Well for me personally it's 3rd best after Wish You Were Here and Animals! Nothing beats those two in my book! I think people overrated Dark Side Of The Moon way too much! I'd put that album at 4th place and even then it's a toss up between The Wall for 4th and 5th place respectively, on Fridays i may like Dark Side more on Tuesdays The Wall (Not literally off course, i'm speaking using idiomes!)...But for me Wish You Were Here is clear cut 1st, Animals clear cut 2nd and Divison Bell clear cut 3rd...Echoes from The Meddle is the only song i like from that album, but considering that is my 2nd favourite PF song after Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5), the significance of that album is catapulted sky high because of that right onto the 6th place!

Richard highly underrated for his part but soooo much needed in their sound! Great review! As they say, I may be old but I've seen all the best concerts(many Floyd) and heard all the best bands. So many classic rock greats! They all required talent! (Not like most of the 2 min. garbage they put out for kids today!)

I too Love Richard's compositions. You should give a listen to another Wright song, SEE SAW from the Saucerful of Secrets album. A beautiful song that doesn't get the praise it deserves. Same sorta deal with The Eagles and Don Felder. Henley and Frey didn’t think he deserved as much of the pie as they did because he didn’t write as many songs I guess. Felder kept trying to renegotiate and they got tired of it and fired him. Assholes. Just my biased opinion. 😏

You should do the whole Pulse 1994 earls Court gig, the tour was promoting the Division Bell album (not that PF really need to promote stuff😁). The Division Bell title was suggested to the band by their long term pal, Douglas Adams who created the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. He adjusted the end of one episode to feature the intergalactic rock band 'Disaster Area' since Floyd were starting to break up at the time. The vinyl album version of the show features the line 'do you realise that robot can hum like Pink Floyd' . Adams played guitar with them on stage at one of the Earls Court gigs but not the one on blu-ray. Following Adams untimely death in 2001, Gilmour later played guitar at a memorial service for him.

@@retroreactions.... The episode featured a black, frictionless spaceship designed to plunge into a star as part of Disaster Area's stage show...PF released the album 'Saucerful of Secrets' which features the epic track 'Set the controls for the heart of the sun' which probably inspired it. There's a photo of a slightly nervous Douglas Adams playing guitar on stage with PF in drummer Nick Mason's book 'Inside Out'.

What is neat about this song… Richard was basically pushed out of the band around the time time The Wall came out, Roger Waters didn’t think he was pulling his weight, and Richard was going through some personal stuff. He lost his confidence as a musician for a few years. So this song represents him coming back.
@flubblert

Truth is Mike, he was pushed out with the consent of David Gilmour who concurred he was not pulling his weight. Had more to do with serious personal issues that kept him mentally and physically apart from the band, than it did about his proven talents. It was just a lot of shit he was going through that he had to get over.

👍 The Division Bell is a very dynamic album. For the first couple years after it's released it was used in SoundOff competitions by many. Richard's voice is fitting for the song. There are others such as the summer of '68 off Adam Hart mother. That has always been my go-to album when I want to hear Orchestra. Although I usually listen to just Adam Hart mother Suite Many orchestras have covered that as well. Adam Hart mother was Pink Floyd's first dabble into quadriponics. But it was expensive needed a special stylus that only worked with certain players or special eight track player. And I only ever seen one of those. It was gifted to my sister by her boyfriend. I don't know how much money he had. But he had a hand built tailored made De Tomaso Mangusta. Lol Notice the picture. It's similar to the last ( on other channel) but you are now on my other channel. Notice this morning KZfaq reposted your thumb up and reply. No biggie . I'm still listening when I can once spring starts my life gets hectic. I will add on to this comment though. Obviously we now have multiple channels with the digital age. Our home stereo is a nine-channel Onkyo with Atmos. The entertainment/ theater room is adjacent to the den. Each room has its own four 10" speakers in the ceiling. It runs into a ohm balancing splitter/ mixer With two auxiliary amps powering an additional 22 poke speakers. Plus 2 individually amped 15 in Subs. Most Pink Floyd songs were heard on headphones first or when I really wanted to melt into the music. But today about the only time I listen on headphones is when flying. That's on a DC noise canceling pair with mic's. Lol. it would seem we really don't change as we age. If anything we're more set in our old ways. Of course certain things are now legal today. So I can actually say I may have a Auto bloom approaching record height, as it still stretching even at 52 in high. 😉 She is just 54 days old. And like the garden in 100% organic soil and newts. ✌️ 🤠🏞️🐂

The Division Bell is often overlooked because it’s post Roger Waters….and many fans of Waters find it too quiet perhaps…lacks the “Edge” that Waters brought to the band. Of course, Waters also brought allot of anger and depression to the band….but those emotions sometimes lead to immense creativity. In any case, some of those who are fans of the Meddle to The Wall run, find this later work……uninteresting. I love allot of it….but when I listen to it, I know I’m in for a quieter experience.

Cool reaction, it's a decent Pink Floyd track, but never one of my favourites, even on The Division Bell album. Music is subjective though, but wouldn't make my top 50 Floyd tracks tbh. Still a better track than most bands can hope to produce.

@@retroreactions.... its all about opinions, a lot of Floyd fans will disagree with me. Their catalogue is full of genius level content and everyone has their favourites.

Yes...to think there are people in the world who detest Depeche Mode! But it's always in the ear of the beholder...

It's a good song. But for why it's not reacted to as much, is because the entire album isn't reacted to as much. I enjoy the album, but at times, it really comes across as typical '80's' fare. The album isn't really as timeless, or as good, as their other masterpieces. Really nothing more than that. It's a good album competing with legendary albums.

I don't hate it, but not particularly crazy about this one either. A little too sleepy sounding from my taste. The girl's vocals way more interesting imo.
