My personal interpretation of it is the struggle within. That voice in the back of your mind saying, "youre not good enough, youre gonna fail" and towards the end its the same voice saying "told ya so, but this voice will always be there no matter what" I struggle with confidence issues, i have that voice in my head all day, everyday. The rage of the song conveys the frustration

Listening to and watching your reactions to music I've heard for decades helps me hear it again as if it were the first time and to love it all over again. I want to be sitting there right next to you explaining stuff you should know about each band, the members' histories, stuff they've all been through. I am LOVING that you are loving the metal tracks!!! Your intelligence comes right through, your insights are original and honest, I like everything I'm seeing in you. Very engaging. I like listening to you as much as I like hearing the music again. Thank you for being brave enough to start this show when it didn't come naturally (you'd never know that, though) - I'm glad I discovered your channel! Please stick around!!!

All-time great album. This riff is hard af and they put special attention to the tempo making it slightly slower than they naturally wanted to go at first. Love your reactions, man. Leper Messiah is a great Metallica song that deserves some love, especially given your introduction to this video.

'Sad but true' was written in 1991 about addiction... James Hetfield saw addicts behave in a way that they wouldn't when they were sober... They were the same person, but acting like someone else when intoxicated... He also struggled w/ alcohol abuse his entire life... he would drink to excess and often get violent and destroy dressing rooms, go after women, etc... Metallica got the nickname 'Alcoholica' because they were reputed heavy drinkers in the 80's and 90's. Lars Ulrich (drums) recalled that drinking helped them cope w/ emotions that they couldn't handle sober... it got worse after their bassist Cliff Burton died in 1986... Their struggles would not come out in public for years. The other members of Metallica were no angels either... Jason Newsted (bass) was heavily into psychedelic drugs... lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and Lars Ulrich both used cocaine... Hammett was the first to end up in rehab. James would end up in rehab in 2001 when his drinking was destroying his family and relationships within Metallica. James did write lyrics about religious zealots... the beliefs that ended up costing his mother her life (James' mother refused cancer treatments because she was a Christian scientist who believed that 'prayers and God' would heal her... She died when he was a teen...) in songs like - 'The God that failed'... 'Holier than thou' ... James wrote about his mother's struggle w/ cancer in the song - 'Until it sleeps'... he wrote the song 'My friend of misery' about people's self-pity, pessimism and backwards belief... Other songs about addiction were - 'Master of puppets' ... 'The house Jack built' ... 'Moth into flame' (which was about singer Amy Winehouse and her downfall w/ addiction that led to her death)

Spot on. God is a coping mechanism for people that have trouble coming to terms with the reality of life and death. But you don't need god to teach you right from wrong. You need a secure upbringing. Sometimes this happens to come along with something religious but it's definitely not necessary. Also, I love this Metalica track !

As an atheist who has been on death's door both back when I was a christian, and later after I walked away from religion, I've found it's the opposite. Religious people who are dying are not at peace. They're worried about whether or not they did enough to please their god and what their afterlife is going to be. After de-converting, my near death experiences where much less stressful. It is what it is.
@curtisbailey78

I agree 100%. No one seems to be more terrified of death than Christians. AS an atheist, I don't worry about any afterlife because I don't seen any good reason to believe it exists. Nothing is more calming and reassuring than the notion that when I die, I'm done.

I was there when they filmed this video ~ that whole concert video ~ both nights in San Diego. It was a wild time! Polo, I don't imagine that most of your viewers don't want to hear what you have to say about whatever topics come up in the songs you're listening to. I feel like your crowd tends to be more cerebral, and obviously in the times we're living in, conversations need to be had. We have a gathering here of humanity that spans many ages, races, and religions. Provided everybody can act grown during such a discussion, at your discretion, I don't see why they shouldn't happen.

In the preamble discussion about God, it reminded me of a song that you should hear. "Quicksand Jesus" by Skid Row. The title refers to a belief in God that arises naturally in times of strife, like sinking in quicksand, when the concept of Him offers comfort. When you have to face that moment faith or non belief.

I've crossed many paths, religion being one of them. God being another, both are different, but mainstream society dictates that they're one in the same. I disagree, religion is what one hides behind when faced with the fear and wrath of GOD because of the wrongs a person does... God is the one accepting what one has done, that one being thyself,. When a person can't accept the things one has done, and begins to fear the Gods wrath and judgement, then one turns to religion to find someone or something where they feel accepted and forgiven. Every religious person believes God made us in his image, and we are not to harm or judge others, you know, the ten commandments and all that, but it's what we do everyday to each other, I'm not saying everyone, but the minority in this instance are the ones who are true to themselves and the ones they love, use God if you want, heck, go ahead and use religion if you must,....I'm not following anyone, and I'm not asking you to follow any mantra, nor am I trying to lead, I'm no Noah. I'm just being me.

Absolutely love your channel Polo. My comment was an answer to the question you asked your pastor. The Bible actually tells the church to go out and make disciples (Matthew 28) so the churches that you had experience with definitely should have been sharing the gospel or supporting missionaries. Personally, I think the reason why more Christians don't share their faith is fear of rejection or being ridiculed by people. Also there is so much evidence for God and Jesus. But aside from the evidence, if you sincerely want to know Jesus he will not play hide and seek with you. The Bible says, Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7 'll be praying for you!

Woah... You can absolutely teach morality without the concept of gods or threatening eternal hellfire. In fact it might be counterproductive in this day and age because it's obviously BS. I don't think using a lie to teach morality is, well.. moral.

Exactly we are spiritual beings - and all humans can connect to the spirit that runs the world. Each one looks to the sky and we do not need a priest to tell us how to see the spirit's presence is all things. Churches have been corrupted and have little to offer. We enjoy you talking about the matters of the spirit - we all think about it. got to be free to speak!!
