That is just some of Marvin's BS. The song was written by Jim Steinman and he said the inspiration came from hearing an Elvis Presley song. So, nothing to do with Meat Loaf's past affairs. PS Why do so many people continue to ignorantly refer to him as being the same as the food? His nick name and stage name is "Meat Loaf" not "Meatloaf".

Jim Steinman, the songwright who wrote the song and, unless I'm mistaken, the pianist on the song as well, had a gift for crafting musical stories of really kind of dysfunctional love. Meatloaf had a gift for giving those songs *life* in a way other artists rarely managed, though a handful of his song became famous from other artists - "Holding Out for a Hero" and "Total Eclipse of the Heartt" by Bonnie Tyler, "Making Love (Out of Nothing At All)" by Air Supply and even "It's All Coming Back" by Celine Dion. But Jimmy and Meatloaf were a thunderously strong duo and their unique energy in the music industry is very much missed. Hail the Travelers. Hail the Tale Spinner, Hail the Story Teller. Good Journey, gentlemen.

Steinman is incredibly underrated! The piano player is supposed to be Roy Bittan, Springsteen’s pianist. He is also amazing, having played in most of steinman’s songs and with dire straits’ third album, Bella Donna by Stevie nicks and a lot more while being in the E street band since Born to Run. I personally like to believe that in terms of integrating technique and style into rock piano, he made as much of an impact to rock music as Billy Joel or Elton John!

Such a unique and talented artist. He seemed to come out of nowhere exploded then would disappear and return years later and repeat. Imo one of the most talented performers ever both as a singer and actor. I'm surprised "You Took The Words Right Of My Mouth" or "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" didn't come in 2nd? Diane would definitely like both songs being what I refer to as theatrical songs. His acting popped up in little parts "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" "Scavenger Hunt" "Wayne's World" " Keeping the Faith" "Formula 51" and of course "Fight Club."

@@DianeJennings Jim Steinman who wrote all of Meatloaf's hits was a theater geek. He wrote the songs that became Meatloaf's first album "Bat Out of hell" to be a Broadway Musical. Meatloaf was an actor before he was a rock star. He was in the Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) two years before his first album (1977) and was an extra in the movie State Fair (1962). He even stated before he died during an interview in the Irish Examiner "I’ve never thought of myself as a singer. For my European friends: the "Coupe Deville" in this lyric refers to what was Cadillac's most popular model when this song came out. Sure, The Cadillac El Dorado was "nicer" (and more expensive) as were the Fleetwood sedans, But the Coupe Deville was THE car people thought of when they thought of Cadillacs in 1977 (I only bring this up as ""coupé de ville" can be inferred as a specific car body style from ANY make.)

Meatloaf's was sort of my jam since I first heard him do Bat Out Of Hell. His music always told some sort of story in a very theatrical way. I saw him live three times with gaps of ten or more years between shows He didn't tour the Canadian Prairies that often. He was also a pretty good actor in more than one film and TV roles. The last time I saw him live was June 17th 2016 in Edmonton, Alberta he was doing his show which was always pretty theatrical. He had cancelled a couple of shows just before this due to health concerns, and there were questions about whether this show would happen. It did, but he didn't look in the best of shape. He was singing "I'd do anything for love" in his usual dramatic manner when he slowly collapsed on stage while singing. At first it was hard to tell if it was part of the performance or if something had happened, as the band kept playing for a bit before band members and crew rushed to his aid. The show immediately ended, and he was taken to hospital overnight. Suffering from a severe case of dehydration. Made the show even more memorable. So, I enjoyed you reaction to this tune.

As a person with a hearing impairment I can't stress enough how much I appreciate Meat Loaf. Not only does he have a beautiful singing voice but the way he is able to enunciate every word, even when singing fast, makes it so easy to pick up the lyrics on first listening. It usually takes me a few runs through the song and sometimes I need to read the lyrics. That could be why I appreciate songs as a whole before I ever get into what they are trying to say.

I got the nick name little Rick as a kid since my dads named Rickey also. Everyone always wonders why I am called little Rick since I am 5'10" and not little. I would of never thought that would be your nick name. Being organized and clean is a good thing. It's hard to keep a house organized and clean so that's a good trait to have. At work, I keep hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes to wipe the area clean after others have worked at the computer desk. Wipe the desk, switcher source panels, headset/microphone, phone, keyboard and mouse.

If you like Meat Loaf, you should check out Bonnie Tyler, a Welsh singer who stylistically is basically Meat Loaf's female counterpart. This is mostly due to the fact that Meat Loaf's songwriter, Jim Steinman had a falling out with him and started writing songs for her, most notably "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "I Need a Hero".

I had lived very close to Mr Aday in CT for many years. He had a fabulous family. He really was a good soul. But his anger got the best of him sometimes. But also as a nurse I tried to encourage him to live a more healthy lifestyle. You can lead a horse to water but it’s up to them to drink from the well. I still miss him!

Loved your reaction. 'Bat out of Hell' is really an outstanding record on its own merit. I do wonder if you may have missed the juxtaposition of the song. He is in a relationship he will never fulfill to his lovers satisfaction -"but I will never love you" - because he loved a woman long ago who also said she would never love him. Its almost sad the way the tale plays out. He needs and wants his current flame but being burned in the past, he can never love her. Some great Juke Box Poetry. As others have mentioned, there are other tunes worthy of your time. My favorite for an absolute gut wrenching emotional piece is "For Cryin' Out Loud (Dont You Know I Love You)" It is the second longest song on the album, but if you really listen to the lyrics...well. it tears me up every time. 😢 Bat Out Of Hell: Back Into Hell is a sequel to the album that gave us "Two Out Of Three Aint Bad" and yeah....a decade and a half apart. But listened to back to back, they "could" play as a double album. Some cite his maturity on the second album. Its actually the nature of Jim Steinman that matured to a degree. Meat Loaf was always at his peak as a performer.... Listen to 'For Cryin Out Loud ...." and you may see what I mean. Peace.

With his father being so abuse his escape was high school football and later the theatre doing shows like Hair and Rocky Horror Show which he was also in the movie "Rocky Horror Picture Show". This is from the album Bat Out of Hell, with music written by the legendary Jim Steinman (RIP). Wish there was a way to take you by the hand and guide you through the entire album song by song.

The first verse is him telling a girl he will never love her. But he wants her and needs her and he has found out that those too aren’t bad by them selves and she will learn it too. The second verse is explaining that he gave away his heart to someone years before that told him that she would never love him and that’s how she learned 2 outta 3 ain’t bad. So now it’s just a vicious cycle that keeps playing on into the future.

I could be wrong, but my perception is that musicians up through the 1980's succeeded because they had tremendous talent. Sometime in the eighties or nineties, marketing and technological help in the studio made more musicians famous because of their looks or celebrity rather than their singing talent. Although of course there continues to be talented singers coming along.

I believe the woman he's singing to at the beginning IS the woman that left him yrs ago and came back trying to regain what she walked away from ... He says "you've been cold to me so long I'm crying icicles instead of tears" This is his way I won't be hurt again. like at the beginning it is almost like payback or What she did coming back to haunt her. He's repeating her words from yrs ago to her now.

Meat Loaf always had some really fun songs. Loved him in "Roady". He was born in Dallas, TX in '47, so he would have been 16 when Kennedy was assassinated, so it's very possible he was somewhere near Dealey Plaza when it happened. His death being attributed to Covid though might be a bit of a stretch since he died in late January before Covid became a real issue here in the States. Fun fact: He was in Rocky Horror Picture Show.

his birth name is Michael Lee Aday. but from a very young age, he was a big boy, and his family started calling him Meatloaf. it just stuck. He was a poet, and story teller, and his music encompasses both of those aspects. you should also listen to "Bat out of hell" and really listen to the lyrics.. it is a whole story, from end to end.
