George Michael is one of the most UNDERRATED song writers of Rock/Pop music. The man was a vocal talent, producer talent that has been sadly ignored because he's considered a "Pop Star". The man has the writing chops to hold his own with any of the greats that get more credit then him.
@revgurley
@revgurley 9 ай бұрын
The opening sample is "I Want Your Sex" that he recorded prior to this song, and also worth a watch/listen. The organ played a sample of "Freedom." I'd like to recommend another Tears For Fears song - Sowing The Seeds of Love. Very complex, like Bohemian Rhapsody, but not as story-telling. One of TFF's best songs from the 80s. Their new album (2022) The Tipping Point, is also worth a listen.

The organ is a recreation and interpretation of the Wham song Freedom not sampled from the actual song itself although there is an organ towards the end of song but it's not the same exact rendition and same organ sound.

@@oskarobit I hear that. "Happy Ending" wasn't well publicized, though they did tour for it. Took another 17 to put out Tipping Point. I basically stopped listening to "pop" music in the mid'90s as well. But occasionally, a band or artist will put out something new, and I'm all for that!

I highly recommend George Michael's "Freedom '90". He was a heart-throb music icon in the 80s, then he finally came out of the closet (at a time when it wasn't generally well accepted). Powerful, lively song! Also, for a great pop song with some great organ music similar to the clip at the beginning, try U2 "Where The Streets Have No Name"!

So glad you enjoyed this one. Other great songs by George Michael are "Father Figure", "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" (a duet with Sir Elton John), Freedom 90, "I Knew You Were Waiting for Me" (a duet with Aretha Franklin), and "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" (when he was with the band Wham). We definitely lost him way too soon as he passed away in 2016 at only 53. About jukeboxes: I loved them as a kid growing up in the 1960's & 70's. My favorite thing was when a diner had a mini box at the table that was hooked up to their jukebox. You could flip through the songs and put your money in right at the table while you were eating. When I was young you would get 3 songs for a dime and later it went to 3 songs for a quarter. They were most popular from the 1940's through the mid-1960's, but could still be found in a lot of places in the 70's and into the 80's. By the late 1990's and early 2000's the only place I personally knew of that still had one was a hot dog place in Chicago called Fluky's and it was a quarter per song. Unfortunately both Fluky's and jukeboxes are gone now.

You need to check out many more of his big hits. He is one of the best solo male artists of the 20th century. Try 'Freedom 90", it follows on a few years after from this song and is about how he went on to feel he needed to escape the image the public and media wanted him to uphold as a result of the iconic success of the song Faith and how he appeared in that video and around that time.
