This was the first time his mom ever saw him sing live in a performance. She was in the audience that night.Bobby had been sick with a cold and he was very nervous his performance would embarrass him in front of his mom. This was a part of the variety show called The Andy Williams Show. There would have been various actors and singers on.

It's called respect for the artist that's all it is Shon! His mother was in the audience with Bill Medley, the other guy, this was Bobby Hatfield at his all-time best! And the big smile at the end was because he knew he killed it! Great reaction!

Bobby Hatfield owned this song. I fell in with the Righteous Brothers in 1964. I was in high school and just had to go out and buy their vinyl record albums. Pure raw talent and no auto tunes. Both of them had beautiful voices together. RIP Bobby! We miss hearing your beautiful voice. ❤️ ♥️♥️

Audiences were strictly controlled during network TV tapings. They could not heckle the guest. They could not scream and shout. They could not give standing ovations. Those who did were removed from the building by security guards, and the segment was re-taped over again. Exceptions were given for Elvis Presley and The Beatles, because there were too many screaming teenage girls for the production and security staffs to control.

Part of what we'd need to have this level of talent back is to get rid of autotune. Back then you didn't have autotune to cover up the fact that you couldn't sing. If you didn't have the talent you simply didn't make it. Bobby Hatfield did this amazing performance with the tailend of a head cold and nervous because his parents were in the audience.

It was a live performance on singer Andy Williams' tv show in1965. Andy is the one talking with Bobby and Bill. He is an excellent singer, too, who sang pop songs and ballads, mostly. I have a lot of records of Andy's and a lot by the Righteous Brothers. listen to You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling", "Just Once In My Life", and "Rock and Roll Heaven by Bobby and Bill. A good one by Andy Williams is "Can't Get Used To losing You".

This beautiful melody was written 68 years ago for a Prison movie titled "Unchained" (1955). The music was composed by award winning composer Alex North (1910-1991) with Lyrics by Hy Zaret (1907-2007). It was first sung in the film by Afro-American opera singer, theater and film actor Todd Duncan. Ten years later in 1965 on the NBC "Andy Williams Show. Bobby Hatfield and the NBC orchestra gave a performance that was one for the ages. It has been considered as the greatest (live) television performance by a singer and an orchestra in music history. Brilliant!

The late great Bobby Hatfield. His voice is called counter tenor and he had a 5 octave range. Pure high notes, not falsetto. A voice like his doesn't happen very often. His partner, Bill Medley has a rich Baratone voice. Check out Soul and Inspiration, You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling, You'll Never Walk Alone (Ed Sullivan Show video) Rock and Roll Heaven, Summertime ( solo by Bobby)

This was a performance on “The Andy Williams Show“ celebrating Valentines Day in 1965. Bobby Hatfield here sings “Unchained Melody “ solo, he won the coin flip according to Bill Medley, which was a hit song. Back then it was heard on the radio and the 45 rpm record was bought in stores. It was actually the “B” side of the 45 rpm vinyl record. The “A” side was "Hung On You" but DJ’s apparently liked the B side better and played it.

I loved your honest reaction to this beautiful love song. You play this for your girl and she’s gonna melt right into your arms for sure. Bobby’s version is the Gold Standard and no one still surpass him! No screeching. No yammering shouting audience. Just people who actually wanted to hear him sing these lyrics better than anyone else. It’s 2023, and he’s still the BEST!!

Their song "You've Lost that Loving Feeling" was the most radio played song of the 20th century. Also check out "Soul and Inspiration" as well as Bobbie's solo "Summertime". This duo defined what was referred to at the time as "blue eyed soul". And nearly 60 years later, their music still melts the hearts of women.

In the "old days", there were tv shows that featured all sorts of entertainment. We didn't have internet videos, you had to be able to get to a concert to see them. So people like Andy Williams (in this video) had tv shows. They usually spoke to the artist a bit before the artist performed. Andy acted in many comedy movies. He was funny AND he could sing! Every time I've seen the Righteous Brothers speak in such little interviews, they were very funny.

On network variety shows in the late-1940s to the mid-1970s, when the show would have an actor, comedian, or musical guest, the show’s writers would write comedic lines for the guest/guests to read from cue cards or a teleprompter during brief interview segments on the show. Evidently, Bill Medley had trouble reading the cue cards or teleprompter, because his speech patterns did not sound natural. But the audience clearly understood what he was trying to say, and laughed at the punchlines of the jokes.

The feeling you could not describe at the beginning is a feeling of timelessness. Some songs are forever. This is one of those. Blue-eyed soul, as it was called at the time. So many people have covered this song. One that you MUST watch is Elvis' live version. Suggestion: "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye.

Authentic reaction to the most stupendous live performance of all time. This version was better than the studio cut which charted twice. Best 'blue eyed soul' duo ever. Bobby Hatfield had a very rare voice called a countertenor. It's the male equivalent to a high soprano. Almost all men wish this voice throughout history were Italian opera singers, but it's even more rare to have this voice without being castrated, as most male Italian opera singers were centuries ago.
