A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ KZfaq. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of KZfaq I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on KZfaq won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This KZfaq channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different
This is a reaction video used to educated and give my feedback on the song and artist

Elvis was a phenomenon. He essentially shot on the scene almost overnight. He just had IT. You hear of people saying someone has the IT factor, well Elvis had it in spades. He had so much charisma and stage presence. He captivated an audience. Everything from the tone of his voice, to his natural charisma, to his good nature and kindness, made Elvis The King of Rock and Roll. Not to mention his combining of different genre's of music to create the rock a billy sound that eventually turned into just Rock and Roll as we know it today. He really started a whole new genre and era of music just by singing the music he loved and grew up on and putting it together with music that made you move, and speaking of moves, his nickname back then that he actually never liked was Elvis the Pelvis. He moved on stage in a way that no other performer ever had before. The moves to him were just his natural way of feeling the music, he would shake his leg and move his hips a little while he sang but was totally not aware of how it was affecting his young fan base. He was a very risque and sexually provocative performer for the time period and the media and the church going crowd hated Elvis, saying he was of the devil and would corrupt their children. Elvis never did anything near what they do on stage today, He was pure and tame in comparison. Elvis was also a kind generous person who hired all of his friends to work for him so they had good income and they became known as The Memphis Mafia. They were his inner circle of trusted people. Some of them turned on his later on and wrote a hurtful tell all book about him. I don't think he ever really got over that betrayal but anyway, he would just take care of people he knew and even total strangers. He once bought a total stranger a new Cadillac just because he saw her staring into the window of a dealership. He also stood up for any injustice, racial or otherwise. He had a group of black backup singer called the Sweet Inspirations, and made a point to tell any hotel or venue that if they weren't welcome there then he wouldn't be there either. The Sweet inspirations had two members you may or may not have heard of, Cissy Houston, (Whitney Houston's mother) and Deon Warwick, ( Whitney Houston's aunt). The great Whitney Houston followed in their footsteps. So, to sum up your answer as to what made Elvis The King? Everything about him made him The King, which, by the way he hated to be called because he said their was only one King and that was Jesus Christ. Please react to Suspicious Minds live and If I Can Dream live from the 68 comeback special and look up the 68 Comeback Special if you want to see Elvis in great form, and pick any song from it to react to they were all great.

You're exactly right. I think that's pretty amazing. I see people on KZfaq knit picking him to death because there were clips where he stops the band and completely restarts a song because he's not happy about where he comes in on vocals or he hears a single note missed by the band.

Gary, please listen to the song "If I can dream" from the "68 comeback special and remember 2 things. He performed tis song twice, once in black leather and again in the white suit with red scarf. It's been a while since I read about it but I remember it was a single take at about. 3:00 a.m. and there was no audience remaining. You will notice he says "Thank you and goodnight." There's no applause yet notice how much heart he puts into this performance. It's as perfect as it could possibly be and he looks like a million bucks. With this in mind, check out the version he performed earlier in the night in black leather with an audience literally At His Feet! It was amazing but he wasn't satisfied with that cut. I'm a little biased but I truly believe that is one of the single best vocal performances ever and it touches people from all walks of life..... Jason

@@ravenstone366 You are absolutly right! He broke boundaries, he was humble and he always wanted to give! But you mixed something up, i guess. The story to leave his background singers The Sweet Inspirations at home took place 2 years before in 1970. They should play at the Astrodome, Houston/Texas. He told them...."if my girls aren't welcome, i don't feel welcome"! Finally he did this concert w i t h his girls! But Cissy Houston wasn't one of them. She was only 5 weeks in 1969 with him and the Sweets.

Elvis had it all looks, talent, versatile many genres, always strived to stay relavent love and respected others took time for his fans He was genuine and caring No not just as many can sing as good as Elvis Elvis always sounds like a man no matter how high the note. Elvis is smoother than all the others, no obvious breaks between lyrics . Elvis was crowned king of rock and roll before the army days Elvis moved beyond that mere title To be The Mountain. People have had 60s years to surpass his achievements they can't.

The package! Voice, moves, charisma, looks. He had soul. He started a new sound - a fusion between the gospel music that influenced him growing up in a poor neighbourhood with mostly black people - and country/western music. Nobody used to move on stage before Elvis entered. He started the modern era of music. The sexual revolution. Suddenly girls allowed themselfs to be free from the conservativism their parents lived under. They got a voice and used it. The rock`n roll music was not started by Elvis, but he sure as hell kicked it into the mainstream and got the hate and love for it. He could sing anything from raw rock`n roll (see the 68 comeback special), gospel, etc.

Elvis brought his entire career to a dead stop and joined the army. He loved America so much, he was willing to die for it even when he had the most to lose. This, and thousands of other things he did in his life, are reasons why he was called the King. It's not just one thing. He loved people, all people, and it showed at all times. The man was all heart even off the stage. That and in the later part of his career, he was a Led Zeppelin fan.

Listen to his gospel music. Also American Trilogy. Elvis blended all musical genres into one. Be aware that Elvis' back up singers were the Sweet Inspirations. They were comprised of Cissy Houston (mother of Whitney Houston and aunt of Dee Dee and Dionne Warwick), Estelle Brown, Sylvia Shemwell, and Myrna Smith. Elvis was scheduled to open the Houston Astrodome with a concert in 1965. The Astrodome would go on to be the first indoor sports arena. It would be the home of the Houston Astros (MLB ) and the Houston Oilers (AFL and NFL). When Elvis and his band went to check into the Ramada Inn, the Sweet Inspirations were denied entry because they were African-American. Remember it was 1965 and the Jim Crow segregation laws prevailed in the south. Elvis demanded that they be given lodging. The hotel manager still refused them entry. Elvis told his manager that they were canceling the concerts. Keep in mind that the Astrodome seated 50,000 people and they were scheduled to perform on 3 consecutive nights. Within a few minutes and several phone calls, the hotel decided to rescind being segregated and allowed Elvis and his band to stay there. Pretty interesting history story.

Tim, your story is pretty close, but there is a video of Myrna Smith telling what happened in "Elvis and the black community {part 1})where she says that they were to play the Astrodome in 1970 and the promoters asked Elvis to leave "the black girls" behind when he came that they were not welcome. Elvis said he wasn't coming if he couldn't bring his girls and if they didn't like it then he wouldn't be there and deal with it. She said not only did the get to come but were given first class treatment, and even a little blonde girl had to drive them to the show in an open convertible.

He was known for rock & roll; which was easy for him, what he craved most was the artistic challenge of other genres. Gospel, Rhythm & Blues, Country, and Pop standards. No other artist is in the rock/country/r&b/gospel hall of fames. In the 50's before he went in the Army and RCA had him recording too much rock he told his A&R man (Steve Sholes) "man, I can do more than just belt you know." Because other artists could not compete with him they accused him of selling out, especially the Beatles...nevermind that they themselves did not want to be hemmed in with Hard Days Night, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, etc, etc.

Because Elvis was the first one to do the moves that he did, and wasn't afraid to do it, he danced around the stage like no one had ever seen before, and he had soul, he grew up in the ghetto of Memphis, he had away of captivating the audience such a showman.., Elvis died a week before my 11th birthday, and you would have thought someone in the family had died, my mom lost it, just to say my birthday, wasn't that great that year.

Great reaction! I just subscribed. 😁 When Elvis first hit the scene in the early 1950’s, Rock N’ Roll was a new, dangerous sound for America. Parents were scared of it. 😁 Many people were performing Rock music, but Elvis Presley (humbly so) said that he just got very lucky at a time that the young kids were looking for a new sound. But Elvis really had it all! He was handsome, he moved around a lot when he danced, sang great & had hell of a lot of talent! So his popularity skyrocketed from that & Elvis also grew as an artist. Then he became a Legend! 😁🕺🏻🎶

Good Question! Best answer to your question I can give is something that one pop culture historian touched on a few years ago. It's something that most other music historians and pop culture analysts overlooked when it comes to Elvis ....but this particular one noted that the huge difference between Elvis (compared to almost all of his other musical peers and contemporaries of his era) is that *he was one of the most eclectic* or versatile (Blues Legend BB King touched on this in an interview talking about his friend Elvis) He was influenced by and sang multiple different genres of music, instead of just one genre.. like other artists. Most country singers were strictly country Most rock singers were strictly Rock Most ballad singer strictly ballads R&B singers strictly R&B Gospel strictly gospel ........ but Elvis was ALL of those. They were all part of his influence going back to his childhood, and he sang all of those different genres. So his reach was broader. He was much more than just rock and roll (a bit ironic that he's mostly associated with rock when in reality he sang so much more or different music than Rock) So in other words his music was Universal. Its why many people around the country, and even around the world for that matter, so strongly connected with Elvis is an artist.... he just had so much to offer. There are people from back in the day that lived in other parts of the world that said they learned English language through memorizing Elvis's songs Crazy and amazing to me to think about that but what a compliment to Elvis. Their only connection to America was Elvis and his music. Even though they couldn't speak English his music still connected with people in other parts of the world. That might explain why there are statues of Elvis in multiple different cities around the globe to this day. Another friend of Elvis', Muhammad Ali, told journalist Danny Baker that when he was traveling in a third world part of Africa in the middle of nowhere, a remote Village where the people of the tribe knew very little about America, Muhammad said he walked into a hut and the only thing inside the hut was a table with a Bible. When he picked up the Bible and opened it up there was a photo of Elvis inside. What a fascinating antidote from the Champ He was trying to point out that no matter where he traveled in the world ...even the most far away places.. Elvis somehow reaches people in every part of the world. Anyway enjoyed your reaction

The vocal quality and diversity is probably the most important thing to understand . He sounds different but is just as grand in all his manifestations. Fans and critics alike try to pigeonhole him to their favorite view. You tube reactions have cleared some of that fog. Elvis became a star when rock was new. He became the biggest and brightest and not just because he was the whitest. Jailhouse Rock displays the quintessential rock vocal from the quintessential rock vocalist of all time (per Paul McCartney). Best examples:the Jailhouse Rock video 57 and Hound Dog from the Milton Berle show. In the 60s his voice became stronger and more controlled capable of operatic songs like Now or Never and beautiful ballads like Can't Help Falling in Love from Blue Hawaii. He still sang rock and pop but some missed the edgier early sound. Still the song Return to Sender was pretty good. Then the Beatles arrived and dominated pop culture for most of the 60s. But Elvis roared back in 68 in a TV special with a lionesque voice more powerful and mature than before. Key songs to react to would be If I Can Dream and Trying to Get to You. Critic Greil Marcus said this is music that bleeds and might be the finest rock n roll ever made. In the 70s Elvis started doing shows in Vegas and concert tours around the country. Until the 68 special he made mostly movies in the 60s rather than live shows. In the 70s his voice became richer and stronger. Elvis version of Bridge Over Troubled Waters (especially the 70 version) made it his own. A good react video from this time would be Suspicious Minds from the 1970 Vegas shows. Other good choices would be American Trilogy and Burning Love from the Hawaii concert of 1973. Some fans and critics still pine away for the past and consider the 70s a wash. But he still sold a lot of records and sold out his shows. Bono said this period was underrated noting that at his weakest he was capable of magnificent vocal performances in songs like Hurt in 1976 and others. It's ironic that react vloggers who are exposed to older music often prefer the late 60s and 70s Presley releases because of the soulfulness and gospel qualities in his voice. You have to look at the whole career to get the big picture. It's only a little over 20 years but it's over 800 songs and over a billion sold records.

@@williamquinlan2193 Very good points. Even your mention of how many people consider the 1970s (the final wave of his career) to be somewhat throwaway years... Yet the facts actually show those years were anything but throwaway. One highly reputable Musical Source from that era documented a prime example of this when in first week of May of 1973, BILLBOARD Magazine, (always known for listing the hottest new contemporary artists and music of the day on the music charts) ... listed the Number One album for the week. Among all these greats below from that era that were on charts - - - *Stevie Wonder *Led Zeppelin *Bread *Pink Floyd *The Beatles - (They had 2 albums charting at that time .... The Beatles: 1962-1966 & The Beatles: 1967-1970) *Temptations *Gladys Knight and the Pips *Diana Ross *Elton John *Carly Simon And Listed above All of them at number #1. was Elvis Presley With his Live album "Aloha From Hawaii" topping the charts. Artists don't Top charts with an album by accident. And again, this was May if '73. I always think of this forgotten chart-listing whenever I hear people dismiss Elvis of 1970s. It's a miopic, detached mindset. I always point out that there are a whole lot of *other* artists that would have LOVED to have had Elvis' chart numbers & sales and touring success of the 1970's. All anyone has to do is just ask them. I think the only explanation for that ongoing viewpoint by some who under-rate his later years, is that Elvis' arrival on the musical landscape in 1950s was *SO* explosive and almost culture-shifting, that some these people often, unconsciously, they measure Elvis against himself - meaning they measure Elvis of the later years of 1970s against Elvis of the 1950s. But we can't do that. It's not logical. Nobody, no artist, (not even Elvis himself) could ever come along after and recreate or have that type of impact. The 1950s Elvis was its own thing. There's nothing else to compare it to...before or after. So, by comparison, people say "Elvis of 1970s was far less than Elvis of 1950s". Well, lol, yeah, and EVERYBODY else (other artists) were as well. But you are so right. The 1970s material has so much to offer and still touches people today when they just give it an honest chance.

I think Elvis is special because of his "Cinderella Story" - quite literally a rag-to-riches story. He sings from the heart and soul because his life as a child was dirt poor. His baritone voice with that unmistakable bravado is so iconic. He took gospel, R&B, and country and turned it into something wild and different - one of the true founders of rock and roll. Thanks for bringing back great memories. If you want a truly touching Elvis song react to "If I Can Dream". He definitely puts his soul in that song.
