Hendrix wrote this song and performed it at Woodstock some 15 years before SRV did Voodoo Child in the video you saw earlier. Jimi was a guitar pioneer because NOBODY was playing a guitar like this before Jimi came along in the 60s. SRV copied/borrowed Jimi's showmanship, playing with teeth (SRV does that too), playing behind back and with fret hand only. They both left us early in their lives, but Jimi pioneered this style of play and SRV took it to the next level in terms of guitar playing excellence. The studio version of this song, from the album Electric Ladyland is not on youtube, at least I cannot find it. The original version has a long middle part where Jimi and Steve Winwood go back on forth on guitar and organ. It's my fav Hendrix song. There is a shorter version on the Electric Ladyland album called Voodoo Child (slight return) that lacks Winwood's organ. You can find that version on youtube and it is the studio version. People will just have to buy Electric Ladyland CD to hear the long version of Voodoo 'Chile', I suppose. It's a great album, btw, with another great Hendrix song, All Along The Watchtower.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that SRV took Jimi's sound to the next level. Jimi was very creative. I didn't get that type of vibe from SRV . SRV was a damn good at what he did, but when it comes to originality Hendrix got it. I mean when was the last time you've heard of a guitarist refer to a chord as "SRV Chord" ?
@rebeccabailey527
@rebeccabailey527 2 жыл бұрын
@@BlackMusicGenre exactly. SRV was a lick based player, Jimi could go as far out as he wanted, didn't have to think, and it all worked, SRV just played old tired licks. SRV couldn't even play the riff to voodoo child slight return correctly. And his cover of little wing was nothing but butchery.

The greatest guitarist of all time. Everyone who thinks they're anyone with a guitar, copies this song, but if you look at Hendrix's versions of this song, no two versions are the same. His catalog of guitar songs, is second to none, and he was an even better blues guitarist than a rock guitarist. The electronics he created these songs with, were primitive by today's standards.

So it is a reaction to your comment but in actuality aimed at the people who post the videos and people who watch these videos who are not really familiar with Jimi Hendrix. In all fairness, you suggested Hey Joe and your selling point was the fact that he played with his teeth. I'm sure you love Jimi for all the right reasons/the whole package.

@@hesch-tag I understand your thinking but I think you should understand that not everyone will be impressed by Jimi's songs, for some people it's just another rock/rock-blues (and if you doubt it, they don't even like the genre) and what will it call more Their attention will be what he did on stage with his guitar.

@@LéoCarvalho98 I can agree with that. It might be a way to draw them in and they might learn to appreciate the songs as well. Valid points.

They EDITED that version BIG TIME !!!! THAT'S NOT THE FULL LENGHT of VOODOO CHILD FROM WOODSTOCK PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!! Yes Jimi played with his teeth and behind his back at other shows!! JIMI started it and STEVIE picked up where JIMI left off !! 😍🔥🎸 !! I have the TRUE UNEDITED version of VooDoo Child on a cd you can buy !! Im tired of hearing that EDITED version!!

SO, FIRST, IT'S A SHIT CUTED OFF VERSION! I HATE THAT! YOU ONLY SAW A HALF, EVEN LESS, OF THAT LEGENDARY VERSION! Then, yes, JIMI was playing solo, with his teeth, behind his back, between the legs, he burned guitars, etc.... he was shy in his life, but a wild beast on stage! Steve was an absolutely fan from JIMI, he picked up everything from him!

I don't know if you caught it or not, but Jimi was a left handed player as well. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jimi learn on a right handed guitar and just flipped it over.

Jimi's first strat was a RH version. Tuning knobs are supposed to be on top but Jimi turned it around so tuning knobs are on the bottom. That's how you know it is a RH strat. However, Jimi set the strings correctly, so he is making chords in traditional ways.

@@hongfang2508 All that is true, but according to Noel Redding and others Jimi could also take someone's right handed guitar and flip it and play it without re stringing it. He often sat in and jammed with people , borrowing a bass and flipping it over and playing.✌
