Yeah, like you said, this is a big theme in country music, to make simple sounding lyrics, that are really about something else. The Gambler isn't telling him how to play poker; he is telling him how to live his life.

Ray Charles got into country music in the later part of his singing career. He said he loved the stories. He also did a duet with Willie Nelson that is fantastic when you are in the mood for country again. "Seven Spanish Angels." Willie seems almost nervous to be on stage with such a legend.

just so you know...Kenny Rogers was a country star...but...a lot of his music was played on rock and roll stations..plus his music hit the billboard chart countdowns for rock....he was one of the only stars who crossed over the lines a number of times..and a ton of awards
