This gem of a song was written by Ashford & Simpson, who also wrote "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "Remember Me". By the way, would LOVE to see you do a reaction video to "Love Hangover".

That album cover for "The Boss" got a lot of attention at the time. It was really the first time Diana starting wearing big hair! Which has become her trademark. She looked very natural and still glamorous and sexy.

*~ I know, Diana Ross was GORGEOUS!!! She seemed to transform herself into an incredible beauty and woman in the 1970s and through having her first 3 children. A definite reaction would be to Diana's "LOVE HANGOVER" (The 7 1/2-minute version!), which went to Billboard #1, and I would say one of the top disco classics. I was an adolescent then, and Diana was a massive star. Her Caesar's Palace show from 1979 (on KZfaq) is Diana at her zenith and most "magical"; well worth watching. Great Reaction and Best ~*

I love all her music. Good melodies and such a pretty voice. This one never got overexposed so it still sounds really fresh.

This is my favorite Diana Ross song. Most people tend to go for "I'm Coming Out," but I think this one is much better. So glad you chose it. I've never heard this extended version though.

This probably my favorite Diana Ross song!! Lots of great fun music during this era!!!

So many great songs from the disco era. I was in my late teens and 20s. This was the club version of The Boss. I slightly preferred the regular edit but this was good. I usually prefer the longer club versions. This is one of the few exceptions. As a sidenote, what disappointed me with this whole covid business was it took away some of the life experiences our young people should have had. It will be part of what they'll reminisce decades later. And one more thing. It's a disco song. I love disco, and for many of us, among the best times of our lives.

She got this one in right before the disco era ended. This was a big hit in the dance clubs. I know because the club was my second home back then. Ross is the boss and the epitome of glamour. She still tours today at 78 years old.

I have 2 rare compilation albums of Ashford and Simpson songs that are done by other artists (they also wrote this song). I love 2 songs "Bad Company" and "I'll Just Die" that they did with their back up singer Ullanda McCullough. And Sylvester turned their song "Over And Over" inside out ("You can't be somebody's lover until you're somebody's friend")

Music at this time was released on vinyl records. You had 7-inch records (referred to as 45s because they were to be played at 45 rpm [rotations per minute]) which were used for singles (typically one song on the "A" side, and another song on the "B" side). The A-side is the song the record company wanted the radio DJs to play. Then you had 12-inch records that albums were pressed on. Albums were to be played back at 33rpm [rotations per minute]. During the disco era (late 1970's) singles (one song) started being pressed on the larger 12-inch records for club DJs. Often times these club records were extended in time; made longer than the album and 45 versions of the song. These longer songs allowed people to dance longer to their jams without the DJ having to restart the song everything 3 or 4 minutes. People used to like to go clubbing and dance for hours. These longer songs also gave DJs the opportunity to take a break, go to the restroom, get a drink or what have you.

The vocals are lower on this mix. May be because whoever mixed this wanted the focus to be more on the beat, so they slapped a bunch of Compression/ Limiting on the song to push the Bottom End up more.. Sound guy here.. sorry.. This album was produced by Ashford and Simpson. It was during the times of Studio 54 in the heart of the Disco Era so this was a big hit in the clubs and on the radio..

Yes, as you suspected the vocals on this version are LOW, and do nothing to promote Miss Ross. This song was by far her most popular song for me. Just the idea that we all think, going into a liaison that we will be able to exit it whenever we want, only to find that LOVE will step in and show us exactly who is the BOSS.
