I have tons of channels to watch with my cable package, I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu, but instead I am checking for new vids from you young men. Why? because it is pure joy to watch you view a classic song for the first time and see you appreciate the greatness of a diverse group of music genres. Watching your reactions allows me to relive the first time I heard a great song. Your enthusiasm and keen analysis is greatly appreciated. My suggestion would be to do movie soundtracks, there is some great music in this genre, including Whitney Houston's , I will always love you. My favorite is the soundtrack from Saturday Night Fever. It came out around 1978, and was the largest selling soundtrack until , The Bodyguard soundtrack with Whitney Houston. I am so happy for your success, and I wish you guys the best!

The music I grew up with. I'm glad you've found some. Your heritage young brother. Some of the groups of this time came from the church, but since this music started in the cities these groups started on street corners by people harmonizing. They found each other in class, after class, in barber shops, school gyms, and on weekends. The practiced in hallways, subways stations, and in each others kitchens. They had no money for instruments. Their voices were their instruments. There would be sing-off competitions in every neighborhood and then, neighborhood against neighborhood. Perhaps you could do a Do-Wop Wednesday's and dig further into your heritage.

From the late '50s through the early '70s, some of the very best pop-music came from girl groups - The Chantels being among the tops. Other greats include The Shirelles, The Ronettes, The Marvelettes, and a little bit later, The Supremes. Excellent reaction and recognition of the quality and integrity of the music of that era.

I was 3 years old. My dad was a high school teacher and I went to one of the dances he was chaperoning and saw the teenage girls in their fancy poofy dresses and the boys in their suits and thought they were princesses and princes. I'm sure this was one of the songs they danced to at the high school dance. I had not heard this before that I can remember. Thanks for introducing it to me and reacting! :)

I'm glad you said when the song came out. I think you should always mention the year as part of the appreciation of the music. There's also a real sense of history...the Chantels were one of many "girl groups", many of whom started singing in church. I am really enjoying watching your reactions. As a 70 year old white woman, it's great to see the music I grew up with still being heard.

Also try Martha and the Vandellas from a little later “Dancing in the Street” from 1965 - it was a favorite song to dance to for this almost 75 year old grandma back then. Have you listened to anything by Aretha Franklin? Try “Respect”. If you haven’t seen the movie The Blues Brothers, you really need to watch it. It has some amazing music by Aretha, Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, Cab Calloway . . .

I started loving music when I was tiny. I was 7 when this came out and I had the 45 record. Great voices. The girl groups in the '50s were super classy.

I was 9 when I first heard this fantastic song. My Mom listened to R&B, the girl groups, and early rock 'n roll, so I was exposed early in life and appreciate many types of music. The do wop sound consisted of pure talented voices and harmony. Back in the day you had to be able to SING. At 70 years old, I still listen to music from all decades and genres, and have chosen which songs I want played at my funeral!

Arlene Smith, the lead singer, was 14 or 15 when that song was recorded, and 16 when the single was released. She is believed to be an uncredited co-writer. She did write the first single off the album, "He's Gone". She also performed at Carnegie Hall when she was 12.

Producers like Phil Spector (and his "wall of sound"), Shadow Morton, Holland-Dozier-Holland, and vocal groups like The Shirelles, The Chantels, The Bobettes, The Chiffons, The Ronettes, Bob B. The story of Girl Groups is one of the coolest chapters in music history.

Oh, the memories! Slow summer days at the plunge... a huge California pepper tree providing an umbrella of shade, and that jukebox booming bass as this song begins. Through the heartache and tears of a short summer love gone bad I can still feel the goosebumps.

They were one of the "First" Girlbands from the 1950's. They became a Group as Students at their Catholic High School. Other Girlbands were The Bobbettes (Mr. Lee), about their Jr. High School Principal and The Shirelles (Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow). If you can check out Girl Groups The Story Of A Sound. Another one of their Songs "I Love You So" was featured in Look Who's Talking. Their First Manager was Richard Barrett who would later work with The Three Degrees (When Will I See You Again). He wasn't as big as Berry Gordy (Motown) but he tried. They recorded for The Same Label that would later sign The Bobbettes, Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers, and Little Anthony & The Imperials. Unlike their Male Counterparts who could practice and Sing on Street Corners, they practiced in the Locker Room at their School.

In the 90’s I was in. 50’S and 60’s rock and roll band and this was one of the songs I sang. I always wished I was doing it justice. Because her voice is absolutely beautiful.

Nice to see someone young discovering and appreciating this classic. There's a ton more like it from the late 50's and early 60's. The Chantels led the way for later groups like The Supremes, The Shirelles, The Crystals, The Ronettes, and so many more of those fabulous girl groups.

My husband and I spent this morning listening to our old vinyl records (on hubby’s Bluetooth turntable) and came across music from this era. My oldest sister is 20 years older (yes, same parents and one after me) who told us, you girls have no idea what it’s like to be romanced, to have a guy sing to you outside your window. To take a chance to win you over. It must have felt amazing. I love music from this era.

There will never be another. The Clickettes were good an the Marvelettes.

It’s been so cool to watch you appreciate ALL genres of music. I grew up listening to Pearl Jam, Metallica and today now listen to EVERYTHING depending on my mood. As I’m from Jersey and now teach high school in Delaware, I try to introduce teens to music as much as I can. All that being said, Frankie Valli and the four seasons has a distinct sound. I did NOT grow up listening to them but having come from Jersey and watching the movie “Jersey Boys” I came to appreciate them even more. My father in law passed away 7 years ago and always loved them. His voice is unique! Listen to “big girls don’t cry”, “sherry” “ can’t take my eyes off of you” and he sang the THEME SONG FOR MOVIE, “ Grease”. Their success is obvious! When I hear them I envision a big party with all the cool old cars.... lol. Every song I wanted to give you from greats like Nirvana, Phil Collins, Metallica and Rag n bone you already did. Give em a try! Ohhh and hands down Man in the mirror by the late and great MJ has always moved me too.
