this song has given me an incredible memory of my mom, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that spread to her liver and she needed chemotherapy treatments, the very last treatment I took her to before she had to quit the chemo we walked into the treatment office and it was really quiet, while the lady was hooking up my mom for her final treatment my mom asked if they would turn the radio on, so I did, this song just started and my mom started singing this song and she sounded exactly like Diana Ross, it freaked me and the two chemo nurses out, I knew my mom could sing but that really surprised me and I will live for the rest of my life with that memory in my mind and in my heart.

She was a singer and a actress, she sang the theme song from some of the movies she was in. This song comes from the movie "Mahogany". She was also in the movie "The Wiz" with Michael Jackson (They sang "Ease on down the Road' in the movie) and the movie "Lady Sings the Blues". Since you're just getting to Diana Ross you may want to check out her music when she was with the Motown girl group "The Supremes". Some other songs of hers: Ain't No Mountain High Enough (to me this is her theme song), I always think of her when I hear it. The songs: Love Hangover, Touch me in the Morning and Endless Love (sung with Lionel Richie) from the movie "Blue Lagoon". You also saw her sing in the collaboration song "We are the World" (she was holding hands with Stevie Wonder). Those are just a few selections from her vast array of music.😊

I was in elementary school when her other song, "Touch Me In The Morning," came out.. I got the 45 and sang it.. I tried to copy her.. I too was a soprano.. and then a few years later in Jr. High, Theme from Mahogany came out.. Just loved the song, very angelic and haunting... once again, I copied her ..We even share the same name.. lol she pretty much taught me how to sing. Amazing woman and talent.

BTW, this song was originally recorded by Thelma Huston in 1973, but was never released, but that version is on YT. When Mahogany was being made, Berry Gordy reached out the the writers, and asked for help on the soundtrack to the movie, and the rest is history. Some of the original lyrics were changed as well, so it would go better with the movies story, but both versions deserve a listen.

The scene that plays while this song is going in the movie is just perfect, as she is leaving her old life behind, and starting a new one half way around the globe. She looks out her cab window and marvels in amazement at all the sights of Rome, and as a brown girl from the projects, you feel her sense of wonder and amazement. I never hear this song, and don't think about the movie, as it is just one of those perfect movie scenes, were song and moment come together for something more than the sum of it's parts.

Diana Ross, forever Supreme! Majorly underated as an actress, she was nominated for an Oscar for " Lady Sings the Blues" and unfortunately she lost to Liza Minelli for "Cabaret". She already had a cemented place in history but her iconic Central Park concert for 800,000 made it even more solid.

Watching the Ed Sullivan show back in the late 60's,Diana Ross and the Supremes were on singing their latest song(I was only 4 years old ) I thought they were beautiful, looking like a million bucks. I remember her solo hits in the 70s and 80s. I even got to see her in concert twice. She was just as beautiful,if not more in person 40+ years later. She owned teh stage. She interacted with the audience as though all of us were her best friends. You can't sit down during her concert. Full of energy (even in her ballads()Just her and the orchestra. The house was packed both times. Her latest album "THANKFUL" is great. She is a true legend.

I grew up in a little town in upstate NY in the 70's and Diana Ross was always played in my household, all my friends would come to my house to listen to her, Stevie Wonder, Brothers Johnson, etc. but we had to keep it on the DL because we were most likely one of the only white folks in my town that listened to black artists. My parents could have cared less that the neighbors talked about us and called us bigoted names, but all their kids were at my house every afternoon to listen to the music.
