Nostalgia is right! I'm literally crying right now... I grew up with four brothers and literally the only thing that my oldest brother and I did together with it being just him and I was we went to a Dave Matthews concert one summer a couple of months after he graduated. It was in an open field amphitheater it's called The Gorge which is in George, Washington (State, not D.C.). The hill where everyone sits in front of the stage basically goes up so it's like stadium seating and there is quite a lot of greenage being smoked at Dave Matthews concerts if you didn't know haha! It was an awesome concert... Anyway it had pretty much gotten dark there was just a strip of sunset colors on the horizon behind the river and I remember this song started up and I happened to look over at my brother and he was looking at me and I felt like in that moment we really connected for the first time as adults. Our childhood was very chaotic and to be honest I didn't really know him very well up until then. I know that might sound kind of weird and creepy because this particular song is about sex but it wasn't in our minds in that moment it was just us both experiencing pure happiness together. He died of testicular cancer when he was 37 years old.

"What would you Say" was ALL over Mtv back in the 90s. My favorite still has to be the LIVE performance in Central Park in NYC of "Ants Marching" because of the DRUMMER! - - I'm sure many have already mentioned the Drummer in the comments!

SO happy you acknowledged the song’s musical complexity! Nowadays, DMB is often disregarded as just another 90s-era “jam band.” Sure, they do some jam-y stuff (especially live), but I think the actual compositions -and subsequent recorded performances- are genuinely impressive (not to mention the hypnotic quality of THAT VOICE!)

Goosebumps, Borat impression, double take at suggestive lyrics... damn, this reaction brought some vintage Alex out 😄😄😆 The Dave Matthews Band is a very classic late 90's/early 2000's sound, that very not quite rock, not exactly pop, easy listening just vibing music. His songs and voice always remind me of Rom-coms, but in like the best sorta way. He almost reminds me of John Mayer because of that. While I'm not overly familiar with DMB, I do know that i don't hate them, they do evoke emotion and nostalgia and watching you experience them like this was a real treat.

This (somehow) was the "class theme song" for our prom back in the early 2000s. I say "somehow" because there was a poll circulated around the ENTIRE class and out of like 80 students all of THREE students voted for this song. But those three were class president, class VP, and some other "class official" (probably something like head of the yearbook staff or some such). So because THEY wanted it, that was the song we were stuck with. So when the teachers/staff running the prom had the DJ put that song on expecting us to all be joyous and jubilant about it, we, as a class (minus those three, one of which didn't even come) decided we would just stand there. Stop dancing, stop socializing, stop doing anything fun, and just stand there. Glaring at the staff. Until that one line that comes in about 3/4 of the way through, the one that caught your attention, "hike up your skirt a little more, and show the world to me. Hike up your skirt a little more, and show your world to me." That line we all SHOUTED at the op of our lungs and then walked out of the ballroom.

Ahh, my high school years. DMB and Collective Soul. The unique sound comes from the unorthodox lineup. A violin and sax added to the usual guitar and bass was quite strange at the time. LeRoi could also play most woodwind instruments, including the flute, oboe, and penny whistle. Warehouse, Lie in Our Graves, Stay, Crush, The Dreaming Tree, most of the Everyday album, Grey Street, You & Me, and Mercy are my favorites. And yes, Carter Beauford is an incredible drummer. Arguably holds the mantle after Peart's untimely passing. Also, if you're going on a 90s alt-pop-rock bender, you need to get some Collective Soul in there. A lot of people will say Shine ( and they aren't wrong ), but if you want some bangers, go for Simple, Where the River Flows, Precious Declaration, Heavy, and Why, Pt. 2. And if you want the ultimate chill song, check out No More, No Less.

So you listened to the video version. If you got goosebumps from that edited version, the album version will send you into another dimension. It gets pretty jammy. Stevie Nicks's version is also pretty good. Crash Into Me is one of my favorite songs.

Been a fan of DMB since this song hit when I was teen. And I live in VA where they originated. Video for this song was recorded in one of the members grandmother’s backyard I believe. M the guys are very talented. Dave can pick a mean guitar! And Dave’s interviews are always entertaining. As well as his solo acoustic performances

Local guy from my hometown! Still remember him from his pre-fame bartending days when he would sometimes play sets on nights off. Ended up meeting him one-on-one years later at another joint by pure freak accident at 3am after another artist's gig Dave's friends with and had lent some gear to that night, and he was creeping in to pick up his stuff after he thought all the attendees had long gone, and my then car-less ass was still stuck there bc my ride was hella late. Real chill dude, was super nice, we chatted and joked for a good bit and he never made it seem like I was an inconvenience, considering the situation. 'Course, he was most likely baked out of his skull, but still lol. A-1 guy for sure!

I became an instant Dave Matthews band listener the day I heard and saw their version of " All along the watchtower " from Woodstock. him standing in a PJ, the music and sea of people.. it was just inspiring.
