The ending gives me chills every time. It’s not “there’s nothing that anyone *could* do,” it’s “there’s nothing that anyone *would* do.” Putting the blame on us for choosing to ignore the signs because we feel like it isn’t our place instead of actually doing something about it. Powerful stuff

When I grew up it was more important to save face in front of people. don't let people talk. if you saw something you were taught to ignore it because that's someone else business and what will they say about you if you rock the boat, etc etc. I wished people would have said stuff. I was like Alyssa, and taught that everyone condoned it, just don't show it cause what will they say. It shouldn't be on the kids to say something.

Mr. Anton, My older brother Lenny and I were abused by both of our parents. We would go to school with slap marks on our faces with bruises, busted lips, belt marks, bruised and bloody knuckles where they used items on our hands but from 1st grade-12th grades no neighbors, no bus drivers, no teachers, no school principals, no family members who saw and heard the abuse, none of them bothered to help us. In fact, my mother, during one of her rage filled beatings caused a Detached Retina in my left eye when I had started 6th grade(October 1976) and the next morning I was having emergency eye surgery. I have never been able to see out of that since, and now, since my right eye has been doing the work for both eyes since October 1976, I been diagnosed as going completely blind and that there is nothing that can be done. PARENTS, PLEASE LOVE YOUR CHILDREN. There IS a difference between a spanking and a beating.

This song had just as powerful an effect on me as it did you. As a father of two young kids I cannot imagine any parent ever harming their kids. I've heard this song more times than I can count and it always hits me in the feels. My heart goes out to those kids and I thank Country Music for songs like this that sheds light on this issue and hopefully helps and heals those who need it. Jason said it's so emotionally hard for him to sing this song but it's what his fans want to hear when at his concerts. Please also check out The Little Girl by John Michael Montgomery and Independence Day by Martina McBride.

This song is soooooooo sad and unfortunately so true for so many kids. I just want to reach through and hold Alyssa 🙏 I adopted my son out of a situation like this. Hes now 24 and I wouldn't change a thing. You should try Blaine Larson How do you get that lonely

I heard this song many years ago. It makes me cry every time. The lyrics at the end when it says alyssa doesn't lie anymore because no one would do anything. We can't be silent when we see abuse. Another one you should hear is ....Dear Mr. Jesus. By power source.

This composite video keeps going back to the classroom of students watching the actual video. The looks show hiw many have either known abuse or known an Bused classmate. When the one gets up and flees the room, i list it.

My mother used paint sticks because she was told they don’t leave a mark and no one will know. Then she would tape up them up together. They end up leaving a mark but no one even family would do anything. I stopped talking to them years ago.

I wish no kids had to deal with this. I've dealt with domestic violence and other types of assault. The look where she has her arms like hugging herself gets me....as much as I hate to say this I literally was walking around work with my arms around myself holding myself and holding my stomach....I bartend and ended up alone with a man I thought I could trust I close every week night alone. I'm getting ready to go back to the same place and work until close. Just a bit of a struggle to go back. Anyway I'm rambling this is a good reaction.

In my hometown in the 60's you had no one to go to for help. Telling would just get you beaten even worse.

This was my childhood. I was beat so bad by my biological father that he almost killed me multiple times. When I was 9 I was tied to a bed and raped repeatedly by a step-cousin and no one would believe me. I was finally taken away from him after he molested my older sister and got her pregnant then killed the baby by nearly killing her. But for the Grace of God this could have been me and my sisters
