's rockness Bonus track - that girl is you... Im sure youve been enlightened by other dave heads, but yes, most of the band were jazz musicians, Boyd, the violin player spent lots of time in the gym, LeRoi the horn player is just magic, Carter, the drummer deserves a whole 3-4 reaction vids of his own, cuz he’s unreal, etc etc. I’ve got over 20 shows under my belt and ‘Live” is the only true way to experience their music… check out Bartender, Halloween, umm, Seek up from the central park concert… that should be a good start.

First and foremost, you guys are legit and get a sub from me. Y’all should look into the Live at Central Park concert (2003) next. That’s the quintessential live show for Dave Matthews Band fans. I’d recommend reacting to Ants Marching or Two Step from that particular show. Basically, these guys are all jazz musicians from Virginia that got together in the early 90s. But Dave (white guy singing), is actually from South Africa, so there’s a heavy influence by African musicians which is why this does not sound like traditional rock. So you have a mix of jazz, rock, African roots, and folk as well. What you also have to realize is that this band is driven by the drummer you saw, Carter Beauford, who is arguably the greatest drummer alive and definitely ranks in the top 20 all time. He’s super respected by musicians and is known for complex polyrhythms (playing multiple rhythms at the same time), intricate hi-hat patterns, rapid fills, and heavily syncopated grooves. So they’ve structured their songs around this style of drums (followed by Dave’s rhythm guitar) first before something like lead guitar which, whether people like to hear it or not, is how black people traditionally write music. And that leads into what you pointed out: you were surprised to see there’s black guys in the band playing the instruments they’re playing. So what you end up with is this insane mix of influences that does not follow the formula of the typical American band at all. As a side note, Boyd Tinsley (violin) is no longer with the band. The sax player Leroi Moore unfortunately passed on around 2008. The band drastically changed after that but they’re still touring to this day and I was just at a show couple weeks ago.

Boyd was fired from the band after some pretty gross behavior, and getting really heavily into drugs. We lost LeRoi to a lung clot resulting from injuries he suffered while riding an ATV on his property. He hit a ditch that was hidden under snow, which flipped the vehicle over on top of him.
