I bought this album in 1973, I was 20! I laid on my bedroom floor and listened to it through my headphones, it's a cliché but it blew my mind!!! A couple of days later I got a couple of friends round, we all laid on the floor and listened to it from start to finish oh I don't know 3-4 times!! Absolutely amazing, mind blowing!! I still occasionally lay on the floor in a darkened room with a glass of something interesting and I'm 20 years old again but unfortunately I am 68!!! How the hell did that happen!!😟😟🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

I'm 64, and in 1975, I used to do the same thing, laid on the floor, closed eyes, and listened the whole album....let the music an lyrics come inside - As I became older, I understood the depth and the truth of the lyrics - What is awesome is not that it was written 50 years ago, but the fact that it was written by very young men 😮

I am 65 now, and have enjoyed the music of Pink Floyd for 47 years. The first Pink Floyd album I ever heard was *_Wish You Were Here_* , in 1975, at a schoolmate's house. I liked it so much (especially *_Shine On You, Crazy Diamond_* ) that I started looking for more Pink Floyd music in record stores. On my first visits to these music stores I discovered albums like *_The Dark Side Of The Moon_* , *_Ummagumma_* , *_A Saucerful of Secrets_* , and *_Obscured By Clouds_* . It took me longer to get their debut album, *_The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn_* , since it had been released, in 1967, that is 8 years before my discovery, and a year before David Gilmour joined the band. I had to get the US and UK version of this album, because some tracks are different. In my musical firmament, full of stars, 2 masterpieces shine like suns: *_Stairway To Heaven_* by Led Zeppelin, and *_Time_* by Pink Floyd.

It's funny you mention the effect of this 48-year old album! I've checked several sites and it still sells eight to ten thousand copies a week!! That I believe is called Longevity!!! Actually don't regret not listening to them when you were growing up at all count yourself lucky instead! Those of us who have been listening to them for years know what you have ahead of you, a nearly bottomless rabbit hole of brilliant music! Really the Mozart / Beethoven of the twentieth century!!!

"Time" is....well...er...timeless! It's about being human and what we all experience. At least those of us who make it long enough to enjoy a long life. Roger wrote this in his late twenties, and it was at that age I too realized how fast life was slipping by. It scared me badly back then!!!

Now you know why Dark Side Of The Moon is such an amazing album. Some incredible facts from Wikipedia, "It has continued to sporadically appear on the Billboard 200 since then, with the total at 958 weeks on the chart as of July 2021. "On a slow week" between 8,000 and 9,000 copies are sold. As of April 2013, the album had sold 9,502,000 copies in the US since 1991 when Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales for Billboard. One in every fourteen people in the US under the age of 50 is estimated to own, or to have owned, a copy. In 2013 industry sources suggested that worldwide sales of The Dark Side of the Moon totaled about 45 million. In 2013, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

Seems to me that anytime one hears a David Gilmour solo, you think "That's the best solo I ever heard! I have seen it said that He plugs his guitar into his soul instead of an amp. It has to be at least partially true to wring that much emotion out of a musical instrument. He is on a level all his own.

The lyrics to this song are absolutely amazing! The text seems to have been written by an old, experienced and lifelong man, but the fantastic thing is that Waters was not even 30 years old at the time of writing. Pink Floyd's lyrics (mostly written by Waters) are really deep and border on philosophy. Combined with magical music, it's just perfect ... And yes - as you say - today's lyrics say nothing to anyone. "We love both" or "I love her but she doesn't me" or other nonsense. Today's music (and lyrics) just slides on the surface and only acts as a backdrop. Gone are the days when true MUSIC was formed and will never return. Too bad it's like that :-(. By the way, the song "Time" is followed by the song "The Great Gig in the Sky". Listen and you will be amazed! Clare Torry (accompanying singer) sang on the recommendation of sound engineer Alan Parsons. It's breathtaking and you will forget it! (Again, I recommend the studio version). And remember: it's never too late to listen to Pink Floyd ...

OMG Clare Torry - I actually had a dream about her - in my ridiculous dream, there were noises behind my walls, which I thought were trapped cats, and when I finally chopped a hole, and looked in, I was astounded and said to my husband "it's not a cat - it's Clare Torry" - I totally woke up laughing.... when I told a friend, he said "that must have been one very melodic cat!" - lol

I'm 67 now. The sun has raced and come up behind me many times now. I am shorter of breath and much closer to death these days no doubt. This is the music I grew up with and enjoyed. Rock and Roll from the 60's and 70's was fantastic. There were many bands that had amazing influence on daily living with dynamic lyrics and guitar play like Floyd such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Rolling Stones and so many others. It was a magical musical time of creativity in music and lyrics which does not exist in todays musical artists and bands. But one thing I am sure of. Because of the infinite number of musical arrangements that can be made from 8 simple notes that we know as the scale, I believe that the greatest music ever composed hasn't even been created yet. I'm sure I will be dead and buried by that time. But I know it will be an amazing adventure for those young people who will be alive at that time. It certainly was for us back then.

I'm with you... 🙌 ...And same age... I'll be 67 in August....And guess what... I've seen progress of that which you just spoke of....One palpable proof of that is Tool....If you're like me, and see music the way i do, and grasp at it as it goes the same way I do, I'm sure you've most likely heard a band like Tool...To me, they're like the Pink Floyd of the 21st Century...If another band like that comes along by the turn on the 22nd century, you're right, we're not gonna get to see that....But I'm happy at least we got to grow up with Pink Floyd, and witnessed the rise of a band like Tool....Life's good..😎

Looking back now, at 70yrs old, I can tell you to enjoy every moment, including the ones that are now getting on your nerves. Like the kids playing up, when you're all going out somewhere. They are all moments that will slip away, and before you realise, the kids have all grown up and left to start their own families. Good review. I'm glad you are really listening to the lyrics.

David Gilmour and that guitar are absolutely mind blowing!! Nick Mason is very much showcased in this song as well. The whole band is just a masterpiece.

Today I stumbled into your channel because I love “anything Pink Floyd” ever since I heard The Dark Side of the Moon back in my college years. I was born and raised in Chile so, at the time, my proficiency in the English language was precarious, to say the least. Thus, it was the unusually soothing music that led me to it. As I learnt the language I started to pay attention to the lyrics. I found out that most of the rock songs I loved were irrelevant, chimerical, some even revolting. Even Prog Rock was, mostly, mythical and ethereal. There’s one thing you said that made me stop what I was doing and write this: “This guy REALLY got it!” I shouted. Pink Floyd’s did lots of skirmishes trying to find its North, so its true journey starts with The Dark Side -a sojourn inside a live man’s troubled mind (you can hear his heartbeat throughout the whole album). Wish you Were Here is a gripe against the music industry (biting the hand that feed them, if you will). Animals is the preamble -a depiction of Society: Sheep (flesh and labor), Pigs (wealth and power), and Dogs (keeping the sheep in line). Then the Epic: The Wall. Depicting the revival of fascism, racism, hate, and everything that we are seeing today, 46 years prior!

I grinned because of how wide your eyes flew open when the song started. I knew how you felt. The first time I listened to this album when I was a kid, I was laying in bed chilling and grooving. When "Time" started and that cacophony came out of my speakers, I bolted out of bed like my ass had been set on fire. It was so jarring and unexpected that it scared the crap out of me. Needless to say, we didn't have reaction-videos back then. Good thing. People would have been laughing their butts off at my reaction. Pink Floyd is not only loved for their music, the story-telling in many of their albums is also a huge part of why they are still so relevant today. When a band becomes loved by multiple generations, that speaks volumes about how powerful their music is.

What memories listening to this song brings back. In the late 70's a friend, Steve Lakebrink, had a New Year's Eve party at his parents' house. We planned to play this song at the stroke of midnight, with all the alarms going off as a way to start the New Year. We were all in our late teens, to early 20's at the time. Now listening to the song and Tom breakdown the lyrics it has a more powerful meaning to me. The passage of time from then to now has been transformational, as the lyrics tell the story. Getting out of college, eventually getting married, having a family, and now with grandchildren. Now I'm 65 and my friend Steve has been gone for about 25 years, leaving this earth much too early, But I am thinking of him now and miss his friendship. 🙏

This song is the very definition of "pathos". I think everybody can remember where they were when they first heard this song. It stops you and enters you like none other. It has the quality of soothing you and yet causing you some discomfort at the same time and the guitar solo is the reflection of the words...beautiful yet with undeniable angst. Also it is a pleasure to realise that the last verse is in fact a reprise of the track called "Breathe" earlier on the album so wonderfullly and almost imperceptably does it segue from one to the other, something it has taken me forty years of listening to the album to realise. Silly me. If you are going to watch a live version don't expect Gilmour to be thrashing around like crazy. It is usually less a visual feast than an aural one. Thank you.

Even the guitar solo slips into old age 3/4 of the way through. BTW on the album it transitions directly into "The Great Gig in the Sky" and if "Time" blew your mind "Great Gig" will literally touch your soul! (Great Gig guest vocals are Clare Torry) Buckle up your seat Dorethy, Kansas is about to go bye bye!!!

This was one of the first albums I ever bought... love Pink Floyd. When I was growing up in the 60's, 70's and 80's we were exposed to all this great music on the radio. Stations back then were not genre driven as much as they are today. The variety of music was amazing. Such good times and great memories.

I graduated High School in '73, and it wasn't long before this band came to town. I spent eight bucks to go see them. The Dark Side concert was amazing. Light effects, sure. And quadraphonic sound. Three hours of mind-numbing and soul searing power. I've never been the same since. I never waste a day. Pink Floyd has a way of getting into the head. They'll take you on a ride. Try the album "Animals." Just lay down and let them carry you away.

At the time the album was released the tune "Money" received the most attention. While it is another great Pink Floyd song, its kinda interesting how "Time" has taken the spotlight over the years.

My favourite PF song and best guitar solo of all time. And I've been listening to millions of hours of music since my mum took me to see ABBA in the mid 70s.

Jeremy ! I am thrilled you are really getting into these guys. Really deep stuff ! I am 70 years old. I was brought up in New York. The 70s were my heyday ! I had the privilege to see these guys live 5 times . . . showcasing new albums, each time. I think you will really get into the ANIMALS album. It is a critique of society and its cruelties. Dogs, Sheep, Pigs are represented ! Sheep are all the followers in life. Dogs are the selfish and defensive business moguls and Pigs are the people in authority . . . governmental and otherwise. DEFINITELY worth a listen !

The thing about Pink Floyd is every week or two my favorite song is different. I’ll hear something in one of their songs that hits me just right and that will be my favorite and so on.

"...the type of person you'll become..." I try to live my life with the thought, "no regrets." If I hadn't done what I'd done then, I wouldn't be who I am today, for better or worse. (better, I hope!!) Pink Floyd didn't speak to you back then, but, now, 50-years on, you find them speaking your language. I've always believed, that just like love, if we keep ourselves open to the possibilities, great music will find us...or, we it.

I particularly appreciated that you took the TIME to focus on the lyrics and their meaning for you. What makes this Pink Floyd album so special is that it revolves around a central theme. This theme could be summed up by: (What drives people crazy). The inexorable passage of TIME is certainly one of the causes of what could drive people crazy. Our inability to control the passage of TIME, can certainly lead us to madness, or at least to (Brain Damage).

I listened to this song a thousand times as a 17-18-20-25-30 year old. I think I heard it for the first at about 45, at which point this masterpiece will punch you in the gut.

Isn’t it a sweet paradox that the song Time is likely the most timeless songs ever!? The song is like a unique marble building composed by the architect Waters, furnished by the master artist Gilmore and decorated by the blacksmiths Mason and Wright. Just an amazing piece of work.

Floyds work is just sonic mastery. Simple yet profound lyrics and music that takes you someplace else. Their music really does need to be listened to as an album, they are like musical theatre. Really, enjoy your journey down the rabbit hole that is Pink Floyd. You looked as though a key had been turned in your head and a light came on. It’s a powerful thing, very humbling and grounding. Good luck with it and I look forward to seeing more Floyd reactions. The album Wish you were here is a must. Look into the backstory before you listen and it will make an awful lot of sense.

This song and the album is an absolute masterpiece. More so this song should relate to everyone , and it’s the most powerful hitting song to me , no song will ever make me think about my life more than this song . It’s made me slow down , appreciate the time with my children and watch them growing up slowly without losing track by working all the time and just putting things off , tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow , and tomorrow never comes , and before you know it years have gone past , and you haven’t done anything you’ve planned …. Running to catch up with the sun , but it’s sinking .. I interpret as , do the things you want today , because later in life you won’t have the time to do it 😢

For me, the lyrics builds perfectly to the line "thought I'd something more to say". At 54yrs old I'm very conscious of what I have and haven't done with that time - other than my kids and grandkids, what is my legacy....

This is one of my favourites, along with "Us and Them". They have so many good ones, each one a masterpiece. Love to watch you reacting to and discovering this legendary band. I was there when they first appeared(and you think you're getting old,ha!) I may be prejudiced, but I think the 60s,70s, and 80s had the best music, especially the 70s.

One of the most profound songs ever written! It means something different to you with every passing year. This song grows in its power and comprehension as you grow older. It blew my mind as a teenager, and totally wrecks me at 60. If you don’t “get it” right now, I deeply suggest that you listen to it again and again until you DO get it. (You’ll thank me when you are 60’sh!)

Pink Floyd in general, and Dark Side of the Moon in particular, are completely timeless. They wrote about topics that speak to the human condition, not just generic feelings or specific events of their time. And what's really fascinating, is not only that it's timeless but it's ageless as well. You don't have to be young to get what they're talking about, you don't have to be older to understand it. As someone who started listening to Floyd in my teens (+30 years ago) and who still listens to them today, I've found that what I get out of their music has changed with my perspective of the world. It's still as deep and mind blowing as it was when I was young, but my life experiences have colored how I perceive the music and meaning so that I see it all in a different light now. Not saying I was wrong about it when I was younger, but rather that as I grew older I began to understand more the nuance and complexity of what they were saying. That, in my opinion, is the hallmark of brilliant music and song writing.

When I listened to this all those years ago I wish I had listened to it more intently, as you get older you realise how much time you wasted doing nothing. The other thing nobody seems to notice is how good the recording is. You feel the music as if it's in your head and you're ears are listening from the outside in. Listen to anything that Alan Parsons engineers they are all like that.
