I told my friends/co-workers that "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" by Panic At the Disco is one of the best white boy songs I've ever heard. Now they're sending me song suggestions and I'm doing live reactions here, on the Trying White Music series lmao

I once read that Corey Taylor had heard a homeless man say: "You can't see California without Marlon Brando's eyes". He found that so interesting he wrote this song about it. I read that a loooong time ago, so take it with a grain of salt ;)

Disasterpiece is also CRAZY. The lyrical content is really graphic (it's essentially the inner thoughts of a kid who's relentlessly bullied in school) but god DAMN do the instrumentals, specifically the drums, go hard as FUCK.

This was the first Slipknot I ever heard. They were playing a festival in 99 a short time after this album dropped, and they opened their set with this track. I had gone to see Primus, System of a Down, Machine Head, and others but left blown away by these guys. Bought the CD at Newbury Comics the next day. Dude at the counter had no idea who I was talking about, lmao. To this day my favorite Slipknot song.

ozzfest 99. system of a down, deftones, godsmack, slayer, rob zombie. all were there, but i consistently tell everyone that slipknot's performance there blew every other band away and cemented their road to stardom. 14 year old me was so impressed, and paying to attention to the rest of the crowd walking away from the stage after their set, so was everyone else.

Good call getting on the Slipknot bandwagon, saw them live for the 8th time when they came nearby in 2022, a banging performance each time! 🤟 The musicality is hard AF and they also have one of my favorite ballad called "Goodbye" (for context, it's about a former member who died). Read the wiki sometimes, all those band you did so far got good entries. Otherwise for the bang factor I suggest "All hope is Gone" and "Disasterpiece" next 😁😁

Eyeless is in SK's top 5 tracks for sure. I will always give the no1 spot to Surfacing as it was my intro to them(who I'd never heard of when I saw them live in early '99 and a good portion of the crowd went ape during the chorus) but Spit it Out, Sic, Left Behind, Heretic Anthem and Dilated. I dont mess with the new stuff and I feel like their best tracks are all from the first 2, maybe 3 albums when they were truly still a unique force in the metal game. I hope you check out some classic Tool soon. I'd like to see your reaction to Sober, Anema or The Pot
