I noticed that you had an attempt to react to this band 3 years ago, but since it is no longer available, I will give you the message with the history of the band below. Welcome [BACK] to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Hi there, as a fellow Dutch guy ( this one 68 years young) I want to ask you a question. Why in the hell, when I am at a party in the Netherlands, and I tell people about Floor Jansen, I am met with not understanding eyes... A glaze empty stare.... Only the people who saw her at "Beste Zangers" know her. It is an absolute shame!!! We should all be extremely proud of her and rise a huge statue in honour of Floor. Because She is the very best singer in this part of the universe.... By the way: the same with Arjen Lucassen from Ayreon. That God is also only known by the happy few in the Netherlands. He has earned His statue too after composing and performing Epic music for 30 years now . It is a bloody shame that people only follow mainstream music what the radio stations tell them to listen to . Amen.

Lovely reaction. Dutch Nightwishfan here, so I'll continue in Dutch. Ik ben een man van 59 en ik heb Floor en Nightwish leren kennen, toen Floor nog niet bij Nightwish zong. Het zal rond 2006-2007 geweest zijn, toen ik eerst eerst via een YT-link op het spoor van Nightwish gezet werd en later door een jonge dorpsgenote gewezen werd op After Forever, de eerste band waarin Floor zong. Ik had nog geen tijd gehad om AF te ontdekken, maar in de krant zag ik dat ze die avond in Groningen zouden spelen en ik ben daar onvoorbereid naartoe gegaan en met het eerste nummer had Floor mij ingepakt. De coupletten in een rockstem en het refrein vol klassiek, had ik nog nooit gehoord..... Haar veelzijdigheid is ongeëvenaard. Ik was meteen fan. Nadat AF uit elkaar ging, ben ik Floor wat uit het oog verloren, maar in 2012 had ik de gelegenheid om Nightwish live te zien, toen nog met Anette, wat best een tegenvaller was, omdat ik de meeste NW optredens online met Tarja gezien had. Dit was een half jaar voordat Floor bij NW werd ingevlogen. Een paar jaar later, bedacht ik me hoe gaaf het zou zijn, als Floor een gastoptreden bij Nightwish zou doen en ik ben daarop gaan googelen. De rest is geschiedenis. Dit nummer en dit optreden popte op en ik ben fan forever. Groeten uit het mooie Groningen.

There is definitely a progressive element to Nightwish compositions. Your comment is so accurate. That is why we all refer to Floor as our Valkyrie queen of symphonic metal. She leads us into battle and chooses us all to follow her to Valhalla. A true angel with the power of a goddess. I saw it live in 2022. An out of body experience! I have heard and watched this 100's of times and it never gets old. One of the most epic compositions in the history of rock/metal. After I noticed how great this "song" is listening to it a couple times in the background, I couldn't stop. Probably for one or two week I listened to nothing but this. Maybe a couple 100 times, not getting tired of it. Still not. I even created my own blend of this one and Buenos Aires 2012.

SInce you know Floor and Henk with Phantom from Beste Zangers, you'll probably LOVE when they did it again with the whole Nightwish band, it was a promise she gave to him!!! Plus all the other songs of course :D

The band's primary category is symphonic metal but this particular piece, this is a mix of fantasy adventure, pirate ship, and folky renaissance fair-- but it's got such a compelling return, so satisfying to get that early part back but at an even higher energy level, oh and that Floor finale, damn that's a top 5 all time vocal moment right there. Go back and listen to it again. From her sustained note when the camera's on bass and guitar players in side by side power stances and just as the camera comes back to Floor, tune in and let her voice have full access to your brain. Glorious.

Floor is een muzikale nerd. Ze begon als 16-jarige bij After Forever en die ontdekte ik in 2004 op het bevrijdingsfestival in Almere. Ik werd meteen fan. Floor is muzikaal opgeleid in rock en klassiek maar is altijd bezig met haar zang verder ontwikkelen. Hoe zij een verhaal vertelt met gebruik van haar stem, gezicht en hele lijf, vind ik ongekend. Krijg je kippenvel vanuit je nek en ruggengraat, dat zo'n siddering door je heen gaat, dat noemen we een Floorgasm. Floor bracht me in 2013 op het pad van Nightwish. Zo leerde ik de genialiteit van de andere bandleden kennen, toetsenist en componist Tuomas voorop. Ze noemen hem de metal Mozart en dat is niet voor niets. All chances when Floor participate TV show Beste Zangers 2019. She and Nightwish came much mope popular in Netherland. In 2015 Nightwish played Amsderdam Afas live about 6000 people and 2018 in Ziggo Dome about 8000-10 000 people and 11/2022 they had two soldout show in Ziggo Dome:) Recommend Nightwish feat Henk Poort Phantom of the Opera 2022 in Ziggo Dome.

Yes - that is the gem you dutch have had for over two decades now and still many of you are completely oblivious of this. Luckily she found a good musical home from the halls of our finnish metal Mozart - a perfect match, and now after all these years Dutch people are slowly starting to understand the greatness of your very own Floor Jansen. I must say you dutch have also many other sublime musicians in metal music. But those are whole different rabbit holes of their own.

Gabriel's list pretty much covers the best of Nightwish with Floor as lead vocalist. Every song is different, and your favorite tends to be the last one you listened to. Ghost Love Score is a great showpiece for Floor, but you'll be amazed at the variety of music the group can produce. Don't miss "Dark Chest of Wonders", a real banger that they opened up this concert with - they got the crowd fired up in a matter of seconds.

Welcome to the Nightwish Army, my new friend! Most of us call this sub-genre "symphonic power metal," although it certainly does also contain prog-metal and/or prog-rock elements/influences. The band mastermind (keyboardist) does not classify it as any particular genre. So, in reality, some of us have started to class it as simply the Nightwish sub-genre! They are their own thing. Sure, invite your mother to join the reactions! We love watching Mom or Dad or husband or wife or son or daughter making guest appearances! It adds to the interest and helps keep things fresh. It's usually fun to watch the main reactor's expressions (after he or she has already heard the song) watching his other family member or friend hear it for the first time. Just started your reaction and I loved your switch to dutch there for a second cause I was trying to see how much I would be able to understand. Grew up in Nortehr Germany, so I'm familiar with Plattdeusch, which is somewhat related to Dutch. And even though I didn't catch all the words, I still got the meaning....languages are so cool xD

This official live version of Ghost Love Score at Wacken Open Air festival 2013 has now been viewed approximately 33 million times worldwide. Floor is in the NPO2 Top2000 beside “Phantom of the Opera” with Nightwish with 2 songs: the single 'Élan' came in at #312 (2019), #576 (2020) #491 (2021) and rose to #389 (2022). And the live version you just watched 'Ghost Love Score' at Wacken Open Air came in at place #1417 (2019), #365 (2020), 272 (2021) and rose to 197 (2022).
