We take it for granted now, but in that day this was blow-your-mind music, pioneering and off the trail. The other thing that gets me that any of these girls still alive are in their 80's and 90's.

What we should remember is that, although today the addiction/overdose potential of prescription drugs is common knowledge, back in the 70s, that wasn't the case. I guess we learned the hard way. RIP, Elvis, the original "hillbilly cat."

I was 13 years old when my sister took me to see Elvis in concert in 1974 !! 7 rows from the stage and let me tell you Elvis wasn’t all I seen ! Women were throwing there shirts and bras on the stage ! Just for a second I did check them out ! 😂…. But all joking aside seeing Elvis live was an incredible experience ! Mesmerizing is the right word when it came to this . This was the moment that music changed for me and millions others. He became "THE KING" and he still is even to this day !!!!

He's 21 here. Can you imagine that. Millions of people watching on television and a screaming audience. And you should definitely check out the studio cut. And I would say that of a lot of these especially the early ones. Those recordings were revolutionary and that's why he had so many hits in a row. As others have said, you should check out his performance earlier that year and I think maybe June of 1956, on the Milton Berle variety show. This is the one that really set off a firestorm and why they would often only film him from the waist up sometimes doing his dance moves after that. If you can, make sure to find the longer version because in that one, right when the song is supposed to be over, Elvis decides to keep it going but at half-speed where he really exaggerated his dance move in the audience goes crazy and his band adjust and goes right along with them, because they were used to Elvis being unpredictable, and it was unpredictable in his life shows all the way up to the end. He always had the best musicians and bands around him. Even back in this early day.

Elvis was 21 when this was televised in 1956. At that point - half his life was over! Hard to believe. It's good to know his music is still being appreciated all these years later.

So why were they going crazy? It was going crazy because the studio is filled with young people that were ready for a new sound. They were rebellious against the social elites of the day and Elvis was already in a lot of trouble and banned from venues across the south. They were threatening to throw him in jail and he was already getting death threats. In addition, if a restaurant or bar played an Elvis song, there would be threats of violence from local gangs and community groups. But when Elvis got invited by Ed Sullivan to do his thing almost every TV in America was tuned in. Elvis changed the world in that one song. He changed the music business with that one performance. The old music was dead on that night. The music business and the country were being mobilized by young people. Soon the civil rights movement would break open in just a few years. Elvis caused the very first dam to break to tear down that wall of hate. He doesn’t get enough credit for that.

Elvis also was drafted and served in the Army after he was already famous. It was a big deal when they cut his hair off. Girls cried.

I agree with some of the other comments you really need to do the Milton Berle Show of him singing this song much more wild in fact it was at that performance where the adults were in an up rage & called it vulgar it was FANTASTIC! Raw Elvis you would be doing yourself disservice if you don’t react to that show & do the whole segment with dialogue you will see Elvis’s charisma full on & his funny side it was so GOOD! My theory as to why Elvis became so popular in the 50s with the ladies is that apart from the talent, looks and charisma, Elvis projected both vulnerability (before and after the song) and a sense of danger, during the song. The bad boy who needed to be protected. An unbelievable, unique and irresistible combination.

White folk did NOT dance like this on stage so when they saw it they went nuts ❤ and it made them more curious about black music so this is what they mean when they say he opened the door for black artists in regards to mainstream tv and shows. Not in the way of he took black music and made it possible but more like holding the door open for them to shine ✨. I'm sure if it wasn't for Elvis breaking that mold then r&b and rock would have taken much longer to be accepted

My niece she’s only young she’s 7 and this song hound and jail house rock has been her favourite since she was only 8months old in her baby chair . I remember when we would go out driving in the car & she was about 12months by this time and before we would leave my house the only way to get her in her chair and stop her from crying we would put on her favourite songs of Elvis Presleys which is jail house & hound dog all she would do Is laugh and dance and when the song was finished she would cry for me to put the song back on again 😂

He might have been in his late teens, early twenties anyway. He was having fun with the leg and hip movements here. So many early on were amazed at how his whole body moved and grooved, they called him elvis the pelvis. And it had so caught on that he was having fun with it here. But some of his other early stuff, it was just natural rhythm, him having fun and his whole body taking up the rhythm.

The interesting thing is that his performance and movements were actually a little toned down, because the networks and Ed Sullivan demanded it as a condition of even having Elvis appear on the show. I'm sure you don't know this but when Elvis was starting out along with a lot of R&R and even country stars like Lorretta Lynn and Johnny Cash. (they actually traveled from place to place when starting out together at little Country Fairs, etc; They were pushed sooooo Hard with no rest they were exhausted and that's what got them started on the pills. Colonel Parker is someone you need to look into. He began the death of Elvis. He was a monster and a crook but Elvis was so grateful to him that it took him forever to finally ditch him but by then most of damage of the prescription drugs was already done. A lot of hollywood doctors were in on it too. They were bought out and they got the stars hooked, they would supply them the drugs. Just wanted you to know some of the history. Enjoyed your videos! I got to tell you that she talked about how loud the crowd is that was normal for most concerts back in the day because there were so many great acts and people would just go crazy screaming and stuff I mean look at how many you've already reviewed you and you're starting to get a feel for what it was like back then and it was absolutely insane some of them concerts. When I was in the Air Force The Doobie Brothers how to open air concert for the military for free there were several military bases in San Antonio and they held a free concert for all the military guys the crowd was huge The Doobie Brothers were great and it was so loud I swear it took a couple hours after that concert was over so I could start to halfway here anything it was just so crazy and that was the Doobie Brothers and they're really really good but there is groups way better and just imagine how the crowds with Scream of the Elvis concert or a concert for the Bee Gees or the Beatles or The Temptations and dozens of other acts just as good.

Elvis got all his medication from his doctors. Uppers to perform, downers to unwind. It got out of control and no doctor would tell Elvis no. He was against drugs use, but his was prescribed. 😢

You should’ve checked out Hound Dog from Milton Berle Show it was much better and funnier, but every seems to do the same video from Ed Sullivan Show. I’ve seen only a few do the Milton Berle Show when Elvis did an extended improvised version that his band wasn’t expecting but jumped right in.

Yes this is a good version but the best and most controversial performance of hound dog was the milton burle show!!! That was brilliant, Elvis could move, his legs will blow your mind 😅👍🏻

I don't know if you reviewed the Elvis videos yet of Elvis Presley in the black community I think there's two of them now part one and part two but you haven't had a chance to review those you ought to check those out because Elvis had a great rapport with the black community and he did a lot of great stuff for them and I'm telling you the black community loved Elvis Presley so you're you're getting to see what everyone before you has already seen and now you can see why he was so beloved.

He had a 23 year career with over 700 songs and 31 movies. He is the best selling single artist of all time. Over a billion recordings. He is in 5 music halls of fame. He sang everything especially gospel for which he won 3 Grammys. Please check out his struggles in the 50's and how he was persecuted trying to do his music.
