About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. Nice reaction Wave. Floor Jansen is an amazing vocalist. You still need to embrace backing up a bit after you pause a bit more. Choppng Floor's big vocal finish in half towards the end and not backing it up a little was just painful. LOL

Thanks for this reaction Wave. Nightwish was my gateway band in my quest, at 74, to better understand music. The Nightwish Wacken 2013 was the first concert that literally overwhelmed my emotions and Floor singing Ghost Love Score can still bring on the tears. Listening to Nightwish is a journey; Floor is the third vocalist the band has had and it will be interesting if you go back and listen to Tarja (first vocalist) and Annette (second vocalist). Floor was the first I heard and, to me, is the greatest.They have many, many great songs worthy of a reaction which I will dribble into Patreon. I man, The Greatest Show on Earth covers the origin of life on earth and includes references to the 'Goldilocks Zone" and Devonian seas. You can't get more epic than that.

Troy Donockley is an English multi--instrumentalist, known for his playing of the Uilleann pipes (Irish bagpipes). He also provides whistles, guitar, bouzouki and vocals. He wasn't on stage for this performance, but when you listen to more Nightwish, you'll get to meet him.

That lady happens to be one of the greatest vocalist this era - Floor Jansen. No demonic voice from her as far as I remember (though she can growl too). Her voice is just pure angelic 😊 I'm not from the Nightwish camp, but I appreciate the fact that they're an epic band.

Nice to see a guitarist who appreciates and respects a solo which is not complex but very appropriate to the vibe of the song. Most would say "it's very simple and slow". Schredding doesn't mean you're great. The music here rules everything and there's no space for showing-off. Every member in this band is underling of the music not of the fame. Great reaction bro. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a soprano with a range of more than three octaves (D3 to F6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a vocal coach herself. It is incredible how she is able to take any song and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. Welcome into the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish. That burning bulls head is the official emblem of the Wacken Open Air festival. Although the band is Finnish their 3rd female vocalist Floor Jansen (pronounce Yahn-Sen) is not. She is Dutch. She’s a Light Lyric Soprano and her vocalrange runs from E3 to D6. At the moment of this concert she wasn’t even a year within the band. Also none of the songs were written for her so she had to learn all those songs by heart. 48hrs before her first performance at Seattle October, 1st 2012 she was asked to jump at a plane and come over to help the band out IOT replace their 2nd female vocalist halfway the Imaginaerum World Tour. Most of the symphonic music you hear (on almost every song of Nightwish is written by Tuomas (keyboards) but is performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Since there’s not enough space on stage for a full live orchestra (and also couldn’t go with them on world tour for more than a year) it’s a running soundtrack pre-recorded at Angel Studios, London. Welcome to the world of Nightwish.. And more importantly, FLOOR JANSEN, She is, IMHO, the best singer in rock music right now. Ya miiiight want to go for Seven days to the wolves from the same album... Or Love is an empty hope.

Couple of quick notes for you for further enjoyment. Floor Jansen (pronounced YAHN-sen) is the lead singer, the third since the band began and has been with them since 2012. She's a Nederlander (yes, the rest of the band IS Finnish except for Troy Donockley who's English and not in this clip.) Classically trained soprano who lives with her husband and four year old daughter Freja on a small farm in Sweden. She is also a vocal coach and horsewoman (dressage) and has an outstanding KZfaq page. On it she does Fan Friday interactions, interviews with other musicians, and some KILLER covers (see her version of Phantom of the Opera with musical theatre star Henk Poort.) Oh and btw since everyone asks, she's about 6'1, (6'4-6'5 in stage heels although she recently said she's giving up the heels now that she's hit age 40.)

Nightwish Army UK Division reporting, the pipes surrounding Tuomas' keyboards are purely cosmetic. Interesting that you mention Dream Theater, I think you might appreciate the work that this singer, Floor Jansen, does with mad genius Arjen Anthony Lucassen on his project Ayreon. One of the many god-tier collaborators on the song "The Day That The World Breaks Down" is James LaBrie of Dream Theatre. Oh, no! you said the "E" word and specifically compared Amy Lee to Floor. Just so you know, everyone in the world who is not American involuntarily clenches their buttocks when that comparison is made. Amy Lee is a very good composer, singer and songwriter but not in the same league as a singer with Floor (and would not claim to be.) Floor is literally a contender for the position of very best female singer in the world. This is a very deep rabbithole for anyone to go down, especially a knowledgeable musician such as yourself. Our General Gabriel will be along shortly, you could do much worse than follow his roadmap to introduce this incredible band. Enjoy!

Great reaction! But as you will probably learn comparing Amy Lee to Floor is sacrilege for Nightwish fans!! lol. Floor is so versatile and she has more textures to her voice than most! Nightwish has Troy Donockley, one of the best multi instrumentalists I've ever seen.their greatest show on earth live at Tampere would be a good showcase and an amazing song.

The flaming bull's head is the logo for the Wacken Open Air festival. Wacken Germany is a big cattle producing area of Northwestern Germany. Emppu (guitar) is a very good player, but he leaves his ego at the stage door. He plays only what is required for each song. This song is more of a waltz with Celtic folk overtones. This band is actually best experienced live. They have had 3 lead vocalists and most of the Nightwish songs are written for earlier vocalists.
