LOL! I enjoyed your chin on the floor immensely. Welcome to PTX. They will never, ever, let you down. This cover was actually Brian May approved. I admit I cried a little the first time I heard it because it was such an amazing tribute.

Two things about this. First the other commenter was correct. If you see video of them doing this live. Mitch does not need the megaphone to do the guitar solo. Just his voice and a microphone. Second, Brian May of Queen has a link to this cover on his social media site. With a one word caption. Enjoy. That is pretty high praise, if you ask me. I would recommend The Sound Of Silence, probably next. Although, if you just want to blindly pick one. You won't ever be disappointed. I'm glad that the block was released on this. It was truly a GREAT reaction.

Pentatonix They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that. The founding members are:- Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead); Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty") Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”. Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease); Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair), true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese). Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on KZfaq, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings. Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma. While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition. They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his KZfaq videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing". Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours! They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on KZfaq), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building. But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an a cappella group could sell records. Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on KZfaq, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live. Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers. But when their cove r of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label. They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys. Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry. Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) joined them in September 2017. He did only become official when they renewed their RCA contract in February 2018, but he recorded with them in September as a featured artist and went on their Christmas tour as a featured artist, as well. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group. If you think there have been other changes to the line up - look again. This is the ONLY change. Kirstie and Mitch are like chameleons and change looks frequently. After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre. Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/ Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work. Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place. They were nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album Evergreen, but didn't win. Kirstie became a new mum which caused a pause in touring after their Evergreen Christmas tour 2021. Mid March 2023 Kirstie has announced that she is engaged to Ben Hausdorff, their videographer. No dates YET! They have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame installed in February 2023. They are the only a capella group with a star! Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches! Ha Ha!! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used autotune as an effect - so they had to. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the official video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. In the 2022 Christmas album, there are some instruments not featured throughout the album. 3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage.

@@LoccdWolfReacts I was late to the party, too. My husband killed himself last February and I only discovered Pentatonix last September; they've made this most horrific year a little bit easier. I wish I'd found them sooner. I'm glad you're enjoying them. The fans call ourselves pentaholics, and we're always glad to get a new recruit. We like to say that Pentatonix doesn't do covers; they do upgrades. Look on their channel and watch anything that catches your eye - you'll enjoy it. Songs that I particularly recommend are: • "Imagine" (Be sure and catch the official video of this one - the visual effects are important and can't be duplicated on stage.) • "O Come All Ye Faithful" • "The Prayer" • "Seasons of Love" • "Hallelujah" • "Sound of Silence" • "Daft Punk Medley" • "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" • "Carol of the Bells" • "Prayers for this World"

LOL Welcome to the wonderful world of Pentatonix!! They will never cease to blow your mind. You have a decade of music to catch up on. They just got a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. First acapella band to do it. Kevin, the beatboxer, is a human 808. Not only does he beatbox, he also splays the cello. AT THE SAME TIME! It's called celloboxing. And it is incredible. He also sings. Mitch, the guitar soloist, has an insane voice. He doesn't need the megaphone, it's just a prop. He's a true countertenor with a 6+ octave range. A once in a generation voice. They worked on this cover for 5 years. Getting the arrangemnt and vocals just right before they performed it. Brian May from Queen, actually posted this cover to his social media with the caption : Enjoy.

A couple more things that will continue to blow your mind about this group. The three sitting on the back of the sofa went to the same high school in Arlington Texas (home of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers) Kirstie (as in thirsty) and Scott, the two on the end of the ends graduated in 2010. They were best friends and had known each other since they were 8 or 9 years old. Mitch, megaphone man, graduated in 2011. Mitch missed walking across the stage for his diploma on a Saturday to fly to LA to meet his two friends and the other two joining the group. They sang together in the same room for the first time the following day. On Monday they auditioned for The Sing Off. Were accepted and won. During the show those three friends were 19 years old. And, they've been nominated for 4 Grammys. They won the first three! Not a bad song in their catalogue. They've even written their own songs. And wait until Christmas rolls around again. Here's a link to a 50 second cover they teased us with last September. They don't have a full version of this, but it shows what they can do to a classic Christmas song: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iJZ2f5yentLGm40.html

There are 3 A Capella groups that I say are equal and are the best out there. 1) Pentatonix, who won the third season of a singing competition called The Sing Off. 2) Home Free, who won the 4th season of The Sing Off. 3) Voice Play who most members (and they change member often) have backgrounds with Disney so they are very theatrical. All three are absolutely fantastic A Capella groups. I do not favor one of the other. I listen to them all with equal praise.

Kevin and Avi, the two guys seated, were one of the best rhythm sections ever. Kevin's beatboxing is incredible and Avi has one of the best bass voices around and also provides vocal effects when needed. They provide the base that allows Mitch Kirstie and Scott to really demonstrate their amazing singing. This song took a long time to develop because they were so keen to do it justice. There is a behind the scenes video that is fun to watch.

Most of the songs that Pentatonix covers we Pentaholics refer to as upgrades, because they usually improve the song. This might be the only one that is not an upgrade, only because this song is so iconic. It is in my opinion the best cover of this song and it is done completely acapella. Brian May the Queen lead guitarist posted a link to this on his social media accounts to tell his followers to 'Enjoy'. The Grassi Guitar does not require a megaphone. It is just a prop to draw attention to who is making the sound. I heard it done live and it was EPIC! Mitch might be the reincarnation of Freddie Mercury. Freddie died in November 1991 and Mitch was born in July 1992. He can also grow the Freddie mustache. It is so close to matching it is kinda creepy.

First let me say, I have seen you react to some other PTX already, but I have to say this was THE BEST reaction to this song I have seen in a long time. I have seen a bunch of people that even though they were surprised, it was almost like they didn't really care one way or another. You my friend appreciate the original, therefore you appreciate this. Now to add to what Dawn said, when you see the night sky, that is paying homage to Dr. Brian May the astrophysicist, the 4 shooting stars in that sky are the original band members. Then at the end when they are laying on the couch, if you look closely and you know your Queen album covers, that pays homage to another Queen album,, which has the band members in a similar layout, I just never can remember the name of that dang album, even though I can sing every song on it by heart. I heard that Leonard Cohn payed the same praise to PTX for their cover of Hallelujah, which was well deserved (check the view count)

@@LoccdWolfReacts yes that would be the album. I was assuming someone else mentioned that they worked on this on and off for 5 years before they felt comfortable they could do it justice. FYI a "Mitch-slap" is the facial expression a person makes when Mitch blows their mind. (first time you hear his high note, his guitar solo etc.) I've only been listening for 2(1/2) years and I still get Mitch-slapped from time to time. I don't think you ever outgrow it.

Subscribed for more pentatonix. Hope you stick with them. Accapella fans will immediately get u to react to other groups but I'm here for pentatonix. They are absolutely amazing, anything they do is perfection. Even if u don't like the original you will love their immense talent.

You should watch their first Grammy win next. Daft Punk. They have 3 wins. 90s dance medley, Sound of Silence will ruin you for all others, there are so many. Enjoy them. I subscribed. I want to watch you go down the rabbit hole.

WHEN, not if, you do "Daft Punk" set up for a double reaction. People do not believe they can do this sort of thing LIVE. Watch the official video, to set the scene then watch the Private Performance with NO MIC's and recorded on a mobile device. The audio is not brill, but you can see that they CAN and DO do it live!!

Okay, since this is the first time you've heard Pentatonix, these are the singers. I'll identify them by referring to their positions on the couch at the beginning and end of the video. On the back of the couch, from our left to our right: • Kirstin (also known as Kirstie, rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado is the only woman in Pentatonix. Officially she's a mezzo soprano, because that's the range in which she's most comfortable, but her actual range covers everything from alto through coloratura soprano, with some gorgeous whistle notes on top of that. • Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable), contratenor or counter tenor - both terms are correct. Mitch has a range of just over 6 octaves, but is happiest at the upper end of his range. And no, the megaphone had nothing to do with the guitar solos; they sound the same in live performances when it's just Mitch with a microphone. The megaphone happened to be lying around on the set and Mitch thought it would make a cool prop, so it's been confusing people ever since. • Scott Hoying, lyric baritone. Scott's actual range extends from well into the bass range through well into the tenor range. In live performances, whenever the bass has a solo, Scott takes over the bass's harmony line. On the sofa's seats: • Front right, Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan, lyric bass. Avi is an operatically trained basso profundo - his lowest notes have blown out speakers in live performances. But his range extends upward into the low to mid tenor range. Avi is also the only member to have left Pentatonix; he resigned in late 2017, for personal reasons. He has since gone on to have a very successful solo career; you can find his KZfaq channel by searching on "Avi Kaplan." I recommend subscribing. • He isn't in this video, but Avi's replacement is a black guy named Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable). Matt is another lyric bass, and his range seems to be growing as he ages. I believe that it's currently almost identical to Avi's. Matt tends to be a bit quieter than Avi, probably because he doesn't have Avi's operatic training, but he's a very good fit for Pentatonix. His voice is very warm; it reminds me of curling up under a soft warm blanket with a purring cat and some good chocolate. • On the front left of the couch we have Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth), beatboxer extraordinaire. There may be another beatboxer who's better than Kevin, but I've never encountered him or her. Kevin is a genius. He has a degree from Yale's pre-med program. He speaks five languages, including Mandarin. He's classically trained on piano, saxophone, and cello, and has performed at Carnegie Hall twice, once on saxophone and once on cello. He likes to beatbox while playing the cello - his own technique, which he calls "celloboxing." He has perfect pitch. On the rare occasions when he isn't too busy being the entire percussion section to sing, Kevin has a lovely tenor voice, with a beautiful falsetto range, though I've heard one or two songs where he sings in a high baritone range. He's a really nice guy, and when he laughs the whole world seems like a brighter place.

Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Pentatonix!! 😅 You should check out Hallelujah (with Avi, guy with a beard. Or another viewer called him "Jesus in a beanie!") And then also watch The Sound of Silence (with new black guy 😉 Matt) Avi was in the group for about the first 7 years, he is a bass singer. Matt joined the group and he sings bass as well. They are both awesome (as is everyone in Pentatonix) I just mention it because there are so many videos that each of them is in. I was a bit confused about that after watching a few videos myself. But thanks to other viewers comments I figured it out. 😊 And yes they are an acapella group!! Kevin is their amazing beat boxer! Kevin also plays the cello. Occasionally he plays in a video and still beat boxes while playing, he's a beast!! LOL 🥰❤
