Opera singer Kiri Te Kanawa told Michael Parkinson that: Elvis had the greatest voice she had ever heard. Tenor Placido Domingo in an interview said: He was the one voice I wish to have had. Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel said: Elvis was very classically orientated with his voice and diction. Very sincere in wanting to get everything perfect

Great reaction. Thank you for doing this and great observations. This is Paul Simon's favorite cover of this song. Of Elvis's interpretation, Simon stated (paraphrase) "How the hell am I supposed to match that?" Elvis not only shows off his range and dynamic control, but also his ability to convey emotion with his entire performance. The musical arrangement is also so key to the effectiveness of this performance. Bravo to the piano player (Glen Hardin), the orchestra and the backup singers who provide a gospel flair.

One mention, too, is that although Elvis didn't write songs, he produced them and often had a vision in his head of what he wanted. Therefore, he worked with his piano player in putting together arrangements, such is what you see here. It's why I think he's one of the most underrated producers in history. Enjoy your channel, my friends!

Wonderful reaction. This is a masterpiece by Elvis and Company. I saw this performance live in Vegas 10 times and every one was flawless and inimitable. He was the consummate performer. He also demanded that tickets to his concerts stayed affordable and they were. He often did charity concerts and sometimes gave jewelry to fans during a concert. A fantastic singer, arranger and performer as well as an amazingly decent man. He produced all of his recordings after he left Sun.

I'm so glad you guys got to this. I could never get tired of watching and listening to this. Everything, and I've watched the behind-the-scenes footage where Elvis is working out the arrangement for this with his band and backing vocalists in practice, and it's a terrific insight. Elvis was an amazing arranger. But vocally he kills it and the band just kills it and the backing vocalists just kill it. His sense of nuance and dynamic range there at the beginning is so incredible. And you can hear all the little different flavors to his voice; it's so quiet you could hear a pin drop otherwise. Then he goes all Opera at the end and it just totally kicks ass.

When Elvis covers a song it becomes his. There is a reason he is declared the King of Rock-n-roll, his voice, his showmanship and stage presence, his band and back up singers when you went to an Elvis concert you never left feeling you did not get your moneys worth. As a child growing up where my mom was a huge Elvis Fan his music was a regular staple in our household. I cannot hear Elvis and not think about my mom and as she passed long ago it is a happy/sad memory at the same time.

When Elvis was touring, the price of a ticket was usually $10, $12 or at the most $15 ( $65-$95 in today's money ) .... Not sure about Vegas, because some shows were Dinner shows with meals included. However, the Maitre 'D at the International ( later renamed the Hilton ) became a wealthy man accepting tips from patrons wishing to be seated near the stage ....

I love that the younger generations are now discovering artists from the past and their brilliance, especially the pioneers who kicked open the doors for everyone who came after them. There are somethings I don’t understand though. Like why reactors stop the video to repeat the lyrics that we too just heard. We heard what they said, we don’t need you to “break it down for us.” To me, as someone from the older generation, this is talking down to your audience, I find it rude and patronizing. Some reactors even talk over the artists, again it’s rude. I notice that the reactors that have the most subscribers do not pause their videos mid song to interpret the lyrics or make comments. They can handle getting through a 3 minute song to give their thoughts and opinions at the end of the song. The beautiful thing about music is each song means different things to different people so everyone interprets the lyrics differently. That’s the beauty of this art form. It’s funny when I see these kids giving opinions on someone like Elvis Presley. When they sell a billion records, then and only then can they take his crown and make serious critiques on his music/art. I realize it’s all done in fun and some are very good and particular at what they do, they have incredible knowledge of music . . . I just wish these people would appreciate and respect their audience more and save their critique for when the song is finished. Respect your audience, that’s how you gain subscribers. As Elvis once said, “I never learned a damn thing by talking.” - Elvis Presley (Which means he learned by listening, now having me explain that to you, don’t you find that patronizing? Exactly my point!) Have a good day everyone. 😁

Then he went to the Army - excellent on Frank Sinatra show - great harmonies with Sinatra (stay for Stuck on you); then movies (some good songs like Crawfish, Don’t be Cruel, Trouble, Return to Sender, Can’t help falling in love, GI Blues); 1968 Cmback Special is golden (start with Trying to get to you) and then 1970-73 Las Vegas - Just Pretend is a must, How Great thou art, Why me Lord. There are lovely duets between him and his daughter, like Don’t cry Daddy, In the ghetto, Where no one stands alone. Thank goodness for technology.❤

As commented below, Paul Simon said "How the hell am I supposed to match that?" I was privileged to get to hear Elvis live in the early 70's. Speaking of the price of tickets, my first Elvis concert had me driving with my boyfriend from Nashville to Louisville, KY, and the ticket. cost $10! You had to find out early, though, when the tickets would go on sale or they would sell out. There was no internet back then, and no cable TV. One of my teacher friends, knowing I had been an Elvis fan since early childhood, told me ahead of time that she had heard about the upcoming performance in Louisville that would be advertised the next day in the Sunday paper, and she urged me to order the tickets right then, which I did. Our seats were on the floor, and of course, there was a frenzy when Elvis came out and mostly what I remember is that everyone stood up, of course, and I could not see over them. Back then they did not have the screens to show close ups of the performer. I was able to see him two more times in my hometown of Nashville, but one of my biggest regrets today is that I never saw him live, in Vegas, in a more intimate setting. I would go in a heartbeat today, but back then I was a young, sheltered, Southern, single schoolteacher, and getting on a plane, flying to Vegas, and staying in a hotel is something I just would not have done back then, and surely could not afford. I have gone to Vegas to see several performers now, but it just never occurred to me to go to Vegas at that time. Yes, I do regret that, but am happy I did get to see him live three times, and I am thankful for the videos so I can experience his Vegas performances , his TV performances again, and for all the new young fans, like yourself, he is gaining from these videos. Keep in mind there was no autotune, and Elvis wore himself out performing in Vegas, always doing two shows a night, and sometimes three. It has been said that no one performs that much in Vegas now. Elvis has also, today, been described as a musical servant. I welcome you to the world of Elvis; he deserves all of these new fans. His music was everything to him. He took part in all the arrangements, and it has been said he was actually his own producer. His backup singers and band members knew to watch him at all times. There are classes taught in some universities about the Elvis phenomenon, but suffice it to say he was the first ever entertainer listened to by both black and white audiences. Before then, White people listened to white performers, and black people only listened to black performers. Elvis was white, but had the unique black sound. Elvis feared he would never be remembered. Not so! He is getting many young fans today who recognize his unique talent! RIP, Elvis. Job well done!

Love your reaction. This song is a part of „ That‘s the way it is“, a documantary with first part the rehearsals and second the songs from the concerts. In the rehearsals you can see how Elvis was working with this song. It‘s really great to see. (sorry for my bad english, its not my language).

Great reaction! Thanks for keeping Elvis alive… Please check out the Gospel songs ** 1972 live ( How Great Thou Art 2:48 ) light blue outfit Who else can put a gospel song in the middle of there show…NO ONE ONLY ELVIS CAN!! ** Elvis and daughter Lisa Marie duet who just passed away in Jan. Way to young like her daddy now their with each other again ( Where No One Stands Alone 3:41 ) she had a great voice too and she looked just like her dad Here’s a younger Elvis at 21yrs singing a Gospel song **1957 on the Ed Sullivan show ( Peace In The Valley 2:37 ) his voice control is amazing with any song Rip Lisa Marie 😇🕊️ Rip Elvis 😇🕊️

Great reaction guys, Elvis had the ability to draw in, if you want to listen to some of his Gospel songs try how Great thou art from 1972 or 1977.

Such a great reaction!!! 🔥 Everything u said was spot on!!! His voice had so many layers! He NEVER sang any song the same. His 72 version of this was soooo different and still amazing! Please react to his 68 Comeback Special in black leather sitting down Trying to get to You/Lawdy Miss Clawdy And 1972 How Great Thou Art live. Really enjoy u both & congrats on your channel getting more notice & growing!! 😊 TCB ⚡❤
