I'm Generation-X. I was born in the late 70s, and I grew up with my parents' music (classic rock). By the time I was in high school, I noticed EVERYONE my age listened to 70s rock. That's all we listened to besides the rock at the time, like Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, etc. In the parking lot at lunch time, kids were in their cars blasting stuff like Rick Derringer "Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo" and Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc. We also brought back the 70s clothing at the time. I look back at my generation being a fusion of 70s and early 90s. We were and probably still are the ONLY generation who loves their parents' music.

Very well put, Led Zeppelin as far beyond just the rock, genre or rock ‘n’ roll, with the origins in blues, adding such power through this impressive Hall of Fame lineup. It’s mesmerising, please continue your journey start with Led Zeppelin one and work your way through the albums. Led Zeppelin three is a bit of a disappointment, but there are some good tunes in it, especially the immigrant Song, a song about Vikings, that’s right it’s about Vikings

Zeppelin did hard rock, blues, folk, prog rock, and even grunge before it was a thing. Almost every song is a change from the previous. In the song you just did was a mix of styles, even a little tip of the hat to old African drumming while Robert Plant actually does an African dance. They really helped pave the way for a lot of the next generation of music.

Great reaction. Just to let you know, Jimmy Page the guitarist in led Zeppelin is considered one of the all time greatest rock guitarists in every poll. He created some of the most iconic guitar riffs in rock history. He also has some great riffs on the acoustic guitar which you can hear on some of their softer songs. Led Zeppelin not only have a lot great songs, they are fantastic live performers. They have amazing stage presence. Therefore it would be great if you reacted to their live performances too. Jimmy Page (guitar, producer) assembled this group to cover his "Yardbirds" show contracts. He scoured England and found Robert Plant (after many other singers were approached...Steve Marriot, Steve Winwood, others). Robert agreed only if Jimmy would hear the drummer of his "Band of Joy" who happened to be John Bonham. He called his studio musician colleague John Paul Jones and within weeks of starting the tour in Scandinavia, their legend started growing. From 1968-1980 this group dominated the airwaves.

The "freak out" part of song was played in part with a Theramin. It is an instrument that you never actually place your hands on to make a sound. It is the instrument that makes the weird, eerie sounds in old horror movies. It's not hard to figure out what the song is about. It must have blown the minds of people hearing it in the late 60s, especially parents.

I've been a Zeppelin fan since I heard their fantastic first album in the summer of '69, when I was 14 years old. The Beatles will always hold the most special place in my heart, but Zep was a perfect backdrop to my teen years. Whole Lotta Love was their first hit from their 2nd LP, & they've been at the top of the heap ever since. One of my favorite song of theirs is quite different than most, but oh, so much fun, & it's called Hot Dog. Zep's song, Stairway To Heaven, is a rock anthem, one of the greatest songs from the era. I'd advise listening to the studio version for a first time listen, & you should definitely make that happen. In 2012, Led Zeppelin was given tribute at the Kennedy Center Honors on December 2. To help celebrate that honor, the group Heart did an incredible, show-stopping performance of Stairway To Heaven that's another MUST SEE, but know the original first!! The 3 surviving members of Zep were there, & were brought to tears by the remarkable rendition we were all treated to.

One thing to keep in mind as you take this journey of reacting to music is that you are doing this out of chronological order - like most other music reactors - you listen to an artist from one decade... then another...then another...and so on. So in your mind - you have a mishmash of music / artists. But in reality, the music evolved over time. In a progression. One of the challenges of music reactions is to re-order the music in your own mind. If you listen to Eminem from the early 2000s and then some pop singer from the 80's and then Zeppelin from the early '70s - you might fall into the trap of comparing the artists to each other. You have all of these pieces of music floating around in your mind. You have to create your own mental structure, so that you are seeing the art as it actually evolved. So for instance, if you have already listened to Metallica, then Zeppelin might feel more "timid" by comparison - but in the late '60s and early '70s - when Metallica were still infants - we were just coming through the folksy music of the hippie generation and into the "let's come together" vibe of the early 70's. So when Zeppelin hit - it was like thunder. Almost nobody was making music like this. The guitar riffs and hard drums ushered in a new era of hard rock - all the while pop and disco was fermenting in the dance clubs of the masses. That's why Zeppelin is more loved today than ever - because we all have the benefit of hindsight - and we can see where seismic changes first began. Anyway - just my 2 cents - and i'm enjoying your platform and thanks for posting this one.

Ok guys. You gotta check out their song In My Time Of Dying when you get a chance. This song is great and popular and all but listen to that one and you'll see why they're one of the greatest rock bands in history.

I was 12 years old when my older brother brought home Led Zeppelin album. I fell in love with it, him not so much but six years later, I would end up seeing Led Zeppelin live in 1975 and again in 1977 at the fabulous forum in Los Angeles couple of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll nights of my life. Watch “Stairway to Heaven” live at Madison Square Garden in 1975. That’s the same show I saw in Los Angeles. I really enjoy you guys work. Keep up the great work.

Yah, 11 years old in '69, lying in bed on a school night in southeastern North Dakota, with my clock radio tuned to WLS am radio out of Chicago, and this comes screaming out of the tinny little clock radio speaker. It was simply captivating. Then, I had the good fortune of hearing it again for the "first time," when my buddy played his brother's Led Zep album with this song for me on a real stereo system, and I could hear all the depth of sound that had been lost inside my clock radio when I'd heard it in my bedroom.

WLS was where I first heard it too. I had already bought their first album the first time I saw it in a store. I did some top tier begging for Mom to give me the money. I love her. But I made sure I had money when I went to the store from then on.

@ Bars & Barbells… Great Reaction, LZ was a very versatile band, masterfully playing Progressive/Experimental Rock, Hard Rock, Blues, and even Folk ( sometimes many genres within the same song)….I saw you crack a bit of a grin, when RP sang the lyrics, “I wanna be your back door man”… The phrase had a much different meaning back in the 70’s. His girlfriend’s husband leaves the house out the front door, and when the coast is clear, he’ll come in through the back door to “meet up”… If you really want to hear a Great LZ hard Blues driven Rock song, IMHO, you should definitely check out a little known LZ gem, entitled, “Nobody’s Fault But Mine”, off their 1976 studio album, “Presence” …The song includes an outstanding Robert Plant Harmonica solo….Good Luck Jjh

Great reaction Sam and Phil! Zep has so many great songs! Gallows Pole, Kashmir, Stairway to Heaven are some that come to mind. The lead singer, Robert Plant, went on as a solo artist and explored many different music genres. In fact he has two collaboratve albums with a fantastic bluegrass singer, Alison Krauss. Their first won several grammies.

While the musicianship and singing ability are unmatched, what really makes this entire album stand apart from all others is the production quality. You need to remember this was basically recorded in 1969 in the back of a truck. No computers. Just a tape machine and some amps and microphone. I've been listening to this song for 40 years and the clarity and sound effects still amaze me. Jimmy page is an incredible guitarist but his true genius shows as a producer

I rocked to Led Zeppelin as a teenager. One of very best, all so very talented. No autotune, just raw, amazing sound. I'm 67, never forget their impact. Thanks for the look back!! Note: try Deep Purple, Smoke on the Water, based on a true story about a fire that happened in Montreux Switzerland. One of the catchiest riffs you will ever hear!! Love your show❤

We have to give thanks to Keith Moon of the band, The Who for saying, "this band will sink like a Lead Balloon". He said this when Jimmy Page, guitarist is creating new band with Plant, Jones, and Bonham. Page like Lead Balloon comment. He used Led without e, and use Zeppelin (type of Balloon) as band name.

Since I've Been loving you live at MSG has the greatest guitar work, I have ever seen captures true nature of the band If you are going react to Led Zeppelin this song is a must. The greatest band since Elvis he Was their Idol They were sitting in the front row his daughter recognized them his concert. He knew his daughter was a big fan of them, and also told they were big fans of his. He invited. them Back to his motel Thay talked for hours the blues. All rock was born from the blues. by the end of the night Robert and Elvis were singing together. They both said he was the most humble, man ever. Guess that is why they called him the King

To appreciate this music you had to grow up with it as I did. But I'm glad you had the opportunity to listen to it because it will be around a lot longer that either me or you. I KNOW you wish you were either in the crowd listening or on stage making this music. This Music is LEGEND...

Enjoyed your Led Zep reaction as a long time fan. They were the first band I ever saw live when I was 15 back in 1971 -everything they do is worth listening to. Can I make a suggestion that you listen to a band called Lovebites? I would recommend trying :Holy war;:live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo. I think you'll find them interesting.
