Now You know why Jimi Hendrix is rated #1 in rolling stone magazine list of100 best guitarists For many years. At Woodstock he was at the apex of his career. He was the headliner, but due to many scheduling issues, he finally was on Monday morning, hence the light crowd (by Woodstock standards). I was fortunate enough to see him perform twice (I am 75 y.o.)

My son is a self taught guitarist and he explained to me that the playing guitar up on the neck, no touch the strings at the pickups, the GAIN is absolutely maxed out, completely freakin off the charts maxed. Not only that, several times Jimi was tuning the guitar in the middle of a complex run. Not only that, singing while playing those complex runs. The most goddamdest guitarist this tired young flat earth has ever seen...

Jimis dad said, when jimi was 5, they were pretty poor, but at christmas time 1947 ,his dad took him to see fantasia, the disney movie. At the end of the movie,as they were walking back home, jimi asked his dad how they made the sounds in the movie, specially the thunder sounds. His dad explained how it was done...a few minutes later, passing by a music shop, jimi asked his dad,if it was possible to do those thunder sounds with a music instrument. On that night, aged 5,in cold new York night, jimi hendrix created rock and heavy metal in his brain.

When Jimi plays with one hand here and there he is utilizing the high gain of the amplifiers for this. Given the fact there were no noise gates or stuff like that in 1969 the fact it just doesn't all fall apart in a huge mess is amazing. The crowd by the way was only a fraction of the size of what it was at its height. Jimi was the last act on the bill and the crowd was down to about 40,000 by then.

You need to get the DVD “Jimi Hendrix Live At Woodstock”, it has his full show. The clip you showed was from the movie “Woodstock” and because there were so many other performers that they had to fit into a 3 hour movie, they could only include a few of Jimi’s songs. This version of “Voodoo Child” was heavily edited for time, it really went on for nearly 13 minutes. Jimi was born on November 27, 1942 in Seattle. Hard to imagine him as an 80 year old.

The part where you were talking about him playing with one hand it’s called “ hammer ons” it’s basically when either you have high gain or some gain type pedal you get more sustain on your notes then by tapping not picking you can play with one hand .

"That was almost like ~ Godlike, man!" LOL ~ yes, exactly. You just nailed what it meant to be Jimmi Hendrix. Other people have learned to do the stuff Jimmi did, some actually do it slightly better than Jimmi did it himself. See Stevie Ray Vaughn. The difference is Stevie was covering Hendrix. Hendrix was communing with the Gods, man. He was the conduit, the lightning-rod. It came into this world through Jimmi Hendrix. Jimmi could walk on stage in the middle of an acid trip, and the wild screwy shit going on in his head, that's exactly what came out of the guitar. The man told him to go on and play, and he walked on to a group who he'd never played with, no sound check, stoned as high as a kite, and played the national anthem. His version of it. Look up Star Spangled Banner by Hendrix. What you're hearing there is genius and strong drugs.

Magic Man…. He had more physical attributes than anyone else and was a “ Genius Savant” but more importantly his friends said He worked harder than anyone they ever saw….. focus of a god, his guitar never left his side, even in the 101st Airborne plus he listened to music 24/7. Really listened to all genres …. He wasn’t staggering around drunk, on any drug he could get his hands on muttering phrases like “you know what I’m sayin’ and shit’. “ “Hey mutha fuka , ummm, shit, where’s the Auto Tuner and the mic and shit…. I’m glad I was really able to dive deep into a magical stunning Jimi Hendrix music. The other day I saw to dumb 23 year old miscreants on TV that could not tell what time it was on a standard Clock!! Only on a digital clock….. 23 years old with no vocabulary and heads filled with thoughts of Gender crap…. I think the nose-rings that they wear so proudly are there to lead them to slaughter….. and shit ," know what I’m sayin’ and shit. Hell yeah MF I got Satanic tattoos allover my MF body n shit…. I’m gonna go steal me some shit to eat and shit” I see 38 year old mouth breathers on tiny bicycles headin to the MF store and shit to get some beers n shit. Anyway it’s beyond repair n shit… have fun young dude Monies and shit. You did it to yourselves . Not a white man, or (fill in the blank) or some other thing. Have a great life on your dirt bike. Oh hell yeah, just remembered Cardi B and Drake n shit got a new “song” and shit that’s droppin aand shit… Sad

Love Jimi but careful there as Jimi never was or will be The Almighty Jesus God. Eric Clapton never should of let them put that trash graffiti on an album where an artist went overboard putting incorrectly Clapton as god. I hope that is not what cost him his son? John Lennon saying the Beatles bigger than Jesus did not go over well either in the end.

Young Man, Jimi Hendrix is one of the 3 masters (Jimi, Bruce Lee, Ali). Jimi will blow you away, but you have to listen, the more you listen the more you will hear. If you haven't check out: Jimi Hendrix "Johnny B. Goode" Live from Hendrix in the West, Jimi Hendrix "Hey Joe" Monterey Pop Live, Jimi Hendrix "Like a rolling stone" Monterey Pop live, "Star Spangled Banner" from Woodstock and his Masterpiece "Machine Gun". After that any studio versions of, "Red House", "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and many others. Then pass it on to other young people, the man was truly a Legend!!! If heard, people will be more impressed these days then some of us were when he first came out. There will never be another like him. Sadly, his family seems to want to regulate him into obscurity by blocking a lot of content. Help keep his memory alive; he loved music too much not to heard... Peace!!!

Hey there, great reaction to one of my all-time favourite artists, and the one Beyonce called the sexiest man who ever lived lol. This performance was on the morning after, literally, of the Woodstock, when many attendees were already leaving. The reason he appeared in such an odd time was because he figured that, because he was the headliner, he naturally would go on last, but of course the previous acts were not exactly sticking to a strict schedule and so he got pushed to that very morning haha. It did produce some great music of course, but they released the full set a few years ago, and we should be thankful they did edit it down to the few pieces we know so well today. It weren't pretty lol.

Hi, Reali! Yes, Jimi's performance at the '69 Woodstock Music Festival has been released in different variations. If I recall correctly, the visuals and audio at Woodstock were shot by the same multi-camera team that a couple years earlier shot the '67 Monterey Pop Music Festival, the first commercial Rock music festival (with Jimi Hendrix's American debut, that you've got to see). Since shooting live Rock concerts then in '69 was still relatively new, and since I believe it was all shot with two 16mm movie cameras, the images & sound aren't as pristine as the digital audio & digital movie camera work taken of Rock concerts today. Hendrix's Woodstock performance first came out in the theatrically-released feature movie about the '69 Woodstock festival (now available on disc). The movie's performances also were released on a vinyl double album (& now I believe on CD). Because the above material on Jimi Hendrix only presented Jimi's few performance numbers shown in the Woodstock movie, Jimi's full complete '69 Woodstock performance set was later released. This Voodoo Child performance by Jimi at Woodstock I believe was from those later releases.

Another great LIVE act from the original Woodstock '69 is - "Joe Cocker "singing - With a Little Help from My Friends his cover that topped the charts of a Beatles song. His voice live here and his whole body into it.... his girl back-up never made it for the concert in traffic and others filled in. Another one of the best live recorded acts. The WOODSTOCK MOVIE was recorded on film so it is more like HD. Many old uploads on early KZfaq as low hd.

His mind is blown and we are not even into the 1970s yet. Couple of months back I was in contact with sunburn girl! The blonde in yellow on someone's shoulders.
