When Foreigner tours, they ask a local youth choir to perform this and donate part of the ticket sales to a charity of choir's choice. That way they are showing what love is.

As Led Zeppelin dropped out in 1979, young, new 70s bands like Boston , Foreigner, Queen, The Eagles, Earth Wind & Fire. and on and on and on and on...well, I think you know where I'm heading. The Newbies were jumping from the heat into the fire because ABBA, THE Begees, Heart, Kansas, The Commodores, Prince, The Cars, the Police, Linda Ronstadt, Pat Benatar, ELO, Chicago...and on and on and on and another Looooong ride and they weren't about to give up their place at the table!

This song was a absolute monster of a hit. A billboard number one of course sung by every major star at the time including Diana Ross at a live aid benefit with Patti labelle and George Michaels. It’s one of my all time favorites. That’s the New Jersey mass choir behind him

I have to wonder was this done on purpose for that exact reason..to bait people into watching them by initially making them think they were clicking on the Twins. Well, it didn't work. Foreigner! Great band from the 70s and 80s. It is great catalogue you got to get into. They have rockers like “Hot Blooded” and “Cold As Ice”, “Feels Like the First Time” and got great ballads like this song and “Waiting for a Girl Like You” they got some range! FYI: Lead singer is Lou Gramm.

Lou Gramm - one of the greatest vocalists ever, and he's an amazing person. He's been through so much. I love Foreigner; you definitely have to check out their 70s stuff. It's a travesty that this was their only #1 song. I love that so many comments mention the skating rink. This and Van Halen's Jump always make me think of skating.

@@marshill3101 I'm pretty sure he had a brain tumour but that was later in his life but he struggled with his voice etc for years because of neurological issues

Yep, at age 37 he was diagnosed with a brain tumor which was benign, but the removal surgery damaged his pituitary gland and caused him to gain a ton of weight and also affected his voice. I remember seeing a video of him singing Waiting For A Girl Like You, and it was the first I'd seen or heard him since all that, and he looked unrecognizable, and sounded so awful that I literally cried. It was really bad. I saw another video later on where he spoke of looking in the mirror and it was like looking at a stranger. I can't even imagine. He's worked so hard all these years to get his voice back; and while I don't think he'll ever sound exactly like he used to (some of that I'm sure is due to normal aging too, he's 71 now), he's not that far off.

The link between Foreigner + The Cars is Mutt Lange. He produced 4 with Mick Jones in 1981. In 1984, Thomas Dolby, who played synths in that album, sang She Blinded Me with Science with Mutt in 1982, + olayed synths in the 1983 Def Leppard album Pyromania, was in the house of Mutt. Ric Ocasek came by. The meeting led to Mutt Lange producing the album Heartbeat City with The Cars . From the tweet on the passing of Ric Ocasek in 2019. RIP.

This song propelled Foreigner from being a top rock band of the late 70's and early 80's to a super group in 1984. The 80's were by far the best decade for music during the rock/pop era because of how many groups became super groups and/or super acts. I love your reactions! This is a great one! The chorus makes me think of “We Are the World!” From 1985 and was made to support USA for Africa. Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and had the absolute biggest artists popular music at that time. There was a remake done after the Haiti earthquake. I think you will both love it!

My two favorite bangers of theirs are URGENT and COLD AS ICE. They are classic rock and roll. How about some more funky pop songs like Kool and the Gang with CELEBRATION or KC and the Sunshine Band , I AM YOUR BOOGIE MAN , you will love the 70s fashion in both!
