Back in the early 70s when this first came out it was one of my Daddy's favorite songs. I can remember him singing with the radio in the car and singing it in the house. He was a student preacher at the time. Now he's in his 80s. He retired about 10 years ago and still preached for a few years. He can't now because of his health. Thanks for the great memories.

Simon and Garfunkel have an extensive and varied body of work. They almost remained unknown until a producer, without their knowledge or permission, hired studio musicians and turned their acoustic song "Sounds of Silence" into the new (at the time) folk rock sound. Although they were angry at first they could not argue with success as the song went to the top of the charts. For a time they stayed within the folk rock genre with songs like "Homeward Bound" and "I Am A Rock" but they always maintained their own path thanks to Paul Simon's songwriting ability. This was during the mid 60s when music had taken both an intellectual as well as a psychedelic turn and certain artists like Dylan, Simon, the Beatles, and a few others became the unofficial spokespersons of that generation. By 1966 Simon and Garfunkel were producing less traditional folk rock music and started examining some of the deeper aspects of life with their albums "Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme" and "Bookends." When they performed the soundtrack for the 1967 movie The Graduate (which was one of the first movies where you cheered for the anti hero) they were in the middle of the culture at that time, and their success justified the freedom they had taken to write and perform the songs they wanted to do. By the time Bridge Over Troubled Water was released many things had changed in the culture and they each wanted to pursue solo efforts. They both had successful solo careers but like the Beatles, their solo efforts didn't have the same chemistry as when they worked together and their 1981 reunion concert in Central Park is a testament to that statement. Most people today naturally want to react to the songs that were popular but there are musical gems and treasures in all of their albums and if you want to see what the intellectual side of the 1960s was about, Simon and Garfunkel are right there at the top of the list.

Watching you watch this brought me so much joy I have been in avery dark place For a very long time. God spoke to me one day in prayer and told me to listen to all songs as songs of praise and then this song came on. He later told me that it was his love song to us and the song was downloaded to Paul Simon. There is another video on KZfaq that actually later confirmed this Paul Simon said he did not know where this song came from it just appeared in his head. The song is a channeling it is a love song to us from God the music is also channeled you can literally feel your vibration raise when you listen to it. It was such a pleasure to watch you enjoy it and to see you physically react to the song

I loved watching your reaction. You used words like “gospel”, and “hymn”, and that’s EXACTLY what Paul Simon described the song as being when he wrote it…he originally wrote the song to have only the first two verses, but Simon was convinced by Art Garfunkel and producer Roy Halley to add a third verse, “sail on silver girl…” which Simon wrote at the last minute in the studio just before they recorded it. Watching your reaction in hearing this song for the first time made me feel happy, but also a little jealous, too…because I’d love to be able to hear this song for the first time all over again, to go back to 1970 and experience the same chills and goosebumps I felt when I first heard it, just as you experienced when you heard it for the very first time today. 😉🙏❤️

When Art Garfunkel was born, I believe God breathed on him. A voice like that doesn't just happen. And Paul Simon's poignant lyrics are also special. Their harmonies together are amazing, but I'm sure Paul felt that this song should be sung by Art alone (the third verse aside). I love their more upbeat songs too, such as "Cecelia" off the same album. Their rabbit hole is pretty deep. I love "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)" and "Bookends" especially. Give them a listen sometime.

I was seven years old when my nana was watching this tears in her eyes I remember her telling me that this is what Jesus would do for you If you were in these time, What I'll never forget was the poem she read to me. It was called footprints about a man walking on the beach with the Lord, and he noticed in times of trouble when he would look back. He would only see one set of Footprints He asked the Lord about this and the Lord told him. It is when you see only one set of Footprint. This is When I carried you. This is the very short version of it. And of course, I've butchered it. I recommend all of you to Google this poem called footprints and read the entire poem. It's just beautiful.
