George was 17 when he WROTE this classic. I'm being soooo low key in this comment as one of his greatest fans since day one back in the 80s. Listen, LISTEN. Go back and find Cowboys & Angels, Fast Love, I Want Your Sex, Everything She Wants (from Wham! his megastar duo with his best friend Andrew), I Knew You Were Waiting (with Aretha Franklin. Just find his GREATEST HITS! So much greatness to discover.

George wrote, composed, and produced his music. This is what he said about Careless Whisper (written at 17): “I have always written on buses, trains and in cars. With "Careless Whisper" I remember exactly where it first came to me, where I came up with the sax line... I remember I was handing the money over to the guy on the bus and I got this line, the sax line... I wrote it totally in my head. I worked on it for about three months in my head."

George was 17 when he wrote this track. Took 10 sax players to try out before he found the right one. There are many great artists out there. But they are always looking for that great song, that great producer that great musical director. Not George MIchael, he wrote, sang, produced and did most of the music to all his tracks. He also did it with the WHAM songs. He did it HIS way. I'll never see another George MIchael in my lifetime. HIs band and backup singers were also great. Many stayed with him since his WHAM days. He collaborated with the best of them, Aretha (won the grammy for best duet), Whitney, Stevie, Smokey, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Queen, Elton, Garth Brooks, Elton, Beyonce, Pavarotti, etc. etc. etc. My fav will always be "As" with Mary J. Blige.

Not many people who can write, produce, play all the instruments (and oh sing their own songs too) when in their teens/twenties. That was George Michael. Watch anything live from him…never a wrong note…perfection. Watch him hold his own with powerhouse women like Aretha Franklin, Mary J Blige and Whitney Houston. Watch him pay tribute to one of his friends and idol Freddy Mercury at the Freddy Mercury Tribute Concert where he blew everyone away. George died on Christmas Day and only after his death did we start to hear about all the charities he supported and individuals he help out financially that he didn’t even know but learned they needed help. He never told anyone about the things he did, that is not why he did it. How many superstars can you think of today or ever that would do that? George had a lot of loss in his life that he never recovered from. I miss him so much but like to think of him with his first love Anselmo, his mum Lesley and his little sister Melanie who died exactly 3 years after George on Christmas Day 2019. RIP George. I hope you are happy and at peace. Beautiful person with an angel voice.

This had an unsusual marketing Strategy. In the US it was released as "Careless Whisper" by Wham Featuring George Michael but in England, it was released as a Solo Song. Although Andrew Ridgeley Co Wrote it, to many folks it was "George's Song" all the way. In it's own way it would do for him what "Gone" did for Justin Timberlake in N'Sync. He really was the First Blue Eyed Soul Superstar for The Video Age who kicked the door open not only for Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, Ed Sheeran, and Sam Smith in The UK. It was song of the year and even today it is the most popular Song on Adult Contemporary/Easy Listening Stations. If you can, check out "Last Xmas" which is a Staple on UK Soaps.

his song, ONE MORE TRY, im indebted to him for writing and singing that song. that song has saved my life, on numerous occasions, all because when you reach the very end of the song, the last words he sings are "maybe...just one more try." the entire song is about he no longer wants to try, hes sad hes angry he feels left behind and numb and depressed and despondent. he convinces himself hes truly done with everything, until he gets to the "maybe...just one more try." that song....has saved my LIFE. RIP George Michael!

Sax is what got you for sure. Lol George Michael is a rabbit hole if you havent done much of him yet. He has 8 or 10 great songs. Many to choose from but I would suggest "Dont let the sun go down on me" Live with Elton John. You will get to see both of their voices on display, live and get to see how great of entertainers they are as well. George became a legend of one generation while Elton became a legend of the generation before it. That recording is also like a passing of the torch from 1 generation to the next. 1 great vocalist passing the torch to the next great vocalist. George has a bunch of great songs.
