It doesn't matter what genre of music you like, or grew up with, or was subjected to constantly, or forced to play. What DOES matter is that you do listen to music outside that influence now. Like it or hate it, you're expanding your horizons, and that's just great.

@@lolabroadhead3972 I have records of the the Red Army Ensemble, they give me the same emotional experience, the same as Pavarotti's singing. I wish I could describe it. In a different way a Welsh male voice choir does the same. ( Perhaps being 87% Welsh accounts for that.one)

@@iriscollins7583 I think with the Red Army it is so many voices that can do the same thing is overwhelming emotionally. It is the same with a Drum line I find. It is a shame that it is considered something niche or snooty. But that is why I love watching reaction videos to all sorts of music, especially inow I live in the UK, where the radio stations do offer a range of music. Nessun Dorma means No One Sleeps. The story is about a prince who will be competing in a contest in the morning to win the hand of a beautiful but cold princess. If he fails to answer her three questions correctly he will lose his head. He is not worried, he is sure he will win (Vincera, Vencera=I will win! I will Win!). He has kept his name secret, the princess has sent her servants all over town to find out who he is. No gets any sleep tonight. Check out Vesti La Giubba (Put your costume on). And keep a box of tissue handy. Opera is a play with music. The actors sing rather than speak their parts. About the orchestra: This is the largest orchestra I have ever seen. And they are the best of the best. The conductor is Zubin Meta, the most prestigious conductor in the world. Did you notice the overhead screens showing him conducting? This orchestra is so large, not all of the musicians can see the conductor, so they are watching his directions on the screens. The conductor watches Pavarotti, takes his cues from him, and conveys them to the orchestra through the movements of the baton, his hands, and his arms.

I think you'd enjoy attending an opera. Good operas to start would be La Boheme, La Traviata, Il Barbiere do Siviglia (The Barber of Seville), Carmen, Die Zauberflote (The Magic Flute). Most operas have screens with the translation from the language the performers use to English. However, it's not needed if the opera is well performed. You'll quickly understand what's happening.

The story with this piece is interesting. Basically, he loves the Princess, and answered her three riddles correctly, so she has to marry him, but she finds him repulsive. He offers her a deal - if she can guess his name by dawn then she can have him executed. She then orders her people to stay up all night and find his name by dawn, or else she will have all of them killed. He then sings this song in triumph, because none of them know his name.

I hated it at the time but I am so glad he did. Without classical music we wouldn't have the music we have today. Pavarotti was one of the greatest operatic tenors in history. Nessun Dorma is an Aria (solo) in an Opera named “Turandot” composed by Puccini in the late1890’s. Sadly, he died before he completed it and another composer finished it. If you enjoy operatic singing, search KZfaq for “The Three Tenors”. They are Pavarotti, Carreras & Domingo. They performed outdoor concerts after the World Cup Games in the 1990’s. They were close friends and their interactions with each other are funny. Specifically, search for “O Solo Mia” by the Three Tenors and enjoy.

I hope by now you have attended a live opera performance. Luciano Pavarotti is the reason I became hooked on opera 40 years ago and have been to many live shows in Seattle. Some I didn't like at all, others I slept through. Start with the more lighthearted, comical operas like The Barber of Seville, The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, then go on to Carmen, LaTraviata, Madame Butterfly, Aida, etc. Fortunately, the theaters provide the lyrics in English on a screen above the stage. You will LOVE it.

Awhile ago you reacted to my favorit rock band Led Zeppelin and as a musician i was very moved to hear how you perceived the individual instruments and honestly pointed out that we learn , we hear how much the different instruments add to the whole. Not least Led Zeppelin where all four are extremely skilled. Rock's equivalent of The Beatles. Not at all like Zeppelin's way of writing classical rock is Deep Purple , one of the most skilled musicians in rock history , Smoke on the water , Highway Star , Burn , Picture of home ,Lacy and many many more i can warmly recommend. Thank you for the humble honesty of my generation of music . Bless...

He was known as the King of the high C’s and yes he hit higher notes than that regularly in opera. In the aria “ah mes amis” he hit 9 high c’s in quick succession which cemented him as one of the great tenors - for me he is the g.o.a.t. when it comes to male singers.

Awesome performance. I have had the CD of the full concert since about the time it came out, and still love it. Another fire performance from this concert is by Placido Domingo, singing No Puede Ser. Search for 'Placido Domingo-No puede ser-7/7/1990 Rome'. Domingo was often disregarded when compared to Pavarotti, but in this song he showed that he could bring the fire as well. No Puede Ser is a song about a man that was told that the love of his life was just using him. In this song he expresses his doubt, because he knows her, and his heart tells him she is a good woman. It is a song full of passion, heartbreak and redemption, and Domingo does it full justice.

Opera singers have to do lessons and exercises, for years before they start performing. Learn 3 languages just to understand the most common operas. He learned to hold his breath for a very long time, to sing without taking extra breaths. Over years of effort they can expand their vocal range by one or two notes at the top, high notes, and bottom, low notes of where their voice naturally sits. They also learn to read music well enough to sing the written notes without music, on pitch. Then learn the usual major operatic roles note for note, so they can sing them correctly, without the sheet music..

This a aria of victory, he is wishing the night away because in the morning he will win a challenge with the princess and she will be his. He says “in the light my kiss will melt the silence from your lips, victory!”

The most remarkable thing about opera is that they don't have microphones. They fill the entire room with just their voices.

I was so happy you liked this!! It’s so beautiful, it gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes. I remember saying I feel like he’s talking to God and he took me with him. And then you made a comment about God too and my jaw dropped! Plus, he was up in age for this recording. He’s even more brilliant in his prime.

Amazing tenor. When Frank Rich of the NYT reviewed someone's performance, he said it was "as sturdy as Pavororotti's dressing room stool, missing one leg". That's a reference to greatness.
