People don't give Egyptian Lover enough credit. I was around when his tracks were poppin'...and his stuff was top rankin! Anytime an Egyptian lover tune got played by the DJ, the dance floor got crowded. "I Need A Freak!"....hell yeah!

Egyptian lover was the first big quote unquote rapper and producer coming out of the West Coast to get respect and play in New York in 1984 and 1985 before groups like NWA were even formed, and he actually came up and started with Ice-T in the early '80s if you watch the West Coast hip hop documentary from 1983 breakin and enterin him and Ice-T are in it together.

This sounded so futuristic in 1984. I loved it! Today I like it for the nostalgia it brings but that's it. It doesn't excite me like it used to.

Electro was so new and fresh back in those days that playing a song like that in a club would cause the floor to pack. If someone played that in the street people would stop to ask what was that because it was so different! Today electronic music has evolved so much and is so prevalent that a track like this would not have the same effect for sure.

I was in 6th grade/Jr high when he was hot. Egyptian Lover DOMINATED the skating rink soundtrack for a few years. The older kids were dancing to his stuff at the late nite dance clubs.

I’m from a small market town in the north of England and based on geography and there was not a reason to relocate it was a 99.9% white town, myself included. I was a teenager when the Street Sounds Electro albums were being periodically released and the Egyptian Lover, Captain Rock, World klass, Mantronix etc were legends amongst my age group. I still listen to them now and can’t imagine when I’ll stop.

Classic Hip Hop/Electro cut. I always felt that songs like this gave rise to NewCleus. At the time this song came out hip-hop was was still in its infancy with the masses. I'm not an expert but with it coming on the scene it was being tinkered with in quite a few genres. Obviously the street dance/disco/club scene tried adopting it and this is sorta what you hear with this song. This electro-style and the heavy use of the DJ/scratching is not in current rap. Rap today is all about the producer and the MC after that.

OG Breaker from the 80s and this was HUGE when it came out! Had the record and tape for my Panasonic boom Box! God those were the best years! I was 12 in81 , started skipping school and hanging with the homies on the corner!

Nice artifact and necessary for the History of Hip Hop and electro funk 🔥 Has the Africa Bambataa Kraftwerk vibes going. Definitely dated and very early 80s. Robotic dancing to the slow steady beat. I believe there are better remixes out there.

@@tafkap01 Electronic isn't my favorite either, especially when there is more effects than song. Reminds me of movies that are all effects and no story. That being said I very much respect Kraftwerk. I am in awe of how ahead of their time they were with that genre. Anybody can copy but Kraftwerk were true innovators.

wrong this was not a group and also dr dre was not apart of this he was with world class wrecking cru, now there is unclejamms army but again dre was not apart of that group only egypt and some others.
