Long story short, Pete's granddaughter introduced him to hip hop and he got Bas on board bc there's this old thing in England called "Cockney Rhyming" which goes back to the 1800s. Basically Pete was like "we grew up doing this shit" so he was was A1 since day one. It's coincidence that they rose to prominence around the same time UK Drill did.

@@RandomRetr0 Yeah it was Richardsons. The height of the Krays was a little before their time, but iirc both Pete and Bas had some sort of relationship to the Richardsons. Which wasn't a super unusual thing for young men in London around that time. There's no evidence they were ever particularly high up, but they wouldn't have been people to fuck with either, and likely had pretty good contacts.

Pete and Bas are fire. I love them! They always put a big smile on my face. I lost my grandmother in 2011 at the age of 101 and I miss her dearly. Seniors will always have a special place in my heart. Seeing them having fun gives me life.

This is partly why I love them so much too. I'm 25. Pete and Bas are both older than my grandmother. Seeing these two having this much fun and making a name for themselves in a "young man's world" puts a huge smile on my face. I think Pete's teenage granddaughter introduced him to this genre in the first place. It's like me introducing my grandmother to Metal, and a couple of years later she's in a metal band making good music. I love it. Two guys who are young at heart, are having a ton of fun, and making good music in the process. I'd love the opportunity to just sit down and talk with them about what they're doing. I hope their grandchildren realise just how cool what they're doing really is. Also, my condolences for your late grandmother. I lost my great-grandmother a couple of years ago, also aged 101. She was perfectly lucid until the day she died. I will always cherish the time I spent with her, and all the stories she told me from her life, particularly her childhood and formative adult years. She used to tell me stories about meeting American soldiers when they were stationed near her home during WW2. She'd have been a similar age to what I am now when that happened, about 80 years ago now.

They remind me of early rap in the 80's when kids were rhyming on the street. There'd be breakdancing on one corner, dudes rapping off the cuff on another, and an artist playing steel drums on another. Pete and Bas style makes me think of the style of those days.
