I can't express enough how grateful I am to have grown up in the 70s and 80s. It was so, so special, and that feeling of genuine fun and joy is just gone in general, and specifically in music now. We really did feel like this during the 80s, just so much more carefree and fun

Jennifer Beals was not a professional dancer although she did the head shots. During the harder dance moves French dancer and actress Marine Jahan doubled for her. During that dance scene in the video, they also had a gymnast Sharon Shapiro double doing the flying and flip move and a male 16 year old break dancer Richard "Crazy Legs" Colon double for her doing the whip backspin moves. His group "Rocky Steady Crew" had a bit part in the film. Saw this film years ago as a kid it's quite good.

Secret fun fact, some of the more difficult dance scenes, like the audition scene shown in the video, were actually done by a professional male dancer, not by Jennifer.

2 things about this film. Not only was in extremely low budget to make with huge success for the 83 year but it also came at a time where it seems nobody blinked an eye at serious age gaps. Jennifer Beals was 19 filming and her boyfriend Michael Nouri was either 37 or 38. Song was pure fire at the time and Beals cut out sweatshirts became a fashion for a while.

There was a big lawsuit as a result of this movie. Jennifer Beals was credited for the dancing while she had a body double for the dancing scenes. The dancer was not credited in any way and she sued. It was a big thing for awhile. I love Jennifer though - she has a lot of range as an actress and has grown so much since Flashdance days. She was in The L Word and a bunch of movies and tv, and can be seen most recently in Law and Order: Organized Crime. She is supposed to be the innocent art gallery owner and wife to Marcy Killer Gang leader (the inimitable and ridiculously handsome Mykelti Williamson) but in fact, she has her hands just as dirty!

I want to say it was for the Olympic skating team, but I'm not sure. So the movie is mainly about fighting your fear and going for your dreams.
