"Walk Like An Egyptian" is such a fun quirky song. This all girl pop rock band had a lot of hits in the 80's such as "Manic Monday", "Hazy Shade Of Winter", "In Your Room", "Eternal Flame", "Following", "Walking Down Your Street", "If She Knew What She Wants" etc.

Don't let this silly song fool you. This is a seriously talented band. These ladies rocked. Check out the official video for Eternal Flame, In You Room and Hazy Shade of Winter. I promise you that you will see them in a completely different light. All four ladies can sing lead, and when it comes to The Bangles, just remember; harmonies for daysss!

Manic Monday was written by Prince for them. Hazy Shade of Winter was a Simon and Garfunkle track. I mean, obviously they were good looking gals, and talented. The lead singer with the eyes going back and forth drove some if us nuts, but it turns out she was using a trick to combat stage fright. The bassist was in the Runaways, so you could check our Cherry Bomb for more of her. MTV, Friday Night Videos...this thing was everywhere, man.

This song was more than just a "song", it was a fad back in the 80's. Everybody knew the song and people loved to dance to it. This was a MUST to play at any party. The lyrics are funny and it has a catchy tune. Even after 40 years, the song never gets old. I can watch the music video and play the song and enjoy it every single time.

This song was one of their two number one hits during their career; the other one was "Eternal Flame." "Manic Monday," written for them by Prince and released in 1986, was also very popular and reached number two on the singles charts. The Bangles, along with The Go-Go's, was one of the most popular all girl bands of the eighties.

This was their biggest hit on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart spending 4 weeks at #1 between December 1986 & January 1987 and wound up as the overall #1 song of 1987. You should listen to their first big hit, "Maniac Monday" (it peaked at #2) but it was written by Prince. Their last #1 hit is the song that basically broke the group up, but it's my favorite, the beautiful ballad "Eternal Flame."

Susanna Hoffs...the girl who sang the last verse...there's probably not a man alive, at that time, who wasn't crushing on her, just from this one music video. I graduated high school in '83... so I was kind of a split between being a 70s kid and an 80s kid. I was a hard rock/heavy metal kid...but I secretly loved the Bangles, The Go-Gos and Bananrama. Mostly because they were all-girl groups. But also because their songs were super catchy. And that look, at the end of this video... Susanna Hoff's eyes... as she's singing "Walk like an Egyptian..." those eyes dug their hooks into boy's and men's hearts like she was on a deep sea fishing expedition, and reeling us in! 😊
