One of my favorite things about Patsy was that if she liked you, she called you "Hoss." Patsy's early career and first record label really pushed her in the western direction of country and western. After she was able to get out of the contract, she was the first female country singer to adopt glamourous gowns and outfits and she liked furs and sophisticated attire. Patsy was a beautiful lady and a strong one. She learned that as a woman, she needed to make sure she was paid before she took the stage and was quoted as saying, no cash, no Cline. Promoters tried to rip off artists by not paying them after they had performed.

In 1957 Patsy Cline was on a TV network talent search show, Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts, where she performed this song. I believe she won.

Patsy was my Dad's favorite female singer...I remember hearing her voice in my house all the time...his favorite songs of hers were this one and Back in Baby's Arms.

My sister performed as Patsy for a few years and I'll tell you, every audience told stories about how much they had been affected by the music this woman made. When you consider how short a time fate would decide she had for her career, it's amazing the legacy she left that is vibrant sixty years later.

My parents were musicians and had the opportunity to meet Patsy back in the day. They said she was a sweet, humble lady.

Her best friend was Loretta Lynn, a sure enough country girl, that she took under her wing from Loretta’s start…they were strong, tough women working and becoming fabulously successful in a predominantly man’s world! The way I heard it…she didn’t dislike the song “Crazy” as much as she disliked the way Willie sang it…lol…her producer told her to sing it the way she wanted…and as they say “ the rest is history”!!!

The Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville was the Pinnacle of Making t back then. I think that may be where this was recorded? Costumes were an absolute MUST.

Scary that there was virtually no editing available back then. My Dad loved her music, as I do. He had a small record store back in the day before I was born. He also didn't think Elvis would make it LOL...That didn't age well. Peace, Love!!

There's no way not to love Patsy Cline. That was back in the day when singers had to actually have talent. I think she was performing at the Grand Ol' Opry in this video.

My mom adored Patsy Cline. This was her favorite song by her, so it was a song I heard a lot while I was growing up.

I’ve heard from a few sources that Patsy really liked to sing uptempo songs and growl and yodel. There are several or more recordings of her doing Rockabilly music which is a blend of Country with Rock and Roll music. One that she did that comes to mind now is Ain’t No Wheels On This Ship. Oh and another, which has some bits of yodeling, is Lovesick Blues.

Surprising that she didnt like the songs the label asked her to do!!😮 Surprising that Dionne Warwick didnt particularly like the BeeGees song written for her, "Heartbreaker." But I heard it was her biggest hit that year & was her eighth #1 hit. Please react to more BeeGees Nights on Broadway, Love You Inside Out, or Alone for example. ❤❤❤

The Cowboy Junkies did a fantastic blues version of this song in the 90s. They did a lot of good stuff you might look into and were clearly influenced by the greats like Patsy and her peers.

It's more the arrangement heavy on the steel. If you listen to the 1961 version of Walkin After Midnight you'll think more pop again. She loved the song A Poor Man's Roses which was re-recorded in the early 60's also so probably better to listen to the earlier version of Poor Man's too.

Prior to this recording, Don Helms was the steel guitarist for Hank Williams until Hank's tragic death at the age of 29. You should go down the Hank Williams rabbit hole. In my opinion, Hank was the greatest American songwriter to ever live, and this is coming from a guy who loves The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Khalid, Juice WRLD, Dua Lipa, Ella Mai, and many others of every genre in every decade. Patsy was a hardcore country girl and what she liked were the twangy country songs. She had a wonderful singing voice and she did have the voice for popular music. Honestly ha she not capitulated and agreed to sing songs like "Crazy", "She's Got You" or "Walking After Midnight" she never would have achieved the fame she did except within the narrow confines of country music of the time. Interesting to note that none other than Willie Nelson wrote the song "Crazy"

Popv( popular ) music was and is not the be all end all of music . And the Artist needs to express themselves to be fulfilled. It is unfortunate that some of the most intricate, and beautiful music in history fell on deaf ears .
